TOTAs becomeing a legend??
hmmmm...was surfing the tiesto forums this morn when....
http://www.tiesto.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=320
ya...theres a point there too...we ARE a bit too demanding...
it pretty much sums up what I've been saying about TOTA's for a long tme. We ARE way tooo demanding and just too hard to please here in Toronto. Djs can have the exact same performance in many other cities and get glowing reviews but TOTA's will always find something negative to say.
toronto is notorious for being snobby in general. its a shame...
legend? ..whatever the fuck ... SPOILED! TOTAs are SPOILED! .. too used to seeing big Djs every month, that we've become too picky!

, just as "spoiled" is. Its getting out of control. First each event is OVER hyped, than when everybody comes back its like "That DJ is pure shit"
keep it up ya'll ....we're mostly happy with the performances we get also might be becoz we get more like 6 or 7 or even 8 hour sets ...MUWAHAHHAAAAAAAA

i hate it when u guys do that
TO is snobby to the max. Every msg board that has a huge TO population .... tend to pick out the flaws in every dj set that was spun here. Once ppl get home ... and the set was not spun perfectly ... the bashing starts. (PureRave,TBK,TA TJ.com)
1) We are spolied but, remember we were one of the top scenes in North America back in the days. I've met ppl that drove from Cali and even Florida just to hit our big parties in 98-99.
2) Since our scene has been around for so long and we've seen many headliners over and over again ... why can't we be snobby ? It's a good thing IMO ... forces them to play well when they come here.
But, from what I heard TWILO in NYC was the toughest crowd ... they boooed many premire djs while they were spinning their sets.
i don't think that TOTA's are snobby, well not everyone. I just think that over time the standards here have been raised. Cause a lot of people can compare a performance of one DJ to another with a bigger background knowledge. Again this is just an opion, and I am sure not everyone agrees with it.

i'm a kwta, so i don't fall into this crowd
when i get hyped for something, it's always better than i hoped , ie ferry and talla.
p.s. please don't flame me oh TOTA elite!

How can you guys say that ToTA's are snobs. I feel offended. You, out of all people, should know not to generalize.
I've only heard a few people be so demanding, what about the other fifty-plus ToTAs who are not. Its extremely easy to express your opinion on these forums. You can start a flame thread, and literaly every TA who logs in will see it on the top of the chart. So when other people visit all they see is flaming threads. But its actually the few, ten to twenty, people who just keep on amplifying their flaming. There are plenty of other people who found, for example Tiesto's set, amazing.
You can't possibly say we are demanding. I think there are many ToTA's on this forum, which gives rise to more "snobs" that lower the ToTA reputation.
Which personally repulses me...

I think the standards of some of the people here are way too high. They've seen videos from european parties and they expect to be the same here. It's impossible. Enjoy what you have, don't take it for granted! Consider yourself lucky that you live in Toronto, and not where you originally come from(doesn't apply to Canadians), cause you would probably never see those DJs live there!
The purpose of a DJ is to entertain the masses, not 5 individuals who have listened and analyzed all his sets. So if you are one of those 5 individuals, you can stop coming to parties, cause you'll never have fun!

| Originally posted by Heatscore I totally agree. We could also be somewhere where electronic music isn't popular or even present. People should enjoy what we have in Toronto instead of picking a djs set apart or complaining about something you have no control over. Some people don't get the big picture... |

j/k
Snobiness comes from high expectations, which you get from having a long-established scene. It seems like Toronto (and Canada in general) was one of the earlier scenes to develop and perhaps a lot of the burnouts are getting bitter now, or something. The UK scene has suffered quite a bit from snobbery (in London especially) where there was too much emphasis on the technicallity of the music versus the enjoyment of people at the night. This lead to the explosion of Prog & Tribal : but IMO there's a much more cautious and self-conscious vibe at these nights. Perhaps you guys are experiencing your mini-trance backlash which we had in the UK a couple of years back. Thankfully things are returnin to normal and 'trance' is less of a dirty word nowadays.
Just go out and have fun. Dance, drink, take drugs, track-spot...whatever. Just have a good time & don't feel disappointed when Tijs doesn't play Track#13 which you ID'd from his TE set from 1999. If the tunes aren't your thing then chat w/ your friends or somethin....but dont get yourselves a reputation for having a 'difficult' crowd as I know Toronto is a favourite of many DJs and if you're harder to please they're less likely to return.
Peace&Out,
Dave

| Originally posted by Dr. Z You are thinking about complex expression of thoughts and feelings. I'm talking about flaming. Anyone can start a thread and it will be read by many. A simple opinion of a person can become the hot thread with 10 pages of posts making it seem like many TAs are complaining. Durafei said what I meant in a different way. |
, countless actually. You can say "This Dj was pure shit, he sucked ass and I want my money back" or you can say "This Dj wasn't to my liking". Simple, effective, nobody gets offended. Also, many ppl just say 'what', they never say 'why', do you know what I mean?
?
I think all you guys are right.
I find that I compare dj's sets to their best ones Ive heard. For example everytime i hear ornadel i compare his set to his first show in TO and make my judgement based on that.
Lol.. lucky? You are the fifth largest urban area in north america. The top four all have better scenes than you. I really think toronto has the potential for more. But thats another issue altogether.
You are no more snobby or hard to please than any other city. I just think there are alot of you (for some reason..) and you tend to get a few really outspoken people that cause many heated debates. Different people have different tastes in music. If people don't like trance of course they are going to critisize a trance dj.
