What do you think of this tracklist?

A few weeks ago I made a post regarding my problems getting gigs, and all that...Read the thread if you wish to:

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...02&goto=newpost

Anyways...somebody told me to handle a mixcd over to the guy who books the DJ's or the manager, rather than me relying on them to download the mixes from my webpage...

I just wanted to know if you think this is a decent tracklist? (At least of the tracks that you recognize) (and also remember that these clubs/pubs which I have in mind are focusing on ordinary radio-pop, with some cheesy, more or less commercial "trance" in the late hours...I decided to leave the Britney and Aguliera tracks out, since there isn't much you can do with them, at least in mixing aspects...well...here goes:

1. ATB - You're not alone [Original]
2. Billy More - Loneliness [Ping-Pong Long Mix]
3. Alsou - Solo
4. Pulsedriver - Cambodia [Extended Vocal]
5. Foggy - Come into my dream [Pulsedriver]
6. MADRAS - Woodoorave [Pulsedriver vs. Rocco]
7. Vanni G - Everybody [Radio Edit]
8. Prezioso ft. Marvin - Somebody [Radio Edit]
9. Gabry Ponte - Time to Rock [Album Version]
10. DJ Boozy Woozy - Jumpin' around [Extended]
11. Jan Wayne - Only you [Radio Edit]
12. DJ Aligator - I like to move it
13. Nksi vs Brunner - Gyere velem [Trance Energy Club Mix]
14. Jan Wayne - Like a prayer [Extended Radio]
15. Scooter - Am Fenster [Short Edit]
16. Nksi vs Brunner - Nzz az g fel [Radio Cut]
17. Starsplash - Rainbow in the sky [Megara vs. DJ Lee]
18. Kai Tracid - Trance & Acid [Original]
19. Rhythm Gangsta - The crowd song [DONS Remix]

wurd

Appears to be pretty solid, I don't know a lot of them but the ATB and Foggy will rock in local clubs me thinks. If anything I would throw in a little more cheese, can't really hurt, people that know trance will make fun, but they won't be the one spinin' so F'them. And for the dancers, they want it to sound closer to the pop music they're used to.

Posted by Veldrid on Jan-22-2003 06:26:

Well for a demo CD this is too long. Most club owners etc are just gonna listen to the first few tracks and even tthen they will probally skip around a bit. Start off banging and rerally get there attention. I wouldn't throw in anymore cheese myself. Let these people experience a slightly different kind of music. With any luck they will like it and you can totally cut the cheese out of your sets.

wtf is that?

Posted by Arsalan on Jan-22-2003 10:17:

an Ian van dahl track would close the case here.

I think it's pefect for a radio-pop-eurodance-cheesy trance clubs/pubs. You could add Darude - Sandstrom or Alice DJ - Better off Alone.

lol looks like a tracklisting i threw on at a party a couple of days ago lol

nice selection

Foggy, starsplash, cambodia.. excellent tracks very pumping

gl with the show

although i would minus on the radio edits.. theres not enough to them...

but its up to you

You want me to be honnest??

Any self respecting DJ wouldn't play tracks by Boozy Woozy, Jan Wayne or Pulsedriver.

If you want cheese, then get good cheese from the likes of Johan Gielen or Green Court

A hungarian trance/dance act...They are very huge...I don't know if you've heard the English version of "Gyere velem" which is also featured on this mix...The English version sounds so lame, so I decided to go with the hungarian...9 out of 10 people doesn't understand a word out of In-Grid or Kate Ryan either, but a lot of ppl like 'em...Why shouldn't they like "Nksi vs. Brunner"? "Nzz az g fel" has those silimar drums from "Cosmic Gate - The Wave"...Nice track...

Agreed with the first, but not so sure about the second. If they hire you, perhaps they did so on account of the cheese, or the "variety" in your demo set. Maybe you should keep the cheese when you start out, then slowly ease out of it as you spin more there, and the clubbers/owners get used to your style.

As per Veldrid's recommendation, I would definitely put in some "smarter" trance in the demo set, perhaps near the end, for the promoter's/owners to get a taste of the "real deal"... it might be worthwhile, and in any case it can't hurt - if they listen that far, then it's gotta be good!

On the other hand, if the demo is mostly cheese, and you start spinning real trance, you might get a "wtf is this" negative reaction. Slow is best.

Good luck!

screw you

pulsedriver is awesome.. you have no right to say that.. obviously you are not a respected dj because you shame down on other producers.. i play pulsedriver tracks all the time.. pulsedriver has been producing for ages.. probably before your ass was born. sure his sound has changed alot.. but he creates very epicy fun music.. all music isnt suppose to be serious .. get real... club trance is a genre.. if you dont like it.. leave

I totally agree with you , Boozy Woozy come one the guy is just looking for fame, in less then a year you won't hear from him.

I'm sorry what is darude doing ?

Posted by mikefasssy on Jan-24-2003 08:24:

Boozy Woozy produce for along time also. Check out stuff under Catalana, Cooper, Da Klubb Kings, Greenfield, Klubb Kings, Klubbheads, Tone Selector, Ultimate Seduction. It is what buddy said, Club Trance, it may be different from what you like, but don't hate for that reason.

I found in this list just one good song - Kai Tracid - Trance & acid..

dude, have you read his post? do you see what his position is? you expect him to start playing john '00' flemming or MIKE? he'd get booed out of the place.

if you're in an environment where a certain type of music is preferred, you better cater to that music - at least until you can *slooooowly* win them over to your side (and euro/cheese -> trance is not that hard of a transition, considering the similarities)

EDIT:

"Progressive Priest" - that explains a lot, then... lol

Posted by Scorchio on Jan-24-2003 16:26:

Hehehe
well you are right, and I can tell you from expereicne that crowds like cheese.
But come on... this is too much, at least throw some quality remixes in there, such as Ian Van Dahl - Try [Michal Woods Remix]
or Lasgo - Alone [Hiver And Hammer Remix]
Remixes that preserves the vocals the crowd likes and also have some quality trancey touch.
Anyway man goodluck.

the tracklist looks solid!

I strongly agree with this! Like I mentioned before, it would be great to put in some quality tracks near the end, so that the producer(s)/owner(s) at least have some inkling of what to expect.

Otherwise, having cheese on a demo and non-cheese in a set is awkward.

Posted by CrackedLcd on Jan-26-2003 08:11:

a bit cheesy....but if that what it takes to get a gig where your @ so be it....I spin atb - your're not alone....I think it a good tune, but over half the set is cheese...If thats what you like to spin more power to you....

It ain't even the Derb mix though!!!

No offence personally, but it looks like a tracklist from
the "One dollar or Less" vinyl section.

lol...
Anyway...Derb is one of my favorite producers and I love his remixes more than anything, but his remix of Trance and Acid just doesn't appeal to me...I dunno why but I like the original version better...He's remix of Kai's new hit "4 just 1 day" just blows my mind away...that one is f*cking bangin'...Although it's a bit roung for this kinda demo...

Posted by Greedy on Jan-30-2003 06:14:

the tracklisting is alright, although a bit long. I wouldnt take all of the criticizm from others about the the cheezy tracks you got to heart. I dont think there is anything wrong with playing cheeze occasionally . . . youre trying to spin for regular party goers, not trance addicts. My only criticism is why you put crowd song last, and not somewhere near the beginning. That track is pumping, maybe im not familliar with the DONS remix . . . /me checks record.

good luck
