Damn!
You've got some flash skills, my friend, I might actually hire you to do a couple of jobs for me

Anyway, what is the font that you've used in that design? Anyway you can hook me up with that?

Posted by Trancewave on Jan-25-2003 10:24:

wow, very nice. How long did it took you to do that in flash? Because I'm learning flash and it's taking me forever.

Posted by mot10n on Jan-25-2003 19:52:

Thumbs up

damn, very very slick. i have no idea how people can make such sick things with flash, i find it to be very tedious and monotonous... but maybe that's because i haven't fooled around with it enough.

anyways, mad props, very cool!

Posted by quddha on Jan-25-2003 21:58:

thanks guys. the two fonts used on my site are arial black, and hooge05_53 which can be downloaded for free at www.miniml.com

a hint on using pixel fonts, always make sure they start on a full pixel co-ordinate, ie 100,150, instead of 100.3,150.7 to make sure they stay sharp and not blurred and anti-aliased.

the site took me 3 days last week when I was bored, and wanted to do something cool with my site. I learned flash myself over the summer, including some of the basic actionscripting. cuz I was stuck in st.catharines and bored out of my mind. I'm one of those guys that gets almost obsessive when I really want to learn something new.

I actually do want to get a job doing web design, but I have no actual formal education in the field, just everything is self taught.

Posted by Crazy Serb on Jan-25-2003 22:25:

Thanx for those fonts bro...

Thanks for the tips. Do you find it easier to learn from reading books or doing online tutorials like from flashkit? I mostly use books simply because I like to have some printed material and don't like staring on my screen. Flash seems easy enough but it does take a while to make something good. I'm not too creative and often have to browse sites for ideas.

Great job with your site. It's inspiring for me to fiddle around with flash again. Haven't done it in a while. I've been planning to build a music site now for quite some time.

i remember checkin it out about a couple of months ago .. gotta love the layout and all..

btw. check out my old Flash site : http://www.recessity.com

don't mind the outdatedness of the design it is about 3 years old !!

I don't have any books, I learend it all from the internet. Flashkit is a good resource, actionscript.org, ultrashock.com... You wont' believe how much actionscript goes into making that damn scrollbar. Hehe. I had a frustrating time learning how to do that and other basic actionscripting, but I'm a quick learner Alot of trial and error for me.

As for inspiration, I get alot from the design community. check out www.designiskinky.net. One of my fav sites, they post updates of cool sites in their news section. I like their style. www.gmunk.com, one of the most influential designers in the field. www.2advanced.com, the most ripped off site in the world. So much good stuff out there if you know where to look.

the second one is a dragonball z animation i made, there is a cheesy ending that was specific to my computer teacher.

Well, you definately know the technical aspects of flash, and thats the most tedious part. The other half is just design/artistic instinct, and I've always been straight A's in art. So that helps alot.

Hey, how did u get the blur effect going on the dbz characters?

Posted by Porky on Jan-27-2003 09:38:

Party Hat wow

jim...

u got mad skills...
was listening to your 'ferocious' .. solid first attempts! keep the love going!

(aka DevanteS on AA)

To get the blur effect i imported the pictures into Photoshop and applied a blur filter to them, so i had two different instances, one was the normal picture then the moving picture was the blurred.
