-- More things to come
More things to come *update*
Well, seeing as how the production ftp is a big sucess it might be time to step it up to the next level
I'm thinking of building a website which will showcase amature productions and dj's.
It'll have a members section for registered people to upload their stuff etc and track how other people are doing. Showing when producers have uploaded more stuff, progress on traks etc. Of course the finished products will be publicly available on the site, and the patches, samples, loops etc will still be private for registered members.
I'd like feedback on what type of features to have, general interest etc. Of course, I'm not sure exactly how i'm going to code all this, but it's a challenge i'm looking forward to. This of course won't just be for trance addcits, but for anyone activly pursuing trance related production. All membership applicants will still be screened to make sure they arn't applying to mooch and that they actually have stuff to contribute.
Only problem I forsee is BANDWIDTH. I've just got cable at home with a capped upload stream of like 35k/sec which is NOT enough for an endevor like this. Of course if the site is popular I could see about advertising to cover costs, feedback on this would also be great.
Put your thinking caps on!

Well, during beta stages of the site I don't need lots of bandwidth, I can gague useage by having a test base from people at tranceaddict or whatever. MP3.com is great, but I want to have a smaller more refined site, centering around trance. Dj sets, tracklisting, bio's are all musts as well as production stuff, production will require more work and features though.
Legality issues are not that difficult, there would be a waiver everytime you go to upload something which would state something along the lines of: by uploading this material you certify that it has been created by you and you are the owner blah blah. As well as a statement saying that I am meerly providing a service and am not responsible for people's uploads.
I could see having a small fee of like 5$ per song uploaded, or maybe a bandwidth fee of say, .10 per 5megs transfered. Once everything is setup I can just go through the logs and see what gets used most.
Starting this up is a priority for me, i'm going to school for network design and all that jazz so it gives me a chance to get lots of experiance writting my own CGI/Perl scripts and running web/ftp/email servers. I'm also a DJ and starting into production, and I know that unless you "know the right people" it's very hard to get your shit out, so having more avenues like this is benifitial.
Main help I'd be looking for is the front end stuff, I love running servers and doing backend work but designing a website and making graphics that look good isn't my strong point
I'd be happy to do some front end work. With more than one person working on stuff, there is going to be a lot of planning to do, keep in mind.
About the legal stuff, I'd still check with a lawyer (if you happen to know one...
) about it, because if the site becomes "real," you want to make sure the legal stuff won't bite you in the ass.
I do know a lawyer actually, and rest assured when the site is nearing final stages of completion i'll give him the run down and find out what issues need to be addressed.

I sent you an email asking what you wanted for a username and password, I still didn't get a reply. So again, send me (email or pm) a username and password that you'd like and i'll set it up.
First it was couple of people in a Forum making tracks at home
Than they opened a special FTP for samples and patches
Than the FTP turns to be a Top Trance production site
Than They make their own label: TA,
and than Tieasto & AvB & everybody join TA label
and we are all happy
I would love to help out in any way I can
I think it sound's like a good idea that for once hasn't been taken already...or well...we have mp3.com but they are aiming at all genres.....not just trance
I think it can be successful if you aim at a single genre like trance fr example

about the payment I don't really know....maybe it should be free to have one song uploaded but if you want to upload more than one song you could take a fee
I feel that as a producer that hasn't reached the state where you can make money on it's hard to get up with the money to pay for every song that I wan't to upload
so you can have the system where you can have one song uploaded at once for free...and then it would be alowed to switch song as much as you like so you always can have your newest song uploaded...then if you wan't more than one you have to pay...say 5$ per song or something like that
hope you get what I mean with this

I really like the idea here
I have an idea as well. On an old site I used to upload my tracks (www.traxinspace.com, it's dead now) there was a reviewer system, where you had a team of reviewers that scored the tunes on different criterias. The smart thing was that artists who also reviewed tracks got faster reviews on their own tunes. This of course made a lot of people sign up for reviewing. If this works it becomes a win situation for everybody. Of course, there should be some people overseeing this, so people get and give good reviews. Just a thought
Peace
Update - So i've been working on this for a while and some things are starting to take shape! I've got the basic layout of the site done using a really really nice php system which didn't require to much work hehe. It uses a database for a backend so everything is very organized. At the moment i'm thinking about how to impliment uploading and catagorizing etc.
One thing though, I need a name for the site! Once I get a domain registered i'll setup the email server and forward traffic to my server. Thinking up names is not my strongpoint heh.
