ok ive decided that im gonna build a pc and was wondering if anyone knows if the listi have made would make a reasonable pc.
AMD Athlon XP2000+ CPU
Asus A7v333-x motherboard
512mb 133mhz dimm memory
3.5 1.44mb floppy disk drive
LG GCE4320 32x10x40x 12xDVD combi IDE CD Writer
Seagate 60GB Harddrive
Creative sounds - sound blaster live 5.1 oem soundcard
64MB Geforce MX400 AGP Graphics Card
ATX Case with clear side panel

You call that a budget pc? 
I think a normal Cd/dvd drive would be good if you want to copy cd to cd.
If you download a lot get a larger harddrive like 120gb
nice motherboard. sound card is good too. nvidia video cards are usually good.
i would suggest you consider a nforce2 basses motherboard, they maybee a bit more expensive, but they are rock stable and offer 5.1 sound, saving u the need to buy a soundcard.
Looks like an good budget setup. The motherboard is nice even though it's a bit old, as it allows for upgrading to a 333mhz fsb cpu like the Athlon XP 2800+. If you want to play games, go for a better video card, the PoW GF4 Ti4200 64mb is good for a budget pc, and you can overclock it a lot as well. Remember, the MX series Geforce 4 cards are no faster than the ageing Geforce 2, which means almost unusable in todays games. It would be wise to wait a couple of weeks for the new Geforce FX to show up, as todays graphics card prices will drop a lot.
The most important thing is to make sure that the memory you are buying fits your motherboard, you need "PC2700 DDR-DIMM" or the cheaper but slower "PC2100 DDR-DIMM"
Also, remember that you need a heatsink for the cpu, otherwise it won't last long. It shouldn't be very expensive, something like 15$ I guess. Go for a silent one, as your cpu doesn't need a monster cooler.

I would suggest you get a different brand motherboard because ASUS are good but very expensive. There are other good mobos that do the job just as well but cheaper.
You also want to get a decent power supply, and not some cheap one.

could you recommend a motherboard that would take
pc133 memory cause i can get these cheap or is it wise to go for something else
and what graphics card would be good as i play alot of games

Don't get the 64MB Geforce MX400 AGP Graphics Card,
MX cards are downgraded and not that good.
I have an Abit Siluro 64MB GeForce4 Ti4200 and it is alright, but even it struggles (when overclocked) with new games that are very demanding (for example morrowind and medal of honour).
Older games, or graphically less demanding ones, like counter-strike, neverwinter nights, age of mythologies, and even UT 2003 run smoothly with high settings.
SO I advise you dont go with any card less than a ti4200 (if you go with the Nvidea line).
They got these really cool modems here and you can add blacklights in them or any lights you want they are so awesome!! i think im gonna build one too!!!
ok skip the 3,5 floppy station...never used anyway...
then get a decent cd-rom 2, can't make it without it 
you should consider getting ddr ram instead of sdram too
I suggest you go for a second cd rom drive instead of the LG combo drive. Go for the Lite On 48X, it's cheap and rock solid. Having a second cdrom so you can burn on the fly.
I also like seagate drives. I've had a few and they've been rock solid never letting me down. Also if you're a gamer I suggest you get a better video card.
Also with memory prices so cheap nowadays why would you wanna stick with sdram? Go for DDR.
Asus motherboards all tha way. Remember the most important thing is to get a keyboard with a piano keyboard atached. Very very handy.
DDR RAM is a must for you - sdram is has almost become non-existant in the motherboard-support.
If sound is important - look at changing your sound card to the the Audigy 1 or 2 series, but dont get the ones with bays - waste of money
Same with graphics cards - If its of importance, look at going 128MB.
The rest looks fine.
get a cheap radeon (9500) isntead of mx, mx is WAY too crappy, get either a plextor/tdk/ or a liteon CDRW/ they are all pretty good and liteon is the cheapest
ddr ram of course because no one sells SDR ram anymore LOL, its for extremely old PC's

i know cus i have one :/ but in these times, a computer is old within 4 - 6 months or untill something faster comes out.
The PC looks nice (a whole heck of a lot better than my Athlon 700 I'm on now hehe) but the some things I'd change are like said earlier, the ram.. you definitly want DDR. It's going to cost more it's worth it. The other thing I really think you should change is the video card. The GeForce 4 MX400 isn't a bad card but for $100 you could get a GeForce 3 TI500. Yes, it's a GeForce 3 but it's almost as good as the GF4 TI4400 which is a much nicer card than the GF4 MX440. Also, if you're planning to order this stuff online definitly use Pricewatch. You'll get the best prices there.

I have a similar pc so here a few suggestions:
-Good mobo, i have the same.It comes with sound integrated so unless you havea 4 or 5 speaker setup theres no need to buy a sound card.
-get the 2700 ram like everyone suggested, 256mb is fine, you can always add more later when prices drop
-get a GF4200, trust me, its well worth it if you play games. I have an MSI (its cheap and comes with a shitload of software/games). If you want to be able record video from your TV etc i suggest getting the card with tv in/out. Its only like $10-20 more.
-if you do get a GF4200, you must get a 350watt Powersupply. trust me 
. Then you wont have to worry about overheating so you can get a basic case and you wont need any extra fans.
-get the 80gig HD. I have a western digital and its great.
here is what my pc and it cost me ~$1000 cdn in september:
Asus A7v-333
AMD 1800xp
256mb 2700 ram
lg dvd rom
MSI GF4200 tv in/out
80gig WD hd 7200
and i already had a burner from my previous pc.
I use win2k btw and its solid like a rock.
