i know im going to cause a lot of trouble with this!!!....

even though i do like him...

i think pvd is the cheesiest out of all the big name trance djs!!!
a lot of the stuff he plays is pure shit

(all those dicks like scott bond, svensson and gielen etc dont count cos they were never good to begin with! )

Posted by Paulie on Jan-06-2003 02:23:

Rofl!!!!!

I think there are quite few people with similar opinions but with PvD's gimp moderating the forums, people are not as forthright with their opinions on PvD.

PvD is orrigh imo got no gripes with him.

Posted by SQ-K on Jan-06-2003 02:35:

i've got to agree. he's my least favourite as well. he may be the best technically speaking, but as far as track selection goes, he just doesn't do it for me.

Posted by Renegade on Jan-06-2003 02:36:

Yeah, thought he played okay when he came out in May, but nothing special. Still don't really think he's worth this "omg I die" rap he seems to get on the forums though.

As for his productions, well he does have his remix of Binary Finary (which stands as the greatest trance tune ever imho), his remix of Cream and For an Angel, but nothing else that would really cause me to ejaculate in my pantaloons.

Er yeah, so that aside, he's a good DJ (brilliant when it comes down to the technical side of things), above-average producer and a nice guy to boot, but he still isn't worth the reputation he has I don't think.

Then again though, I suppose you could say that about most of the top DJs....

Posted by stipsy on Jan-06-2003 02:42:

dont get me wrong..i still think he plays a lot of great stuff..

but his sets always have quite a few shockers in it

Posted by Tsunami One on Jan-06-2003 02:44:

hahaha pvd gimp i like that.

Posted by DynaFire on Jan-06-2003 02:57:

I still think his set HR XXL clubnight 19/8/2001 is one of the best, if not the best set EVER. It has inside all the people, Crystal (Lee coombs mix) -New Order and Shout by Sagitaire. It is amazingly well mixed and all round damn good. I love it. Though i have heard some of his sets that where pretty boring. It is not like John "are you bored to the point of suicide " flemming. What is Tiesto's stuff like at the moment? I haven listened to anything of his for a while, had a bit of a low patch i though, hopefully his getting back to amazingness..

Isn't that what you are doing to Helen K with what you're saying about Paul van dyk?

Posted by stipsy on Jan-06-2003 03:31:

no..i was making a statement about paul van dyk

if u read carefully ive stated i do like him..and he plays quite a lot of good tunes...but he is playing a lot of cack in his sets these days as well..

lets not take this too seriously though..its music and djs when it comes down to it! theres more important things in life !!!

p.s pvd is shit!!!

hehe..only kidding

(better look out for that gimp!)

Posted by bassaholix on Jan-06-2003 03:55:

Hello!

People... we all have our uppers and downers... thats what the whole scene is about... its in those moments of pure shitti'isms.. lol u can tell i don't play by the rules in scrabble... anyways...

In a song.. there is a buildup = an upcomng DJ
there's also a main section = stuff like DJ Scott PRoject...
the build up = PvD
the main melody = Ferry

LOL i can't explain for shit.. but some ppl might get me... right??

We can't all be in the main melody all the time... cause that will bore...

you cant like a gurl all nite... she will go numb down there.. LMFAO

Seee BOREDOM = NO GOOD M8-T

bassaholix's intelligence is ahead of the times than any of ours and on a level that only he can understand.

Posted by Renegade on Jan-06-2003 04:22:

Hmmmmm..... mystifying.

Posted by escee on Jan-06-2003 05:47:

I agree pvd isnt great, he is over rated on this board for sure.

ahahha
i think we should all be tradesmen, seems like every thread manages to get around to the "tradesman's entrance" eventually

I do partly agree with stipsy though, PVD is equal with Sasha in terms of mixing, but his productions are quite uninspiring lately. Although it's kinda funny, everybody rails on PvD lately for doing the "Insta-bass-hihats-remix-in-a-can" thing, but he's always been doing it. See his remix of Cream as an example, he hardly changed the original, but came out with a blinder of a track! I think he needs to branch out, do something that doesn't sound like everything else he's ever done...

Didnt PvD do a remake of the remix of cream?

I have no qualms with the Dyk!
The sets I have heard from him are top stuff! He plays the tunes that I want to hear and I've never had any problems with the quality of his mixing. I enjoy his productions; love the older stuff like For An Angel, Another Way, Forbidden Fruit, as well as his recent tunes like Animacion. Sure, he's got the whole "instant remix in a can" thing going, but in general I do like his remixes regardless of that fact.

bassaholix...do you want to elaborate more on your theory? if I could understand it, I'm sure it would revolutionise my way of thinking

Posted by Master_Yoda on Jan-06-2003 11:50:

Guys... I have to add that AvB played a mad 2 hour set at Godskitchen last year in Melbourne.

I don't think i've danced so hard.

And don't call this 'over rating', it's just what happend and it's my opinion..... and u can't really expect him to play what u want to hear all the time.

Absolutely agree .. but we're talking about Paul van Dyk, not Armin van Buuren
