Pvd Review New Year Eve @ Giant

i just cant sleep at all....it's 8 in the morning....and i am still reminiscing the BEST NITE of my life... f@#)ing OMFG!!!

paul's tracklist was flawless...it was just perfect. the highlight of the nite was when he dropped DREAMLAND..everyone was just going crazy. and then at the end, he played NOTHING BUT YOU, the whole entire place was going unreal, i think everyone DIED! HAHA

If anyone can put together the tracklist, iwould really appreciate...
please ID the first vocal sound he played....(it was a male vocal)
then there was another vocal..sounded like joanna, joanna..it was so beautiful..

i some reasons..i think he played Atrium - Golden something like that was the second highlight of nite

other he played
Hi Tech - Let There Be Light
040 Feat. Erica Baxter - Dreams
Nu-NRG - Supersonic
Atrium - Golden----this is OMFG HERE

Murphy Brown & Nu NRG - Aloa-P
The Bass Tarts - Summer In Space
Klea - Tic Toc.....I DIE....DIE
Marco V - Atlanta..this one i am not sure..someone confirm???
Three Drives - Carrera 2
AND OF COURSE A NITE cant not complete without
Solid Sleep - Club Attack

i need ID for the last track paul played...

danny howells was awesome...he kept everyone started and dance til the countdown
then tall paul came on..i did not paid too much attention but i liked him played PUNK, which i expected ferry to drop again tonite!

i was a beautiful begininng of 2003, everyone who was there knew what i was talking about...

Paul van Dyk - Nothing But You still cant get out my head...
I did wish him happy birthday, paul just turned 31.

good morning...
bring on FERRY AND ARMIN NEW YEAR DAY!

You lucky california bastards!!!!!!
PVD, Armin, and Ferry in a 48 hr span!!!

Well I am excited to see the reviews/tracklists!

Posted by sebby on Jan-01-2003 22:25:

That first or second track from PvD sounded like..

Marco V - I Feel You (Paul van Dyk rework/remix)

I guarantee 100% that PvD played something related to this track. I recognized the tune and I was waiting for the vocals to say "I feel you," but I didn't catch it. Maybe one of you guys did.

Glad to hear Paul tore it up in Cali! I was at Glow the other night and he destroyed the place!

Posted by sebby on Jan-01-2003 22:40:

BTW, It was a great party. Howells, Taul Paul, and PvD was off the hook.

I bought 3 tickets at 80 a piece on groovetickets.com went to the booth, the night of the event. That's 240 bucks!!! However, the guys at groovetickets accidently gave me 6 tickets. I sold the 3 extra tickets for 50 bucks a piece. Basically, me and my friends each got 50 bucks back and only spent 30 bucks each to get in.

To top it off, I asked for a $7 drink and gave the bartender 20 bucks, and he gives me back 33 bucks. I thought he had given me 13, but when i saw my original 20 bucks underneath my change, I gave the bartender a 3 dollar tip and walked away with 30 bucks.

So overall, it was a lucky night for me. Everything bad happened to me in 2002 and all of a sudden something good happens to me. I guess it's cuz 2003 is here.

Happy New year Guys!!!

Now If I can only get a ride to the Armin and Ferry show.

if you're lucky it might have also been second sun - the spell.. but more than anything it was prolly blackeight - the silence (pvd rework)

i am glad you guys liked howells. he is so good to us out here. we were pretty upset that he couldn't do NYE with us but he was excited to spin on the west coast for the first time.

Posted by DJScottKeith on Jan-02-2003 20:54:

Sounds awesome - I got to see him last year on NYE, wish I could have done it again this year!

A few of my thoughts on Giant NYE...(from my post on another board)

PvD's set seemed to be very similar to many of his other live recordings and performances over the past six months. This set seemed to have a LOT of similarities to his Giant set last June....and was it just me or did anyone else notice he spun nearly all the tracks off his Politics of Dancing album? What was that about??? I mean, it's an amazing cd, but c'mon! I was looking forward to hearing some more current and fresh tunes from PvD's recordbox, but I guess there haven't been too many great trance releases as of late.

