Talking Philby's Welcome 2003 "omg i die!!!!" moments

omg!
haha
what a fun night!!!
easily the best new years eve ive had!! i think, hehe. ive never really done anything special for any of them, went to phillip island last year but that wasnt anything spectacular and the year before was a bit dissapointing but this was fun!!!!! haha its 2 days after and im shaking when i write about it!! it was a great night!!!!!! i was gonna catch the train in but my mum was sick so they were gonna stay home so my dad gave me a lift. which meant i could play a cd in the car hehe. "01-hiver_and_hammer-liveset_on_radio_oslo_12-12-20-1real.mp3" you have to download this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 its fucking awesome!!!!!!! hehehe

had that pumping on the way, got out and waited for inacoma to arrive with the tix, rang her and tried to work out where the hell she was lol, i dont have a good sense of direction and i didnt know what she was talking about. its a damn tunnel! not a foot bridge!! haha she got there ok, a little pissed haha but that was ok since she had the tickets!!!!!! we walk in and she gets checked for id, i pull mine out and the same chick goes nah mate your'e right! haha i said suck shit teeheehee. i like it when i dont get checked for id

hmm ok i think we went in and stayed in the bass station part for a while??? then we went to the belfast room for a while which was fun. hehe there was like 2 people dancing when we got in there and they had all these cool huge smilies hanging from the roof! should have gone back and pulled one down after everything finished hehe. after a while in there we checked out nick sentience hehe i didnt know if inacoma wanted to see him that much but i did eheh we got in there just after he started i think? anyway it was great!!! i loved it!! i didn't really know what he played cause i never heard him before, and i wasnt that interested in hard nrg stuff as much now but i was pleasantly surprised and had a blast! haha see moment no. 2

after 45 mins or so we went into the main room to see timo mass. that was good! i liked the song he was playing when we walked in, again i didn't know what he was like but it was good stuff. hehe he played a remix of "no doubt - hella good" which inacoma didnt seem to like! i liked it hehe, i think its the same one renegade and i heard in the 2nd room at sasha. and then there was the countdown and it was midnight!!!! happy new year!!!!!!! dooms night!!!!!!! wtf??????????
haha i don't mind this track but like there could have been other songs that were more appropriate? everyone here seemed to want "born slippy" to be played and i dunno, dooms night doesnt seem a very excitable and celebration kind of song, nor something emotional for the event and excitement everyone was feeling! ah well. cant win em all!!! then he played this track that was like billie jean except it had the "i have a dream" speech in it! that was pretty cool, i thought it would have been better if he played actual billie jean after but it was still fun! i think we had enough of him after a while, i cant remember if we walked out or stayed till he finished? ah i think that was when we went to get a drink and i discovered the playstations! haha that was stupid, i had a go at a rally game and couldnt drive for shit. i wasnt even drunk or anything lol i took the evo over the barrier and down a cliff hehe. i think i was like "omg i killed the driver!"

i think we went for a walk around after that, checked out the other areas for a while to see what was happening there and eventually made our way back to the main area for the end of mark james, and for cj bolland and sister bliss! they all played great!!!!! it was fantastic, and im thinking maybe we should have seen more than just the end of mark james now but ah well. hahaha i think it was about then when we saw the muzzas lol it was funny looking at them, they were so stereo typical, the way they were dressed up for posing with open shirts, obviously had no clue what the music was or anything, hahaha dancing "staying alive" stylez hehe it was funny!!! and we're allowed to bag them cause we're wogs ourselves

the rest of the night was good, cj bolland was mad!! and sister bliss was ok too, i was a bit dissapointed that it was all prog because i had no idea what she plays really (lol a bit of a trend here) and inacoma and the flyer both said "uplifting trance"?? there was none of that to be heard! ah well shes cute anyway so if my ears weren't enjoying it that much my eyes definintely were!!!!!! hehe jolzy was loving it so it was nice to see her enjoying it so much even if i wasnt!! after that i was in desperate need of food so we walked around to find some and went outside to grab some tucker and took the opportunity to sit down for a while and have a break from all the action and look at all the candy ravers in the pants that "look cool but i would never wear them" hehehe. sat out there for a while, got a sms from a friend like 6 hours after he sent it hehe.

