tech question: network problem <<SOLVED>>
Ok, Here is the case.
I have two computers networked through a server with two eathernet cards running ICS and FW on XP SP1. The other computer is running winME. All other network connectivity i.e. file/print sharing, msn, internet ect. works except email usign outlook express. I have checked to makes sure that server adresses and network settings are complete and correct but Nothing will get that computer to check its email! I'm almost 100% it has something to do with the XP ICS but i havn't a clue what.
Im using rogers and i can't ask them for help because they don't support home networking and i've already posted this in another tech forum but no one replied! TA IS MY LAST HOPE!
Anyone with any ideas? I will love you forever!
Cheers
Daniel

i just had the other day the same kinda question, it could be firewall...did you install firewall? if you did then check your setting for it. Me edition is lacks network abilities which XP has, so that could be a problem..Re: Re: tech question: network problem

1. Junk the Outlook Express...
2. What Diginut said...that should work...
The DNS alias 'pop' probably isn't being translated properly to the full DNS path 'pop.ym.phub.net.cable.rogers.com'
Let us know if it worked!

The only known issue with WinXP SP1 is one single pirate key - i.e. if you install SP1 and you used this pirate key, it either won't install or won't boot. I just changed my key and I was fine. But in any case, what server address are you using on the computer that won't connect to e-mail? If it's something like just "pop", try "pop.ym.phub.net.cable.rogers.com". Same with the smtp server. I hear this problem a lot from people behind routers, and 99% of the time this solves it. |
. This verion of XP was a pre-release of the final Windows XP pro version. But this verion of Windows is a beta anyway and was not 100%. If You install the SP1 Patch on it your windows will not crash nor malfuncion. It will simply inform u that you have used a "blacklisted key" and that your Windows will continue to operate but cease to download windows updates in the future.
