Invisible Grin First Cloned Baby is Born

Read about it @ CNN:

http://www.cnn.com/2002/HEALTH/12/2...ning/index.html

or www.abcnews.com, nbcnews.com, any news site...

Some weird shit...

Posted by discitelli on Dec-27-2002 21:33:

this was bound to happen....just hope it doesn't get too out of hand, and is only used for the good of human kind (like organ creation for transplants and stuff)

Posted by Eugene on Dec-27-2002 21:35:

They can clone everything, but can they clone a soul?

Plus, if you read that article, it says that the group that claims that believes that humans originate from aliens.

Posted by discitelli on Dec-27-2002 21:44:

i havent read it but i'd say that theory is a crock of shit, evolution my friend is the answer, i believe we origanted from some germ or something, but what will always fascinate me is the question of, if we did really orignate from a germ, where did It originate from, and where did THAT origante from, the question is endless....so maybe we did origiante from type of alien speicies...who knows!

but anyway back to the cloning issue....

i think these scienists dont give a damn about whether or not a soul is created when you are born, it hasn't been proven that one even exists so you could say anthing about this, i believe your soul is created through your life experiances, and is not just with you when you a born, but i cant back that becasue i have no proof, its a really complicated subject!

Posted by kirbtastic on Dec-27-2002 21:47:

i think i should be cloned...the world could definately use another me!!!

lol!

as for the cloning issue, as long as the technology is used responsibly, it obviously has great potential for medicine. there's no use in hindering it's development, the definnite benefits out-weigh, imo, the spiritual issues mentioned above...

progress... w00t

Posted by Arbiter on Dec-27-2002 22:19:

Ah the Raelians...

Did you know they believe that they can make themselves immortal by cloning themselves and somehow tranferring their consciousness into the clone?

These are definitely not the kind of people who ought to be at the forefront of anything, except perhaps a neurosurgeon's list of priorities.

That said, I support human cloning so long as it is used responsibly.

the apocalypse has begun...

Posted by piggy on Dec-27-2002 22:29:

Right now I am neutral on this issue, I have yet to see anything good or bad to come from this yet.

Shame / Disagreement

personally, i think its sick to clone humans. obviously there are advantages cloning organs and what not but an actual human.... i think even the idea of cloning humans wrong... genetically engineered humans too :|

i dont think that it will ever be possible to clone souls just b/c i think the soul is basically the product nature AND experiences. just my $0.02 though

I agree, they should spend more time and research to cloning vital organs and stuff to save human lives, rather than cloning humans, to crowd this world even more.

we should clone a lot of hot chicks...so even us ugly guys can have sex with the lights on!!! TRUE!!!!!!!!! im excited about this. lets get workin on this awesome plan. i want to clone penelope cruz first and oontz her clone for days.

Posted by Lira on Dec-27-2002 23:26:

We all knew it was gonna happen anyway And about the "soul" thing... do you really believe that only human beings have souls!?
What about dolly, don't sheeps have souls too? Why are we more special then they are. We get to speak, think in more complex ways, blah, blah, blah, but it doesn't mean we're the only ones who have souls :rolleys:

A lot of "experts" belive its a fake, mostly because if it was real, they would have made announcments far in advance and done certain tests months ago.

Don't be hasty in casting success upon this project so early. There has been no scientific evidence to back up Clone Aids claims. This might be a media ploy to simply gain recognition. The thing that is most surprising about Clone Aids claims is that in only 10 trials/embryos a vialble clone (ie: baby) was supposedly produced. This success rate is highly doubtful as the success rate in other mammals is very low--generally on the order of 1 successful clone per 300 trials.

Of course not. The "soul," or "psychological ego," is simply the result of an individual's interaction/reaction with the environment, and vice versa.

Posted by TranceGiant on Dec-28-2002 01:02:

monozygote twins are already natural clones..so..its not THAT shocking and scary (the cloning itself)
the UNNATURAl new way is the one that should worry us (especially its sociaal/political consequences)

thats your(!)..THEORY(!)

Everyone knew that cloning and all this other genetic stuff was going to happen eventually. i dont really see anything that is wrong with it. just because it could be used for evil shouldn't stop its development.

Posted by cheesenip on Dec-28-2002 02:28:

i don't like how religion plays a part in most scientific discoveries. THere is always some christian or other religious person that tries to block further research development and the like.

This isn't directed only at you, but you mentioned it. What bad sort of stuff do you think might happen if we did infact clone a human?

Posted by eye_03 on Dec-28-2002 04:20:

use it for good...
clone cattle, fish and the like to give to Poorere Countries..

Here we go again:

1. That which is derived from nature is natural. (by def. of natural)
2. Human beings are derived from nature. (premise)
3. Cloned humans are created by humans. (premise)
4. That which is created by something is also derived from it. (by def. of derive)
5. Cloned humans are derived from nature. (by 1 and 3)
6. Cloned humans are natural (by 1 and 5)