after chilling out for a bit we went back in for some more action, ed real i think was playing and then jason midro came on after him. hehe saw a few people who seriously looked like they weren't older than 10, one of them pinched the nearest poster with all the set times so whenever i looked over to see who else was playing i got a blank wall hehe. it didnt register though so i looked again every now and then forgetting the poster was gone lol. hahaha some chick nearly fell over a few times, she looked pretty drug fucked. hehe it sounds mean laughing at her but if u do enough of that shit it does that to you, then u don't get any sympathy from me! her friends didnt seem much better either!!!
hehe omg there was so many cool t-shirts going around, i need to get some. hhehe i think my favourite was the "cyber sex" caption with a guy trying to fuck his pc monitor lol!!!!!!! jolene was a little dissapointed she only got 1 compliment on hers hehe but ah well, we scored a couple of chuppa chups off someone if it was any consolation!!! we just stayed in there for the rest of the night/morning, saw renegade!!! i didnt know u were going!!! hahah i saw your friend from sasha and im like hey thats renegades mate! and then i saw you and im like renegade! i was looking right at you and you were looking at me with the "hey do i know that guy?" face, you kept walking im yelling jimbo!! and you kept going so i scream out JAMES!!!! hahah and u finally looked over "omg phil!!" hahaha. hehe i said to jolene "thats renegade" so she goes hi!! and i didnt think renegade knew her so he just goes "hello..." hehehe he was on his way to get food and on the other side of the barrier, so i think we can plus one to the "see renegade for 2 mins out of the whole event" scoreboard! teeheehee

hmmm i think that was about it! after midro finished it was like thats all, happy new year!!!! people started leaving so we walked and then there was still music in the main area so we stood in the entrance for a few mins as kasey taylor finished up and then the security started telling people to leave. hehehe one of the stage guys looked like peter garrett from midnight oil hahha, that was one of the highlights for me lol. i thought one of the others looked like one of the djs from sasha at qbh! gavin keitel? thats what i thought anyway. timo mass was the only dj in the main area we saw that actually came to the crowd and signed stuff everyone else snobbed us hehe. boooo!! photos! haha jolene wanted to take a pic of cj bolland? but was like "hmm if i do thats one less of sister bliss!!" hahaha i think every 5 mins or so she took another snap of her hehe crazy! the lasers were getting in my eyes a bit but i could handle it, at least there was no fucking stupid smoke machine like at godskitchen!!!
after the security finished telling people to leave i think we just walked out and headed to the train station, said goodbye and that was it!! really a fun time!!!! maybe next(this!!) year if there are djs who i actually know ill do more about it and get organised hehehe.

and now, the moment you've all been waiting for...
hehe
here are my "omg i die!!" moments for Welcome 2003:

5) melt - be liquid!!!!!! in the belfast room!!! i love this song!!!!!!!!!!! haha we were just dancing around a bit listening to the music and i hear like the first millisecond of it and i just went omg!!! whooooo!!!!!! and started jumping around like an idiot!!!! haha it was great!!!!!! it was the only song i knew from that room but there was so many that were like hey have i heard this before? i didnt think i had though, it was good! lol at the smoke machine in there hehehe. there was a pissy little black box with a fan next to it lol. haha what a tune that is

4) cafe del mar!! w00t! i love the j00f remix!!! i think we were in the pharmacy area when i said wanna check out mark james for a bit? and we went to vodafone and as soon as i got in the door! "omg cafe del mar!!!!!!!" ahaha i started running to the stairs to get to the floor!!! im like "come on, lets go!!!" i had to wait for inacoma and drag her with me hehehe. it was mad!!! and i think let the light shine in after that???? good stuff mark james!!

3) sister bliss! chase the sun!!!!!!!!!! i love this track, i dont care if any of you call this commercial crap or cheese, you can all fuck off and blow a goat!!!! shes pretty damn cute!!! it would have been nice to see her look at the crowd a bit more. and "uplifting trance" my arse!!! too much prog!! crazy english summer (hiver & hammer remix) was good though! haha there was 1 person who went spastic to this! no guesses for who it was

2) Nick Sentience!! omg how good is he???? after seeing shokk/sakin/scot project and being dissapointed with that i wasn't sure how i would like him but i wanted to give him the chance!! and im glad he did!!! it was great! i loved everything i heard!!! and omg!!!!!! he played destination!!!!!!!! the bk remix but it was still destination!!! omg i die i cry!!!!!!!!!!!! farkkk! i went off!!! i had tears in my eyes!!!! i love this song soo much!!! if it was the original vocal with all the words i think i would have fainted!!!!

