Will Tiesto's unreleased Southern Sun mix ever see light?

Oh no. Not another Southern Sun thread.

Anywho, what are the chances of Tiesto's unreleased mix ever finding its way onto vinyl? Or, to be even more general, do you think Southern Sun will have any more pressings than currently exist?

I'm thinking about buying the double-vinyl Southern Sun/Ready Steady Go that came out not too long ago, but only if I won't have another chance down the road. Some of the mixes on that release aren't really worth my money.

...and no complaints from the Southern Sun peanut gallery, please.

wooohoo could this be the first Southern Sun thread of the year?

I doubt that the DD mix will ever be remixed though. It's too dark, maybe Oakey will allow it in the future

i was under the impression this was made up by tiesto fans in denial that the remix of southern sun in full quality audi was actually not as good as it was hyped to be, if by DD you mean dutch dimension ie that rip everyoen wanked over ie the one that sound exactly like the release od SS in lo-fi.

Well, you're partially right, but the version played at Dutch Dimension was different in that the lyrical content was not the same as that of the released mix. I'm sure someone could tell you exactly how they're different but that someone is not me.

Yes, the Dutch Dimension rip had those dark lyrics uncharacteristical of typical cheesy uplifting vocal trance. But....Oakey changed the lyrics for some reason, thinking that it would improve the chances for the song making it to TRL or something.

It doesn't matter, Tiesto's remix is high quality regardless of the lyrics.

ahahaha how shit is this song now? i cant bear to hear this sooooo overplayed.

CLASSIC! peanut gallery, ROTFLOL!

hmm, that is weird, can someone explain why i have Paul Oakenfold feat. Carla Werner--Southern Sun (DJ Tisto Unreleased Remix).mp3 ???

Posted by Cobalt on Jan-22-2003 02:19:

Well I didn't mean for this thread to become another explaination of how the unreleased mix is different, but I've come to believe that the better quality and overall sound of the unreleased mix is not just a result of being played live or simply because of the lyrics. There's something else going on here in my opinion, although it could just be echo and pitching.

Not only are the alternate lyrics more meaningful and emotional, but the tone seems a bit different (Carla sang them at a different time, so I think this is just natural variation) and Tiesto obviously tweaked parts with effects to flow better with the music (like the end of "insanity" in "than to face the weight of this insanittyyyyy..." There are other examples.)

Even if there is no difference from the released version than the words, which I doubt, the alternate lyrics increase the quality of the track and I'd much rather have this on vinyl than the one currently pressed.

Which gets me back to my original question -- do you think they'll ever release it? (This is one of the most unfortunate disadvantages of using vinyl over CDs, I must say)

In addition to the liveset rips there are several reconstructions and splices floating around out there. I have two in addition to the Dutch rip.

dammit, i never knew it was a reconstruction. i always thought it was some 1337 release cuz it definitely doesn't sound like a reconstruct thanks for clearing it up

They're really seamless. The best one I have I know is a reconstruction because it was done by another TA, and the other has the regular "'cause it's easier to fly" refrain at the very end during the outro, indicating that it was the alternate mix spliced into the released version.

The unreleased "darker" version is on ISOS3, which is probably where the reconstructions came from, and sadly is probably the highest quality version of this song we will ever get. I doubt very much that it will ever be released on vinyl.

well your impression is wrong

like others have said there are reconstructions floating around, i have one and for all intents and purposes it sounds fine, if u wanted to be sneaky u could burn it and play that off cd

The ISOS3 version is NOT the dark one!

"Then the truth comes back around" - unreleased

vs

"And your love is all around" - new lyrics

Hmmmm why the fark were the lyrics changed ? Don't get me wrong, I like both versions, but the original lyrics have more emotion to them...

because it was more than just those lyrics that were changed, the whole "coz it's easier to drown" or whatever it was sounds alot more harsh to the general public than "it's easier to fly" does. or something to that effect.

TIESTO: This track is mindblowing! Let's keep it covered up and mysteriously drop it in sets to build anticipation until release! My mix will be the summer anthem!

OAKIE: Nah, I have a better idea. Let's tone down the lyrics, they're waaay too depressing, and change them to some uplifting happy garbage that doesn't flow with the melody. Then we'll hype the media with impunity before anyone even hears the song, and hope it becomes the next Castles In the Sky.

TIESTO: But...

OAKIE: Hello, I'm Oakenfold. I can do whatever the hell I want you Dutch maggot.

TIESTO: ::breaks a Bunkka CD in half and throws it at Paul in rage::

You're right, i'm sorry, it's just that there is not a real full rip of this, only the reconstructions were the original intro and outro were spliced into the ISOS3 version.

Ok, that's what I said in my original post. You had me thinking that I was going insane. I know it's not a full rip, I was saying that it will probably be as close as this track comes to a real release. Oh well, all clear now.
