Purchasing softSynths

just a quick question on how everyone gets their softsynths?
Not many are freeware and its seems that most of the half decent ones are fairly steep. I'm a newbie btw so any suggestions of which programs to start out with would be great!

p.s. I did do a search on this subject but couldnt really come up with anything?

ok, there are lots of freeware VST's out there, a lot of people just use the freeware vst's.

www.kvr-vst has a MASSIVE archive of free instruments. There are also loads of free Vst, au, DXI etc effects out there.

Some good freeware VSt's that i use include synth one (a free nordlead ), triangle 2, triangle one, cheese machine etc, i have about 90 free vst and DXI synths.

hmm, hosts/programs. If you are a beginner, i would reccomend that you get your hands on fruity loops or reason. Both are great programs, a lot of people may say " go get cubase, it's what all the pro's use". Although cubase is a fantastic prog (so are logic, sonar etc), you don't need it to make good music. Some artists that use fruity loops/reason include cosmicman (yes, cosmicman), ppk, and loads more. If you learn them well, they are both powerful tools. for an example of how good fruityloops can be: www.mp3.com/lightworks , get "heart and soul", an amazing track.

Personally i prefer fruity loops, reason is too restrictive for me, without the DXI and VST plugin support.

anyhow, it really depends on the artist, you could have a massive studio, and not produce anything good, it really depends on how far you are willing to go, and if you have any talent .

Also, go and grab some free samples, there are loads of great sites out there.

Hope that helped :P

use reason with cubase in rewire. you can load VST in CUBASE...

Cheers, just what i need to get me going

yeah, i know you can rewire it, but i dont like the way reaosn goes about it, they only reason they don't support such basic/popular/common plugins like VST, DXI etc.... is so they can get people to buy refills/upgrades. They do it for the money. It is also overpriced in my opinion. Fruity offers much better value for money.

reason is a good product, and it all comes down to personal opinion....

i dissagree about that. yeah it's your personal choice what you use and i sure don't want to fight about reason or fruity. i use both

maybe there is some truth that they want people to buy refills and stuff but the problem about vsts is that there are many unstable ones out there. why to bother and ruin the stability of the program if you can rewire it (if you want)...

and it is definately not overpriced. 400$ is a small price for what you get.

all above statements are IMHO.

cheers
