Technics vs. Dennon vs. Pioneer CDJ 700/1000
Hey kids,
I know that CD vs. Vinyl has been addressed elsewhere in these forums. What I am looking for is an opinion from you, experts

So, I decided to progress from Numark MP3-based, Traktor DJ-based, VTT based environment, into the "real world". I want to learn how to dj in hands-on situation. Now, I know that today turntables are sold at higher rate than Electric Guitars but I still want to try to become a "part of the scene" 
Anyway, assuming that I don't have any records right now but have over 500 (legal) CDs, should I:
a. Go with Technics SL MK2S (brand new) for $399+tax/ea
b. Go with Dennon DP-DJ 151 for $299/ea +shipping
c. Pioneer CDJ1000
d. Pioneer CDJ700
e. Quit wasting my time on stupid dreams and enjoy pc-based bedroom spinning sessions?
I make a decent living on my day job, so for me this is a hobby. I'd like to learn and I'd love to try doing some gigs - hell, I don't even want to be paid, I just wanna have some fun.
So, since I don't plan on becomming the next big DJ, I just wanna learn - see if I can get some people to move (again... after many years of forgottend days of being a (ahhhemmm) tape DJ) - which one of the above options should i go with?

if i were you, i would get a nice mixer though, then you can do hands on mixing, and still use your computer to play the songs with.
if you like buy a CD player or two, pioneer makes the best, but denons are good too.
if you have tons of CDs already, then i wouldn't buy turntables.
I would get two Denon DN-S5000 and focus on CDs. The S5000s are similiar to CDJ1000s but has a lot more nice features. Read about it on Denon's website. The price of one is the same as a CDJ1000.
Starting a vinyl collection takes a lot of resources and space. Plus you have to deal with vinyl care and cartridges. You can use the CDJ/S5000 like a turntable so if you decide to eventually get turntables the leveling curve is extremely low.
Speaking from personal experience, I use both. Vinyl and CDs and I gravitate towards CDs. Hot cues are so useful.
if you dont plan on spinning out, i'd just stick with PC based mixing - 1200's are expensive and the only way to go - and vinyl gets expensive.
if you are going to buy hardware, screw CDs.. vinyl is SO much more fun and there are many reason's its just plain better...
My personal recommendation would be to get a second soundboard, an external mixer, and a nice MP3 mixing utility (atomixmp3 is my preference, v2.2 is REALLY nice.. PCDJ, traktor, and VTT are decent too!)
Mixing with an external mixer on the PC is LOADS better than just on the PC - you have the gains, eq's, faders, etc etc.. at your fingers.
All you need is a simple mixer... Maybe a pioneer DJM300? simple quality little box, and they are not big OR expensive
When you mention Technics SL MK2S, do you mean SL1200MK2 or do you mean the new Technics CD Players that look a lot like the 1200? I've seen pictures of these CD Players and they look quite impressive. I was drooling over how close these CD Players look and act like a 1200. Does anyone know where to buy these Technics CD Players, or where can I get more info on them?

it also depends on how much time you wanna invest into mixing.
I find Vinyl more fun to spin than CDs cuz of the novelty of it and i love the feel.
but spinning on CDs is great too. plus if you go with those, then you will never have to worry about buying vinyl.
vinyl shopping sucks up lots of money and time. if you feel that you want to invest the time and money into it, then by all means go for it.
but if you have a day job and you really don't want to get into DJing out then i think the best option is to go with CDs.
i think you will get more utility out of them.
unless you actually go out and buy CD singles, you will be saving more money (and time) in the long run by going with CDs.
you can play whatever songs you already have now and don't have to worry about searching out prized tracks on vinyl.
also with vinyl, you have to worry about wear on the records and buying needles and replacing them.
also many people who just want to get into it for the hell of it to play around and have fun, will likely buy tables and a few vinyl here and there and never take full advantage of their tables (i don't know you so i can't say this is the case, but it is true of many people).
so you will have your tables sitting around collecting dust, because you don't have the time or are unwilling to go out and blow a bunch of money on records. and you will play the same songs over and over and it will get boring quick.
with CDs, you can just download a new awsome track and spin it for fun in your bedroom along with tons of other songs you like. you have new songs at your disposal within minutes.
and besides the pioneer CDJ1000's CDJ800's and Denon S5000 all work in the same fashion as a turntable. you can move the platter around just like a real deck. plus you get to use all the added features the digital world makes possible.
you'll invest about 2000 on the CD tables plust another 300-400 on a good mixer, but you will never have to worry about spending any money again in the long run. nor will you have to worry about maintence of them nor buying records.
for CD tables, i would also suggest the Denon s5000's
they are essentially the same as the Pioneer CDJ1000's except they have even more special looping, recording, effects features and they cost the same if not less.

I completely agree with monty.... and I wanna add that you might want to check out the new Denon S3000. It's a more affordable model of the S5000. think it costs around $600-$700 dollars [per table].
