Club Spundae in LA has been RAIDED by the DEA & ABC!!!!

(Here is an email I wrote to many of my friends here in LA. I figured you all might want to know about it as well....)

Hey,

Just wanted to bring this to your attention. Apparently on Friday night, club 1015 (Spundae in SF) was raided by the DEA and ABC under the umbrella of "Operation X-Out", an attempt to rid California nightclubs of Ecstasy use/sales. This happened at Spundae @ Circus in L.A. on Saturday night as well, where allegedly 10,000 pills were confiscated and 25 ppl, including 6 Circus employees, were arrested. The following links provide more detail:

www.abclocal.go.com/kabc/news/120902_nw_club_raid.html

www.cnn.com/2002/US/West/11/22/club.drugs.ap/index.html

http://pub80.ezboard.com/fspundae44...icID=6287.topic (this one is from the Spundae messageboard)

What the govn't will now attempt to do is get the liquor license revoked for every "rave nightclub", basically shutting the venue down. No alcohol sales = no customers = no profits. This is probably going to end up being very detrimental to our scene, many if not most of the clubs we attend weekly are going to face the same investigations, if they haven't already. The stereotype of "techno music" and "techno clubs" and "raves" are all being used against us by the govn't, and with great effect. I know that there are huge drug sales & consumption at these clubs, no one can deny or refute that. And sadly this is probably what will be the eventual end of this scene, at least for clubbing. However, Gene La Pietra, owner of Circus & Arena clubs, will be making a statement in defense of his clubs this afternoon. Check tonite's local news broadcast, I'm sure the media will put some horrible spin on everything and make it even worse than what it already is.

Anyways, just wanted to give you a heads up.

-Mark

If I lived close to the border I'd go to Canada all the time. This whole Anti-"Rave" shit is out of control. The U.S. government can go fuck itself. I'm tired of all these damn old dying bastards running this country. This country was founded on the principal of giving people more rights, and all the government does now is take our rights away. If I wanna go fuck my own life up by taking drugs then I should have every right to do so, as long as I'm not hurting anyone else. For this country to allow, and make money from, alcohol and tobacco, and yet outlaw marijuana is the biggest piece of hypocritical bullshit I've ever heard of. I don't even take drugs, but in the eyes of my government the music I listen to is linked to certain substances, so now I shouldn't be able to go out and enjoy the music I love. Fuck that. Rant over.

i dont think there areeven 10,000 pills in crasher

Posted by UWM on Dec-09-2002 21:58:

10,000 sounds pretty absurd to me. Assuming this club holds 3,000 people, an average every person there has over 3 pills? Hmmm ...

Posted by TranceLuver4evr on Dec-09-2002 22:04:

I saw that on the newspaper today..........

there is no way 10,000 pills will get confiscated at a club..........unless there is a drug deal going on inside the club when DEA raided the place!!

right on!
the government knows tobacco kills many people each year, but they still let it go, becasue it makes lot of money and i guess they say "do what you want to do to yourself".
alcohol has so many drunk driving accidents and so much violence, i don't know why it is still legal, no one follows the "legal" point of intoxication anyways. Why they dont legalize marijuana, i have no idea, that would be a huge cash crop for the government.

That really sucks. Right now there is a bill before Congress called R.A.V.E. (Reducing Americans Vulnerability to Ecstacy), which if passed will pretty much let the gov't. shut down any club it wants and fine the owners up to $500,000. All that they will have to do is suspect that there are drugs being taken at any club and that will allow them to shut it down. With the Republicians now in control, this is VERY bad news.

You got a great attitude, especially considering you don't even do drugs. I agree with you 100%

This is the thing that gets to me about Ameriacan politics. The government doesn't give two shits about the people. It just gets worse and worse to. The harmful use of drugs is on the rise and they make it worse by creating things tike the RAVE act. Or using the old Crack House Act from the 80s to bust clubs who are providing safe settings for people doing E. I was so pissed off to read about how the DEA and Police are using things like having free access to water, chill out rooms and educational info about drugs availble at clubs as a sign of drug use. This means that people wont get these things cause clubs dont want to get charged with running a crack house. This can only do one thing cause harm to people.
How many people must be thrown in jail or die before America will change its policys on drugs.
Fucking makes me sick.
Worst of all it spills over to us in Canada. The only reason marijuana is illegal here is cause of the states.
When that rupublican **** Richard Nixon diclared War On Drugs he unleashed a terrible plague on the world.
I just hope that things will change before they get any worse.

why doesn't all the well known djs/producers in the states.....and those who support the states scene (european djs/producers) get together and stop this bullshit. if all of the big names, with huge capitol, got together.....they could put an end to all this crap. our scene is falling apart. i hate this fuckin country when it comes to laws regarding R.A.V.E. and regarding pot. the one thing i want before i die is to see pot legalized (at least decriminalized) and for our fuckin country to put a tax on it just like with cigarettes and alcohol. oh my god, i cannot even write the disgust i am feeling right now.
