-- can you have "good taste" and still like cheese?

Posted by patticus on May-07-2001 23:28:

just thought about this.
im sure a lot of you have good taste, but still like ian van dahl. (gross)

What's cheese is just someones opinion, like whatever you like and don't be ashamed of it. If you like Vengaboys and Alice Dee jay then be proud of it, if you like Backstreet boys and N sync, be proud of it.....don't let other tell you what you will like, your a individual and a thinking human being, so you can decide for yourself ......

Wow has anyone quoted themself...

Good taste is subjective... I consider some people as having good taste in music, but their taste pretty much is the same as mine... but u can't dissmiss other peepz...

Then again there's music that a lot of people can like, does that mean it's good, think of Pop music...

I dunno at the end u know what u like like I say, and isn't that all that's important, to listen to music YOU enjoy...

I hope I'm not beeing hypocrytical because there is times I think people are retarted for liking what they like, but I respect those who have their own opinion and stick to it the most...

latez...

well in my opinion, it all depends of what ppl think is cheese and what ppl dont...

Posted by Dj Furee on May-07-2001 23:40:

err mistake posting

but I'll put it to good use and say I totally agree with ckerr... sorry I read what u wrote after what I wrote, u totally make sense...

eh? liking stuff that is cheese doesn't mean you don't have good taste...and what yevat said is pretty true, if the majority of listeners feel that a tune is cheese, then it's labelled as such. don't mean you have bad taste though. it's what you like and that's all the matters really. i mean we all like certain choose me thinks that might sound cheesy...heh, except maybe twilog and paul wilson. lol.

It all depends, your ears progress and listen for new sounds. Sometimes you get sick of the same type of sound so you look for new sounds/style.

What some consider cheese, other's may not so there is not really any fine line.

Don't believe the hype, stick to what you like.

You will eventually get tired of the cheese tunes and look/listen for new sounds, depending on how hard core of a tranceaddict you are.

Listen to what you like,Whatever it maybe. The only thing that's important is if the tune can ROCK THE DANCEFLOOR, NO IF'S,AND'S OR BUT'S ABOUT IT.

I also think it's depend on each person...
BTW sometimes the cheese and simple are those
with the most emotion in them...

I say absolutely. I happen to love Zombie Nation, Alice DeeJay, and Darude Sandstorm. Many(including myself) consider these songs cheese. But they're still sweet.

Posted by krusader on May-08-2001 03:36:

sure you can like cheese and still have good taste

ive been downloading an average of 1gb/day of trance at work which includes all the recommendations of ta's users and other similar sites... tiesto, pvd, mauro picotto... but since my car only has a radio right now (cd player soon!) and philly doesnt give us jack shit for a decent radio station i gotta listen to whatever they got... and you better believe that when i hear a tune like zombie nation or even mel-c ill pump that shit just because its the closest ive got right now

so all i've gotta say is listen to what you like... because if you cant be an individual in this world... then you arent worth shit

Now that's something i can't agree with.. Of course it's good if a tune can rock the dancefloor, but a tune that don't can be just as good..

Something like Sarah McLachlan - Sweet Surrender (Tiesto Mix) would probably not tear the dancefloor appart, but still i find it a beautiful track
Just my two cents..

Peace

Idea

I totally agree with Fatboy/omh's
It's up to each one's attitude!

Posted by djVersus on May-08-2001 15:22:

I've said it once and I'll say it again.

"You will eventually look for new sounds/material as your ears progress's. It all depends on how hardcore of a tranceaddict you are".

trust me, one day you will find yourself enjoying a tune you normally wouldn't enjoy a year ago.

which is a good thing.

Smoking ..umm..something

Cheese is definately subjective. Cheese is un orginal & has mass appeal. It's easy to listen to & ingest. Ppl that are new to scene...eat that shit up & love it. It's not their fault, they don't know better.

Personally, there's some cheese I don't mind! 99% of bootlegs are cheesy. When I hear the likes of Darude, Sash!, ATB, York on the radio I can listen to them without finding them too annoying.

What I can't stand is when stuff goes over the borderline of just cheese like Fragma "Everytime You Need Me", when the word "cheese" is used to describe the artists mentioned earlier I don't know how to describe piles of shit like this! If somebody likes this I lose A LOT of respect for their taste and that's how I always end up commenting on it when somebody mentions it! As far as I'm concerened it's the worst dance record on earth! However you will still find some cheesy records in my collection!

I also find commercial hardhouse completely unbearable!
