How exactly do you guys make a mix cd? Really
do you guys just pick any tracks that you like out and blend them onto each other or do you actually throw in your own tune and/or remixes of the tunes? im sure you can't sell them or advertise them since the tracks are not yours
Here's my method:
Pick a few tracks from my collection, think about what vibe I want to create with the CD.. Find the keys of all the songs in consideration, shuffle them around according to compatibility, come up with a tracklist..
AIM the tracklist to a bunch of friends, get either a mild response or a *REALLY* excited response. If it's *really* excited, go record the CD. Otherwise, rinse and repeat
I just play random tracks that I think will sound good together...i usually have some tracks that I want to highlight...but its not like im tracking them
Before you laugh try it first.
Gotta be in the mood (plenty of Vodka and some of the Greeners Finest Select)
Like to start with an "intro" something people have never heard and/or a track without positive tempo and/or little evidence or signs of what is about to come up.
I record to an AKAI VS-603U directly from my Vacuum Tube Leveling/Compressor Pre-Amp. The Pre-amp allows you to use the XLR's(to the Power Amp) and TRS Outputs (to the AKAI) simultainously. Then record the final Master Tape to my computer with wave studio.
GET THIS!!!!
The Akai VS-603U is a 1990's Hi-Fi VCR I picked up for $50. It has adjustable Input levels and good quality vU meters. The vU Meters are a HUGE option not found often on VCR's!! Plus it is very well built, looks good and only has the features you need!! guess 35 lbs
Sound Quality???
These are the best sounding CD's I have ever made. To be honest I feel they sound better than many mass produced retail cd's. I would like to experiment with some dbx Noise reduction equipment, but tape hiss is not noticable unless you look to hear it.
