the meaning of the word DUB???

until now I thought I knew what the word 'dub' ment in a tracks title but I'm not sure anymore, e.g. the track Conjure One - tears from the moon (Hybrid's dub) has all the vocals but it is still called a dub

can anyone enlighten me?

An instrumental is a total vocal-free version of the track. A dub either uses none of the vocals, or just a small sample, of the chorus for instance. Simple as...

Hmm.. like these:

Ayumi Hamasaki - Whatever (Ferry Corsten Vocal Mix) --> full vocals
Ayumi Hamasaki - Whatever (Ferry Corsten Dub) --> much less vocals
Ayumi Hamasaki - Whatever (Ferry Corsten Non-Vox Mix) --> no vocals at all

A dub doesn't always refer to the vocal content. For example, Evolution did two remixes of Heaven Scent:

Evolution Main Mix
Evolution Dub Mix

Obviously Heaven Scent is not a vocal track, but the dub mix is simply a darker, less anthemic version. This is often the case.

dub is also a music genre, so that's why it's so confused. Dub is a simpler version of reggae, without vocals, little chords and basicly, the bass Dub house and dub techno evolved from it.

But when they use dub while they are referring to a movie it means that it has been dubbed. Like when you have and English movie and you release it in France. The French will translate the whole movie to French and instead of using subtitles they have other people doing the voices of the actors, but this time the dialogues will be done in French.

Yeah i get what you mean...didnt think of that...maybe the word DUB has the meaning of removing lyrics or voices in general? But in movies you put them back on again.

dub refers alot to vocals...but could also mean melody and breakdowns...alot of times when u hear dubs they dont have breakdowns or they are less intense...but i'm not 100% sure...