1) and the number one "omg i die!!" moment goes to.......

CJ Bolland doing the prophet live!! omg!!!!!! that was sooooo good! we were all yelling and screaming!!!!!!!!!! yelling out the words with the mc, it was mad!! there was a guy next to us, i dont think he knew what the track was!! he gave me a couple of greasy looks i think probably for yelling it too loud!! hahaha omg that was fucking awesome. tiesto played it at 2 tribes but this was something else!!! the guys who made it performing it live, so hard and powerful!!!! it was insane!!!!!! the prophet is the only song i know from cj bolland and they said they were playing 2 new ones noone else has heard yet too. it was a really good set!!! fantastic stuff!!! definitely the highlight of the night! sorry sister bliss but you miss out on this one!!!

well it was a great night!!! i had a lot of fun!! and i think personally it shows you don't need to take any pills or shit or get hammered to enjoy yourself because if you are just excited to be somewhere with a good vibe and atmosphere you get high on that! just like me!

hehe thanks to nova for supplying entry and big thank you to jolene!! *hugz* for giving me a ticket and putting up with my "omg!!!! destination!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" hehe. i think 3 or 4 times during the night i said "omg i cant believe he played it!!!! omg!!!" hahaha. seriously though it was really fun, i had a great time, it was really good!

roll on 2003!!!!!!
I'M EXCITED!!!!!!!

*haha is this like the longest post? it looks pretty damn long here!*

BIGGEST PIECE OF SHIT EVER

This night was a disgrace. No vibe what so ever. The music it self was even a bigger disgrace, Not one set grabbed my attention. What's even worse was the awful set up, it looked like it was put together in 2 mins.

And last but not least the hardware room (tech) was a absolute fucking joke. "room for 1200" what a lie, more like 200. The sound was awful and was a disgrace to the quality dj's playing even though they didnt cover themselves in glory.

haha i expected the worse and i got it. ah well just imagine what this whinge would of been like if i paid for my ticket.

Posted by Chuck Norris on Jan-02-2003 08:19:

I'm guessing he pulled out a couple of tracks from K90, Steve Blake and i'm pretty sure he would've dropped:

RR Fierce - Neuronex (Nick Sentience Remix)

Yeah, it's becoming a pretty large score eh.

And Tsunami, what are you talking about man? I'll agree that Timo was pretty crap, and some of the DJ's in the Bass Station room after Nick Sentience were as well (from what I was hearing anyway), but apart from that I thought it was set up pretty well, and most of the sets were gold.

The sound held up in the main arena, and considering the way the Bass Station section was set up, I thought it sounded pretty good as well. I'll agree that the Hardware room was cramped and hot, but I thought the sound was pretty good - especially during the Space DJ's set.

Anyway, you had a free night, and so far as I'm concerned it must have beaten another night just stumbling round the city centre till 5am..... ah well, each to their own I guess.

Posted by Wasted_Space on Jan-02-2003 15:56:

Tsunami One:

Why bother going to an event that you already designated as 'shit'? Even if you got the tix for nix, if you are expecting it to be a shit night, you should've sold ya tix and done something that would come closer to being a decent night.

I don't understand the mentality of "Its going to be a shit night, i'll go anyway, essentially to back myself up as to how shit it actually was".

For the record, i didn't go to Welcome, why? Coz no Dj grabbed my attention and therefore I would probably have had a shit night. Instead, I went to a house party with a keg of beer and turntables, played music i wanted to hear and had a fantastic time surrounded by friends.

Horses for courses, really.

The rest of you:

A night is what you make it, it could soley rest upon the music or the quality of the setup or who you go with.

Mark James knows how to play a crowd pleasing set. Bombs aplenty.

On a side note, Belfast parties rock! Thats where you get the Be liquid's and Madagascar's and Heaven Scent's coming through, among other tracks.

LOL were we at the same party? sound was a joke in the hardware room.

You make good points i will give u that. But going to welcome was the last resort the other nye party i was going to go to vemue changed @ the last minute and i could'nt go. I wasnt expecting it to be great but at least i was expecting the sound to be decent and if i do recall the hardware room stated on the flyer "a intimate room that can hold 1200 ppl" what a crock of shit . Your right that the night is what u make it, but nothing could save the hardware room.
