Live Ripping from Radio

Ripping Livesets from the Radio

I currently use MusicMatch jukebox for this as it allows high quality streaming straight into MP3.

However, as I am sure many of you are away, the R1 Essential Mix is broadcast between 2.00AM and 4.00AM Sunday morning on the Radio in the UK. For me to rip it using MMJB means I have to be awake to start the ripping, and then to stop it two hours later (or leave my compy on a timeswitch which just switches it off at about 10 past 4 )

I'm after a program which allows *good* recordings using a timeswitch.
I remember seeing one a while back, but couldn't get it to work properly.

Anybody got any ideas, or use one themselves?

Thanks

Hey mna question... I have also the musicmatch jukebox plus tell me how can I record directly from raadio to 192kpbs quality or mp3??

Plizz advice me on that... BTW do you know of any prgram that can make a convertion for audio for example a 64kpbs set to a 192kpbs
Let me know need this quick!!

Thanks In Advance

Thanks

Conversion

Ok for conversion of mp3 files, I use a program called dbpoweramp, http://www.dbpoweramp.com/ . This will convert any bitrate to any other bitrate (along with file conversion), but you must understand that this will NOT increase the quality! The original bitrate means that the set will be kept at that quality, just the sample rate increased and thus the file size increased.

If you can imagine, making a really disgusting cake and then sticking nice icing on it doesn't make it nice. Just look better

MusicMatch

There is an option inside MusicMatch JB
Options > Recorder > Source > Line In
plug your radio headphone jack into the Line In Port of your PC.

Options > Recorder > Settings
Change it to MP3 CBR (Constant Bit Rate) 192Kbps

You may have to download a codec in order to do this last part, I use Blade - search for bladeenc on Google.

Musicmatch uses a major amount of ram, and i used to find it would freeze if i was recording and using other applications

I usually use total recorder, save as a wav file, then edit in soundforge 6 and encode to mp3 using lame encoder

Me too now Just using Blade instead of Lame.

Works really well!

I have musicmatch also

Question..

When I finish recording from a radio stream on the web, when I want to listen to it I cant at all.

I have evrything ready check mark is on on the line in record and still cant listen

How do you record to c if maybe I have something missing.
Thanks
Jesp

When I record stuff from radio channels I record it from our digital TV satelite. I use Cool Edit 2000 to record and then I use RazorLame with the LAME 3.93 codec.

Now my question is: Is there any point in encoding my recordings to 224 KBps CBR MP3?? Am I getting a higher quality MP3 or am I just wasting disk space???

I think I read somewhere that if you recorded from a normal radio/reciever, there should not be any point in encoding over 192 KBps.. But does this only apply for normal radio recordings?

Many questions here
I hope some of you can answer them.

Posted by CraSHer[UK] on Jul-14-2003 12:01:

I would say there is little point recording anything above 192, simply because the disk space used becomes disproportiantly higher than the gains in quality,

and if you want to keep something at perfect quality, then mp3 is not the answer, use .wav

First... I think this post was done back when you were not able to restream the essential mix but I hope everyone know that you can listen to it again. No need to wake up in the middle of the night anymore. Second, I use easy cd creator to record my sets/radio shows to mp3. Does it directly to mp3 and theres no temp wave file. I haven't checked how much mem it takes buy i'm sure its not much at all

I myself use Messer for live recording.

Very small, freeware, can record directly to 192kbit mp3, you can choose both Lame or Blade-codec, and can record any time: You can schedule events.

For Mac Users....

On my mac I use AudioHijackPro. It cost 30 dollars for the shareware fee but it was well worth it. It records the audio from any open application and can save it as an AIFF, Mp3 or VBR Mp3.

It also is compaible with VST plugins so you can add compressors, equalizers, normalization, etc.

I use it mostly for BBC Radio1 stuff and to pull songs out of Flash animations.