In contrast, Farina ROCKED IT in the BPM tent!! That Pharcyde track was really really good...anyone know the artist/title of the remix Farina used? I was so sore from dancing by the time I got into the tent, all I could do was bounce around. But DAMN, ppl were going crazy in there! Farina more than made up for Howells and Tall Paul, both of which I found almost boring. Every time I see Farina, he impresses me more than the last time!

I loved the setup, the ferris wheel, fairly quick entry into the event, the circular bar around the fountain (great idea!)....all in all a very well coordinated night. The crowding at the front of the stage was annoying, but expected. Hats off to DD for pulling off another great NYE Party!

Dancing Dude

I was amazed how beautiful the event organizers had turned that place into .. I work in that area and it's not very glamorous during the day. All 'n all the setup was excellent except the speakers setup on the right side between the BPM tent and the main stage.. the sound kept getting disconnected. That and too many broken plastic cups, crushed Red bull cans, and debris. One out of four times I would land on something besides the ground .. oh well.. nothing big to ruin my day.

I almost died when PVD started looping the beginning notes of Angel into a song I dont remember.. didn't know what to do, jump higher or cry so I decided to dance harder when he dropped Angel .. I tell ya, it was a real religious experience.

Does anyone remember what else PVD played on NYE that's not posted yet? I myself was too busy dancing to remember much.

Oh yeah and before I forget, hellos to Mandy from Arizona .. this cute chick I met at the event till her buzz-kill friend made her leave

Marco v-I feel you (PVD MIX)
PVD-Animacion
PVD-forbidden fruit 2002
MIDTONE- Pearl
Sasha-wavy gravy (PVD mix)
PVD-OTRA DIA
I dunno, maybe i had my expectations set too high. He DID play PVD-TAKE ME HIGHER
PVD-NOTHING BUT YOU 2X
POLARIS-INspect HER GADGET 2X
ID- "YOUR MAMMAS ALRIGHT"
Well, i had fun .....

Posted by sebby on Jan-04-2003 05:48:

I know PvD didn't play...

Marco V - I Feel You (PvD mix)

..but the tune from that song was played, for sure. Maybe PvD took the words out or something like that. Can someone please confirm this.

Ahhh yes. The Giant NYE celebration.
A look back:

After running around the block from checking in at Bonaventure and getting wrist band #1, to giant will call and back around the block again... then to another line to get another wrist band. Finally around 11:00 I could relax.

TCM was on and the set sounded so-so... others who listened to more said the same. Off to the bar. Run into people ya know all over the place. Off to Danny Howells. Great set. Balloon drop off the standard roof at midnight. PvD came on. I idolize the guy, but his set was a major let down. To the point where I was bored and almost ready to leave because it wasn't very danceable. I felt like I was starting and stopping after every track. Add to that the dance area had a big spot where the speakers seemed to not really reach which made things sound pretty bad. Eventually we realized we were in a dead spot and moved and the sound was better. PvD was a great time none the less.

So after the show is over was off to afterhours. Now the guy on the PA after PvD left announced that Tall Paul would be spinning at 8th and Spring. Apparently we went to the wrong place. We ended up at some run down theatre after the show. How run down you ask?? Well let me just say that after we walked into the place that a chunk of the ceiling fell from 3 stories up and crashed down to the left of the dance floor. But we stayed for several hours anyway. The dj was really good. Played some sick mixes of some great songs and the mix was flawless. I have to give the guy props. The place took me back to the early-mid 90s with all the white gloves, whistles and wings. As the sun rose it was time to take the taxi home and the night was over.
Happy New Year everyone

the only track he still plays off the politics of dancing album is Solid Sleep - Club Attack and occasionally Nu-NRG - Dreamland, and I love him for it!!!

look at the tracklisting someone posted then look at the POD tracklisting...
