Shure Needle Problem
I just purchased a pair of Shure M44-7's and they work great. The only problem I have is when I play songs with vocals in it..when the vocals kick in..it gets staticky and distorted. Everything else sounds great, but only when vocals kick in. I dunno if its my speakers or my mixer that is causing this, but any of you with shure needles please reply.
Thanx
I've had my M44-7's for quite some time now. Maybe about 6 months, and they still give out mint sound. At first, when I was making money, I would buy new replacements every month, but now that I don't have money I just keep on keepin' on. These are stellar needles, and I've never experienced an almight ORTOFON, but I've been told these SHURE's are better. Anyways, to answer your question, it's prolly your vinyl, or speaker, or mixer, etc...I've never had any problems with my vocal songs. I was just playing Yet Another Day the other day and the vocals, recorded, are amazing. What kind of equipment do you have????
Peace,
Steve
I have two techs, a djm300, and I use my AIWA home speaker system with a sony sub. Its probably the vinyl that is badly pressed speakers, cause other songs sound really good with these needles.
By the way, what is your height and tracking force on those needles. I have the height at 4.5 and tracking force around 2.3 grams.
WOW, my height is at 1, and my weight is at 3! I also have TT's. Umm...you're prolly right about the vinyl being pressed bad, cause there are some bad apples in every bunch. Its fk'd up, but its life. Thats strange that my height is so much different then yours. Reply with you thoughts.
Peace,
Steve
mm..according to the directions that came with the needles...it tells you to set the tone arm height 4-5
...interesting that you're getting distortions on the highs.
I had the exact opposite problem when I was setting up my tonearms for the first time - lots of distortion when there was bass (I have SC35Cs).
I now use tonearm height 5, 3.5 grams force, anti-skate zero.
