I believe he resigned yeasterday so its over, but I think it was really stupid. I mean he wasn't neccesarily implying that our country would be better with segregation(though he probably was), besides many of the people who wanted him to resign wanted his spot, and didnt even care about the remark. Besides our country supposedly prides itself on free speech, if our congressmen can't have it, then were all in trouble.

The members of the U.S. federal government have nothing better to do with their time than bicker like little children, apparently.

Free speech is not really at issue here. The fact remains that Trent Lott, one of the leaders of the Republican party, made a comment that portrays him as a racist. The Republicans are already on shaky ground with minority voters, especially blacks. So, inorder to avoid any further lapse with minority voters, the Republican party must distance themselveses from Trent Lott as far as possible.

he resigned?

good move for republicans, bad for democrates.

the asses could of used him their for all their racial issues he caved into after the speach. to bad they slaughtered him out of the position. now they missed a great chance.

im glad that lott resigned because:

a) this whole strom thing

b) he still doesnt wanna lift sanctions against cuba. ive been pissed at him for this for years now

i dunno, it probably is a good move for the republicans though. but whatvever, strom and lott, two of my least favorite politicans, are out making phase happy muaha

Personally, I believe it truly shows how the Senate is like a club. Lott didn't resign on his own accord, either, he was pressured to by Bush and his administration. THis, though, makes sense, since many Americans aren't sure what to think of Bush at the moment.

It was blown out of proportion just like everything else on US news. Publicity stunts.
