Hello! the tranceaddict history

hey i was wondering how tranceaddict came about
what started the idea? is this site ran by just swamper?
im just really curious because i am thinking of opening my very own site some day
i also wanted to say that i think its amazing that an idea to just start a web site turned into a world epedimic.People from all around the world use this site to get great info about our music as if we were in the industry ourselves

Well, all I know that a great deal of the people, back in the days of Napster, people saw the tranceaddict tag on some of the best trance tunes, and thats what brought many . At least thats how I got to find this site :-)

I knew about the site before napster, but ill admit i was a moocher who just downloaded the songs. I found out the great aspect of the forums this year though.

Swamper is the mastermind behind tranceaddict: he's the one who runs the whole thing. He started a couple of years ago (not sure): in the beginning, ta was just a place to download music without having to deal with those bloody porn pop-ups. It grew, it grew, kept growing, and turned into what it is today As simple as that

hmm, i found it searching for trance music videos online
long ass time ago, i think i registered in the forums in 2000, but i forgot my password and username, so redid it in 2001 may or osmething

Posted by Hi-Voltage on Jan-06-2003 06:59:

I registered 2 years ago,but I know this site for 2 and a half year

i believe the concept started in '99 or something... maybe the execution began in 2000? Swamper had a mock-link to how the site used to look in its frail beginnings up awhile back... maybe if you're lucky he'll repost it.

oh man the history of the forums is even greater than TA itself hehehe. *opens his TA black book*

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-06-2003 15:12:

Swamper started the site as a one page sharing site I believe and eventually went to the forums. There are many OLD SKOOL ta's on the forums that were around since the beginning or near the beginning. You had Mizzuno, Swamper (OF COURSE!), Linx, Me, Coup, Blik, Richierich, Sugarbean, Slylee, Redeye_, Tempestrip, Phaze, Infinity, JdDark, Mosh_Man, Wicked Red, Wicked Neo (and that pvd loving F00l! starfox) and a bunch of others that I'm probably forgetting. Now if Swamper had not found robotic hamsters to run his servers, there would be no ta. SO THANK THE ROBOTIC HAMSTERS PPL!

I found this site through a netwrok called TranceGate.
Not sure if any of you guys went to that site or not. It was the best trance link site. used to have loads of links on it. Hundereds of sites including TA. I think the site is down now.

I've been comming to tranceaddict for over two years now. I used to have another nick name but I didn't use it for like half a year and I forgot it.

Posted by InfiniteSquare on Jan-06-2003 18:01:

ok

Posted by Tranex02 on Jan-06-2003 19:54:

well, when i first visited TA, if you clicked on the Canadian flag on the main page, it would take u to an article that swamper wrote on how and why he decided to create such a website. I think it started when swamper went to Portugal and somehow got inspiration from that visit, and decided to create this website.
Wonder why swamper took it off???

Swampers the man!

We are Quite a few well-known DJ's and producers use these forums, and judging by the production / DJ forums, a large number of tomorrows stars will too :P

edit: that's not to imply I'm a well-known DJ or producer. I'm nobody

pfft

you god damn 2001 n000bs who don't know shit!

Posted by Swamper on Jan-06-2003 21:28:

One reason it started was because the only other 2 web sites on the net you could get trance from were MeeTTechno and JayDee.cz - unfortunately they both no longer exist - I figured there was room for me too.

Another reason is that Trance was there for me in 1998/1999 when I needed an escape, and I would not have had that easily were it not for the parties in my area and MP3s I had been getting from Napster & other places over the years - simple as that. I just wanted to spread the love (insert cheesy plurific statement here)

I never thought the forums would get this popular, nor did I have much hope when in the first 10 months I was barely getting 1500 visitors a day.

Now I have less spare time and can't dedicate as much time to the site as I used to but I do what I can, when I can.

Peace.

just dont sell the site!!

(unless someone gives you like a million dollars of course then you gotta do what you gotta do)but i hope you dont!

hehehe dont worry, he forgot me too ... mmm but yest, I've been around for a while, a veeery long time. I was here before there was the change in forums. Which in fact, was down for a time, well, I think. All I know is that after the forums went down back then, I just kinda forgot about this site, until some months later, where I re registered as LiquidX , so yes, IM LiquidX :-) .. i forgot the password of this screename, but then I remembered it once again. I pretty much respect this alias.

By the way, whatever happened to the so called, Police named Paul Wilson ! ? ! ? ... Also, theres been alot of things in tranceaddict. Very memorable stuff. I remember that guy, forgot his name, who always brought us the latest and best trance tunes. He played them on TA radio but then he got critizice for .. uhum, something by some TA's, and he left. Though, he did a lot for TA in means of music back then.

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-06-2003 21:59:

paul wilson is still around.....by another name tho. I know you are also discussing the f00l named simcut. I have nothing nice to say about him....so I won't say anything.

Posted by bigjimslade002 on Jan-06-2003 22:09:

yeah whatever happened to old simcut, seems like he was one of the most popular guys around here at one time...'
