Do you have the guts to drop the cued track live?
*edit*
DOWNLOAD SAMPLE
download this sample to hear what i mean. the first song i mixed in live, the second, i dropped at the right time. personally, i like the second one better, but if i could get the first one perfect, i think it sounds awesome!

Do you ever cue the incoming song, with the crossfader in the middle? by this i mean slide it back and forth on the first beat while the other track is playing, letting the crowd hear you cue?
or even just cue it in the headphones, but when you actually let go, slide the crossfader over before you let that very FIRST beat sound to the crowd, or do you make sure to get it lined up properly first?
in both cases you have already beatmatched the record and started it over obviously.
anyway, just wondering if any of you did this. I don't have the guts to do it in front of people, i'm always afraid that i will push it too hard or too soft and make an embarrasing train wreck. Or worse, have the needle skip in my excited cueing and again screw up the mix.
I have done it at home though, and i usually get pretty decent results, but invariably when i drop that first beat, i need to make a small correction, it's never perfect. I can usually get it back in in less than 4 beats, but still it sounds messed for a few seconds.
the alternative is to cue it in your headphones, get it right, then mix it in, but then you've already missed that critical first beat which can sound so good if you do it right. you usually have to wait at least 32 or 64 beats before bringing it in if you use this method, and that sometimes sucks, especially when you are listening to it in your headphones all matched and wishing the crowd could hear.
i will post a sample in a little bit, i just wanted to know what your guys thoughts on this are?
if anyone has any good examples of this, it'd be great if you could post links to them too!
I never do that, I make sure the beats are in line and then bring in the incoming track, otherwise, nomatter how perfect you are there is the posibility of screwing up and making a horrible sound
i do this sometimes... i've got good at dropping stuff on the beats, so I can usually pull it off.
what I usually do... is wait for a breakdown... waaapssssssh breakdown bassbeats dissappear.. wait 8 beats. breakdown goes a little deeper.. scratch the first beat of another record every other beat 4 times (over 8 beats of the other track) and then let it go. I usually scratch into a breakbeat because it's harder to tell if it's a little off.. then fade into the other track when the breaks go away and 4/4 comes back (i have alot of tracks that are mostly 4/4, but have breakbeats too)
I only do this live, just to f**k with the crowd. it works.
If you really want that first beat and you don't want wait 32 beats to get that "awsome" sound that your talking about, why don't you drop it 8 or 4 beats before line-up quickly and bring it in for the "awsome" beat. That will be your only option i guess.

that would work... for trance
I don't know it;s kinda wierd to do it with trance it gets rid of the smooth flow of trance, if you know what im talking about.
but prolly with like hard house it will be great ill try that.

yeah.. or there is another option.
you can start it 4 beats early, but then you can't be using the "first" beat, you need to be using 4 beats ahead of the first beat.
unfortunately, if it's truly the first beat on a record, you don't have that. but, what you can do is find another "first beat", like at the beginning of a 64 beat phrase, and then rewind 4 beats.
then you have to drop it four beats early too. but that's a lot of fucking around.

Hi, u can do it, but will be a risk if u are doing it LIVE.
I can do that but with CD PLayer since is more precise at the cue time, but not with Vinyl.
I think the first mix wouldve sounded better than the second
if the beats were matched better.
Those Tracks are wicked bro!!
Can you plz post a tracklisting?
The way u did this is not bad but ya i always pull this kinda stuff off.

i do this alot....when done well, and the beat is dropped on time it sound good. if i fuck up, and drop the beat late/early, it will sound messed up as i franticly try and correct it, or slam the croffcader over, so i can try and re-cue the cued track
it works for hard house
