Talking Summadayze!

Yeah, this party rocked my world. Here's an edited post of mine from another forum:

Well, I went in with fairly low expectations, especially given the weather, but I had a fucking blast. Even with two of my mates piking at the last minute to go to Welcome instead ().

Got in there at about midday (why o why were the ticketmaster collection points on the opposite side of the arena to the entrance?). Was immediately impressed by all the friendly people, the CRYSTAL clear and LOUD sound from the main arena, and the amount of effort made by the promoters to ensure that we punters enjoyed ourselves. The vibe and the atmosphere were simply amazing. Sure, the shirtless 'roided muzzas were there, but everyone was having a ball as far as I could see. Now, on to the music:

Kasey Taylor's set was great -- perfect early afternoon music. Especially nice to hear James Holden - Nothing (Returning 93 Mix) played to close it out.

Jason Midro: I'm sure it was a pretty good set, cos there were a lot of people enjoying it. I even thought it was gonna be good after the first 2 tracks (at least he didn't have access to a mike), but what's with putting in 10 seconds of dead silence several times into the middle of a set? Very little Midro for me -- off to the breaks stage for me at that point.

Came back for Mark James' set, opening for the Jaxx, and he didn't disappoint. He had the crowd going off their heads for the whole hour and a half. He started with Underworld - Born Slippy (OMFG) into Planet Funk - Chase the Sun. The set moved from melodic progressive trance to uplifting:

Kirsty Hawkshaw - Fine Day (Mike Koglin Remix)--> WHAT A FKN CHOOOOOOON!!! *cue SQ-K melting into a messy puddle on the dance floor*

followed by PvD - For an Angel, then through to deep prog for the last 10 mins. Mark James is close to my favourite local DJ behind the two TA boys Steve and Dave, and he almost made my day. Almost; the next guys completed the job.

Basement Jaxx absolutely rocked the place. House, R&B, jazz, garage, breaks was the order of the day, and I was mighty impressed. I hadn't heard much about their DJ sets, but I heard their live skills are amazing. Needless to say, I enjoyed their set (and this coming from a diehard trance lover). 20,000 people going OFF to 'Where's Your Head At' will remain a highlight for years.

Graham Gold played a bit of everything, moving from house to progressive, and was just getting stuck into trance when his set ended 30 mins before the advertised time. Hopefully it was airline issues, cos if they cut him specifically to increase Sean Quinn's set, that's pretty ordinary. If I want to, I can see Quinn any time.

And Quinn, well he played his usual stuff, maybe a little more melodic and less dark. Quite honestly, I thought it was a REALLY good prog set. One of the best I've heard. However, for some reason I just don't think prog is the stuff to close a party with -- doesn't always leave you feeling satisfied. Some tech (I wish -- oh wait, there was a separate stage for that) or trance would have done more nicely I think.

So there's my review of the DJ's. I've left out that I danced my love handles off (literally), met some wicked new randoms, spent ages chilling on the hill, and in general just loved every second of it. Music is a major factor, but it's not the only factor.

Didn't see stipsy at all, but he may have been more occupied with his vodka. Here's a happy new year to all the TAs, and I hope your celebration was as good as mine!

LOL

hehe glad u had fun!!! did it rain much???? what was the eye-candy like???

Posted by SQ-K on Jan-03-2003 03:48:

it probably rained for about an hour, but that was during mark james/basement jaxx, and i was safe and dry underneath the bowl The eye-candy was outstanding -- I saw the most beautiful girl I've EVER seen, dancing next to a speaker near me. Not posing or looking for attention, just simply stunning. There were many other contenders though . Well worth the effort and a great day out.
