Massive night out in Sydney!!!!!!

OMG

I just have to start out with another OMG. As we all know Sydney is suffering from a lack of decent Trance nights, venues e.t.c. e.t.c.

Something absolutely amazing happened on friday night. I was at GIlligans on Oxford St with a friend and another friend dropped by and said lets go to Eden (also on Oxford St). Eden is normally known as a crappy little club on Oxford St that plays top 40 tunes. They used to have a weekly night called School Disco . Anyway recently they have been having hard trance/euphoric trance on a friday night. They have a night called Surge every fortnight.

Anyway I had been there on a non Surge night and it was pretty good. Anyway last friday was a Surge night. As we were walking down the street I could here such classics as Nu Nrg - Dreamland e.t.c. e.t.c. BUT nothing prepared me for what happened when I walked in the door.

The place was packed and not just packed like PACKED. I have never seen Ice Box get the numbers that this place had. And not only was it packed it was absolutely going off. The Euphoria in the air was undescribable (and no I hadn't had any drugs). Everyone there had a smile on there face, it was great everyone was so happy to be there. You could walk up and talk to anyone or dance with anyone. It was fantastic. The music was absolutely awesome. Upstairs was Euphoric Trance and downstairs was Hard Trance. The builds up and tricks the DJ's were doing during the buildups drove the crowd crazy, literally screaming at the DJ's. This place was so going off that the bar staff and customers were dacing on the couches and on top of the bar. The night was just plain wild!

The Dj's downstairs were a bit Amateur like there was a fairly audible Train wreck. But besides that the venue was great. 2 areas. They had an argon laser at the front above the DJ, smoke machine e.t.c. e.t.c. Some of the other things that were great was there were loads of comfortable couches so you could sit and watch. It was like the trance room at Altitude Dendy except about double/tripple the size. with couches, lasers, smoke machines and ventilation.

Anyway if you can go to Surge at Eden on a friday night I highly recomend it. I think the next one is not this friday but next

dude u can't call a dj amateur cause of one train wreck... if u be speaking about a lot of train wrecks then i understand... but i have heard Diggers, Armin, Nick Warren, Oakey, PvD, lots by tiesto.. all do trainwrecks... are they amateur...

like Tiesto's 9hr solo set, is pretty much train wreck after train wreck for 9hrs... and he got #1 dj last year... so go figure

The next Surge is 7th of Febuary. I will most probably go again. It was alot of fun and a great crowd.

There were a couple of train wrecks. Also I find that when pro DJ's trainwreck they can usually cover it up well. Turn down one of the bass lines e.t.c. e.t.c. This was more of an Amateur train wreck - Oh no stuff is going wrong what do i do?

verdict on surge:

went there with a couple of friends. Cost was $10 which isnt anything to complain about.

music: up top was Hard trance, basically the same kind of music you would hear at Sublime. Not really my thing but the crowd was really into it. It was LOUD. And I mean so loud that it hurt your ears and you coudlnt even talk to someone by shouting into their ear. Too loud IMO.

Down stairs seemed to be more uplifting but the sound system had some major problems and upstairs was so loud that you could hear the beat going. Imagine a silent or quiet moment in an uplifting song and all you can hear is DOOF DOOF coming from upstairs. The 2nd DJ I saw there basically gave up and stopped playing

Upstairs was really really hot, almost unbearable really. No aircon, just a few fans. Venue was ok, downstairs was really nice with couches etc, but its more of a bar/pub really, not a club. Dance floor upstairs was small and the bar went alongside the dance floor as it extended back so you had people pushing past you all the time.

Crowd was a bit too Oxford St for my liking, lots of guys in jeans and stripey shirts, girls in dresses etc Was a good looking crowd though and they were having a good time.

I think we would have had a really great time if the sound was good downstairs and wasnt to loud upstairs, but after a couple of hrs and the DJ downstairs stopping my friends wanted to go to Plastic so we left.

Dunno if I will go back there again, I think it could have been a good night but there were a lot of problems with it too

Yeh I went, that surge wasn't as good as the last Surge. The people weren't as into it either. Last time the crowd was going nuts. Also last time the upstairs DJ played much more uplifting trance
