Recording your livesets...

I am recording a demo using SoundForge, and was wondering if there a way to split the huge mp3 file that you end up with into separate tracks?

Is Nero the only way?

yet... Nero is the only way for me...
just convert ms into frames
example.. .750s *75 = 56.25 frame = 56 frames

you know what I'm talking about ?

you can simply cut and paste the time range in soundforge into a new sound file. I have done this before and highly suggest that you use cut and paste and NOT copy and paste. Otherwise you will have a overlap time segment (no matter how precise you think you are being, it will not sound perfect). Cut the last track first, then go backwards through the set until you get to the first track. It is much quicker than cutting from the begining of the set and going into it. Nero is still way faster than this though, because you're going to have to find the cue times to cut and paste, just like you would to .cue the file too.

yes, i agree.

cutting and pasting the files in soundforge definitely works best,
as long as you remember which order each track was in.

i usually use the program hjsplit that you need to join the sets from djmixes2k. after the whole mp3 is saved i split it up using that progie. then just change the filenames from XXXXXXX.mp3.001, XXXXXX.mp3.002, ect to 1.mp3, 2.mp3, ect. once you know how to do it it only takes a few secs to split a set up. it works well b/c you still have the original big file. i usually just delete the smaller ones after i burn it and keep the mix as the whole mp3 on my comp. downside is that is splits the tracks up into the same size. so if you are lookin to break it up at diff songs then this is not the way to do it.

Cool

use cue files dude
look for a program called mp3cue, do a search in the forums

If I have a 700MB wav I want to split, can I just use a CUE sheet??? Instead of chopping the wave???

Yes, that is the easiest way (or one of the easiest ways) to track the file. Just remember the time format is mm:ss.rr, where mm is minutes, ss is seconds and rr is revolutions. You can calculate the number of revolution by taking the fraction of the second and multiplying it by 0.74. For example, if your first track ends at 6min, 18.93 seconds, then your time format would look like this: 6:18.69 (0.93 * 0.74 = 0.688)

Idea

in Wavelab u can drop markers on the track and it doesnt split the file, but when u burn the track using wavelab itll burn it as seperate tracks..... if you do this often....and u r using sounforge to record it for this perpose try wavelab out cos it has all soundforges abilitys and neros (4 music anyway) built into it.

youll find its very similar to soundforge (just with loads of handy extras.....v4 is best

So whats the burning process? Due just burn the CUE and it links the wav in?? What software?

Here is a sample cue file (which is just a normal text file saved with the file extention .cue. This one is from a fellow TA that I just happened to have on my computer. Hope he doesn't mind

Important notes to remember, you don't need a performer or title. The file name should be the full directory unless you always intend to have the cue file in the same directory as the mp3 or wave that you are trying to track. As my last post said, the last of the three time slots is for rotations, not fractions of a second. Notice how there is nothing over xx:xx:73. 74 would represent another full second.

You can use the cue sheet to act like an image that you burn. Programs like CDRwin can use cue sheets. Nero cannot (or atleast my version can't).
