PC Recording Equipment

OK, I know this topic has probably been posted before but here goes again......hehehe

Was wondering where you connect the cables for the equipment to the puter?

Also, how does this setup look......I was thinking it would be something like this:

Turntables
.
.
Mixer
.
.
Cables
.
.
Puter
.
.
Program

hooking up

hi. Im not sureif this is correct

Look for a output channel on the mixer, use a 2>1 cable.. RED/WHITE to a single jack(those that looks like the jack for a normal cd player headphone/earphones)

Connect that jack to (not sure if im right) a MIC input on the soundcard.. or if possible a LINE IN.

Then use some sort of recording software to record. There are alot of recording softwares on the net. Dont use WAVE RECORDER that comes with WINDOWS. its lousy.

well hope i helped.

From your REC out or AMP out of your mixer, put this into your LINE IN on your soundcard. Good software for this would be cool edit, sound forge, audio magic, total recorder, etc. You will probably need an RCA (red/white) to 1/8" adapter (available at radio shack or similar stores).

Alright, cool

I'm using a Vestax 275 so I'm guesing the RCAs run from the Master Output plug-ins to the soundcard w/ a 1/8 tip

So, in summary there should be a Line in on my Sound Card that I hook the RCA cables to. So basically, when I record, I will have to take the casing from the tower off?

Was told that cool edit does a good job at recording also!

The 1/8" tip will go to the back of your soundcard (in the area where your speakers are connected to). You will not have to take your case off. I use cool edit and I like it quite a bit. Once you've recorded, you can do wave editing in the program right afterwards.

Alright.....cool...I get what your saying but just making sure right now so that when I get everything setup I want have any questions then.

This is basically me puter

There are 3 inputs in the back of the tower:

Light Green - This is the speaker input (this is where I plug the 1/8 cable in) so basically, if everything is set right, when I have the tables plugged into this slot, I shouldn't be able to here sounds from my puter while recording.

Dark Green - This is my mic
Light Pink - This goes in to the back of the monitor

Will post again if I need help setting up Cool Edit to record......

which is better for recording mixes, Cool Edit or Sound Forge?

Just take a look at the back of your soundcard, each connection should be labelled with words. You will need proper light to read it, since it is hard without.

What you need:

1. RCA Audio Cable (I run this from the 'record out' on my mixer to the 'line-in' on my soundcard)
2. 1/8 Y RCA Adapter (Use this so you can connect from your mixer into the "line-in" on soundcard)
3. Recording Software (I use Soundforge)

Assuming you're using windows, under your master volume properties, make sure to have the line-in selected under recording.
