Recording volume on computer

For some reason when i record sets, the volume doesnt seem very high when i play it back in winamp.

Is there a way to amplify an mp3 about 15% ?

Is there a way to make recordings not so quiet. All the volume settings are set high, and my mixer volume is set around 0 where the red meets the green LEDs. Increasing the mixer volume to the red LEDs will make the recording louder, but i think it might sacrifice quality.

Any thoughts?

Check your recording options and make sure the volume for line-in is up to a decent level. And if that doesn't work, when you finish recording your mix as a wav file, you can use a wave editing program such as cool edit, sound forge, gold wave, etc and find the option called 'Normalize', this will bring the volume of the wave file up to it's maximum amount without clipping.

if you didn't do this already, make sure that your line-in to the computer is plugged into the record output on the mixer, not the master output. the record output is set at a reference level which at times is higher then the master output.

I'm not sure why no one has mentioned this before, but you can use a sound recording program like SoundForge to increase the volume on your recorded sets. The function that you would use is called normalization or "normalize". If you did this, it would increase the volume of the entire track so that the highest volume peak is at 0dB. If you get compressor cards like this: http://www.fmraudio.com/ (click on the RNC1773 to the left), you can compress the dynamic range (the difference betwen the loudest and softest volume is lessened such that you will end up with a louder overall signal volume.
