Question What do others think of Trance?

"i don't know about that there is a very thin line between trance and cheese as there are so bad"

"wake up to the real world and listen to some hip hop man thats where it's at not this whistle out lets sing about euporia and o i feel so good (even though i've just had seven pills for breakfast) yehyeh"

This is the rubbish that spouted from someone I know on the subject of Trance... Which (unsurprisingly) really pissed me off.

So go and ask someone now... Someone who is not already a trance addict... Ask them "What is Trance?"

THE WORLD MUST BE EDUCATED!!!

"What is Trance?"

PERSON ASKED: Work Colleague (Old Guy)
MUSIC PREFERANCES: Probably none at all...
ANSWER: "What is what...? I don't know..."
ANALYSIS: Old people must be informed!

PERSON ASKED: Sister
MUSIC PREFERANCES: Likes "DJ Sammy - Heaven"
ANSWER: "It's music! You can turn any Dance song into a Trance song by slowing it down and adding more melody..."
ANALYSIS: Complete clown. "slowing it down"?! What's that all about?!

PERSON ASKED: Mother
MUSIC PREFERANCES: Rolling Stones, Vincent De Moor and Barbers Adagio for Strings
ANSWER: "It's like dance music but better..."
ANALYSIS: Partial credit... Thanks mum!

I haven't had my mom listen to it yet, that would be interesting. Though you never know, she could like some of it? And dad....well...I'm not even going to try. Most other people I know won't listen to anything good. Just cheese. lol. Not suprising

Go and ask one of them "What is Trance?"... Do they know what it is?

And if not... WHY NOT!!!

Posted by Endlesswave on Dec-10-2002 19:04:

lol My mom sometimes thinks like that as well Fundamental. She likes PvD - Face to Face (Piano Mix) or similar tracks. My dad on the other hand kind of pokes fun at me because of it. I don't know if he likes it or dislikes it. My brother on the other hand...is hopeless. He thinks it's "noise" and not real music. The thing is he listens to the Dj Sammy style crap (and then some worse shit I used to listen to in highschool bu grew out of it long ago). However most people I talk to (friends/family/co-workers) I'm getting into trance and they love it.

"rap is crap... its just talking over a beat...."
"rock music is just screaming over loud guitars...."

people are just as ignorant of our genre as we are of theirs.... if we want others to be educated and respectful of trance, then we gotta stop all the hating and ignorance right here first...

anyways, in respose to the actual question, most of my friend's know diddly about trance... same old stereotypes:

its just same beat over and over
music for druggies
no melody

i give them a song and they can't even get through the intro beats without blowing the whole song off as sucky..

Electronica music is the new age of music , trance is a form of energy as you all may know, trance was the first music ever to be played on this earth , and i aint talkin bout tiesto , belive it or not african tribes use to play trance but in a different forms , then the guitar and other instruments evolved there has been many era's of music , 60's , 70's and 80's , what u need to understand is that music like the beatles and elvis and all that other music was mostly the only music around then and if you didn't like it then i guess you wernt 'cool' , you can't change peoples opinions on music and you cant force ppl to like whatever type of music , i reckon if everyone liked trance then it would die out , that speciality of only a particular group who like it , makes it more special. Music is a community of people enjoying the same vibe, personally i like trance music as i can relate to it with my feelings and emotions anytime of the night and day , also it is easy to get hold of and there is so much variety , theres no competition like number 1 and crap. Let there br

Posted by Nrg2Nfinit on Dec-11-2002 13:53:

Hehe i guess i should give my dad more credit then

yeah i knew he is right.. i guess if you get too fucked up @ a party it could feel like a tribal healing lol

Posted by FuzzyGreen on Dec-11-2002 17:42:

Carl Cox can spin tribal healing stuff. Have any of you guys ever played in a drum circle? If you get a bunch of friends together, each with their own drums (like those cheap bongo drums, shakers, home-maid drums, someone with a bass drum) you can have one hell of a party. Make sure that you only invite people with good rhythem. Add a drum machine for more of a trance like experience...

drugs optional

Sorry for the off topic...

some people just say it is repetative, they say it sucks, they say how can you listen to music with no words, all this mumbo jumbo bull shit, anways, it doesnt really get to me anymore, since i have heard it so much and for so long, and people dont really say it anymore, except when my friends are in my car, i think i should take the antenna off my car, that way, there is no way to listen to anything but trance, since i only listne to cds. although i really hate when people say it isnt music. its like i say nothing to put their music down, and they have to say that to me. anyways, some people are ignorant, and they think they are funny, haha

LOL that happens to me constantly. At least a few times. It is very funny. I usually start them off with some slower stuff though. More mellow uplifting classic tunage, then progress from there to whatever I think they might like from that.

true say....

mainstream music that is considered cool in north america is punk and hiphop and pop

while in europe its dance, indy pop and decent pop

whilst in asia, mainstrem is based on cultrurally driven pop (example, in India its the Hindi Music), and pop from N America and Europe

this is my observatoin only

Posted by butterfly on Mar-25-2003 15:50:

this is what i think of trance:

it is a gateway genre for electronic music. it is the most complimented by drugs than than the other genres, mostly e. it is musically not very stimulating and the bass has no intracicy. but it is pretty to listen to and there are some extremely talented trance djs out there.
