Posted by malek on Jan-26-2003 20:59:

my friend was in ottawa, and they wanted 25$ at the door, damn lame. wasn't it 15$ b4 midnight and 20$ after?

Posted by kidsl on Jan-26-2003 22:40:

I'm pretty sure the price wasn't upped!

Posted by alec on Jan-26-2003 23:15:

MAn what a night! John 00 rocked Surface. The price was 15$ before and 20 after! He played for 3 hours and it was Prog and then Trance towards the end. I was resting upstairs, when I heard Energy 52 come on, and I rushed back down for an amazing song. Capetown pitstop was also unbeleivable. and Synisthasea (sp?) was unbeleivable! My arms are aching from all the arm pumping from last night and the night before at Sander! Truly it was better than Sander and I enjoyed his track selection better than Tiestos, but I like Trance so, I'm biased. 9/10 for an amazing night. Will post a pic Wednesday or Thursday, probably Thursday! there were like at least 9 TA's there as well. ACA 2000 (Nick), Mr Mo, Karim (NRG2infinit), Chris (Siefer 17) Disco Joe,Shawn (assasin), and I never got the other guys name.
OTTAWA FORUM NEEDED TAHA

KIDS sl who are you anyways, I never saw you,/ you never said hi? what did you look like? I was the guy with the AREA 2 shirt.

Posted by kidsl on Jan-26-2003 23:27:

uh.. i was wearing a green cutoff shirt with a beige tuque..

i didn't know what anyone looked like!

Posted by Assassin on Jan-27-2003 00:56:

I had a great time last night, better than I expected. JOOF looked like he enjoyed himself from beginning to end. I asked him what the last track he played was but I dont think he heard me, or I couldnt hear him but anyway I think it was Andy B. - Imagination (Instrumental Mix). Im not sure, but did he play 2nd Area - Cry For Love (Desertet Instrumental Mix)? The only other ones I recognized was Cape Town - Pitstop, Sasha vs. Junkie XL - Beauty Never Fades, and of course Cafe Del Mar.

Ottawa definetly needs more trance DJs at Surface.

ahhhh.....t'was a great night I must say. Al and I got there pretty early and just relaxed. then we met up with shaun and stood around with ryan dunlop in the warm up room. He was explaining to us how easy it was to mix and stuff..I lost my bus pass...THEN we got to the main room where I heard my kinda music.. RAISSA WAS SO HOT!!! GEEZ I'm still thinking about her! (she was the proggy DJ at the start in the main room before scaife). She played just the stuff that I love, just like sander played in montreal. Scaife played very good aswell..I loved Rui Da Silva - Feel The Love. I got a bit tired because I hadn't really had a good enough sleep from the night before (sander K). I was about to fall asleep but some girl just came upto me and just poured water down my back! THAT WOKE ME UP! Alec was having a great time, yellin to me "THIS IS MY KINDA SHIT!" every once in a while, and tapping my shoulder while he worked his joints, pumpin to the music..I could see he like it a lot more than sander...but I felt that sander was better. I got j00fs sig. and Raissa's aswell. Alec kept callin me a stalker when I would talk about her. SO WHAT MAN, SHES A FINE WOMAN, WITH SOME FINE SKILLS, AND A FINNNNE TASTE OF MUSIC. Anyway, I just loved Cape Town - Pitstop and now I know how dark he playes..James Holden Solstice was so crazy darkish...I really think that I will look like shit in the pic. but what the hey..I'm dieting! it was nice meeting all of you TA's..hope to see you again sometime

Next party Ferry...gotta get my gouryella vinyl signed!

I definately agree with that.. all the trance djs either play at raves or illusions tho.. thats the problem.. surface is well known for being a prog club

What a night, I must say. My home town actually showed me that it can rock the place. I always thought it took getting in the car and driving for a few hours to Montreal or Toronto to party like that. It was really cool enjoying the night with all kinds of familiar faces around me. Going to Aria is always a blast with all the big names that it brings in but it's not the same when almost everyone in the crowd is a complete stranger. It was nice meeting up with alec and all his buddies. I told you like 4 times alec, my name is Ryan. lol. Anyways, as everyone said, JOOF was excellent, especially when Pitstop came down, reminded me of Armin's set last summer. Surface really impressed me too, it wasn't too packed and the crowd really showed it's energy! Hopefully Surface can work on a few more good Trance DJ's in the near future.

Posted by discojoe on Jan-27-2003 03:32:

Ya I was so impressed! I love the club. I mean I really dont think it gets the credit it deserves. Everyone compairs it to Atomic and i dont think thats really fair. It has an incredible vibe a sound setup with bite and from what I saw last night a great lively crowd. Its also nice to see an electronic room pumping and an urban room dead once and a while

Also regarding trance in ottawa, Ottawa is definitely a progressive town. Where you'd see techno warmup djs in Montreal, huge jungle and dnb parties in toronto, Ottawa right now loves its prog house. At times I really like progressive house but I just wasnt digging it last night. It was just too bland for me. I did like how the last warmup dj gradually led into Flemmings set getting harder and harder. he did a good job.

Flemming was good, he had the crowd by the balls as much as any top dj iv ever seen. Minor complaints being the rather mature track selection and while im not one to critique technical skills, he did just 'drop' alot of tracks.

Either way now that I know how great of a club surface is I think im going to find myself comming back more often. great job kidsl props to you and your club.

and the push track before cape town pitstop I think is john 00 flemming vs push - Ice cream (which had everyone going)

and malek I paid $20 at the door after midnight..

yep M.I.K.E. vs John '00' Flemming - Ice Cream (M.I.K.E. Mix)

Posted by kidsl on Jan-27-2003 04:13:

thanks for all the great reviews guys..

hey $$SIEFER17 - Did you get your bus pass back ? Cause I know we found one.

Posted by ACA2000 on Jan-27-2003 05:01:

What a blast!!!
Nights like this and Community a few months back gives hope to the Ottawa trance scene. It's obvious that people enjoy it and will come out and support it so why not bring in more trance dj's???

As for the night I saw a lot of people that I hadn't seen in a long time and I don't think I saw anyone looking bored or tired last night. Everybody was into it. The dance floor was going crazy.

Malek, it even said on xvi and on the flyers that it was $15 before midnight and $20 after so it's weird that your buddies would get asked to pay $25. That could be the cover girl trying to pocket some cash.

Posted by kidsl on Jan-27-2003 05:06:

I checked with the management.. We never charged more then $20 plus coat check all night..

Posted by malek on Jan-27-2003 05:25:

i'm not trying to make any trouble here the guy who went is a really close friend of mine, he wouldn't invent stuff about this. Happy you guys had fun, if I had still my car, I would've drove up to check J00F again, he really rocked the place friday!

lol shit thats crazy.. ottawa is corrupt like this hehe

Pure madness tho when he dropped del mar.. i would still say his set in montreal may have been better.. i personally like the atmosphere in montreal better

Ottawas trance scene needs to grow and mature i hope we are heading in that direction

Posted by malek on Jan-27-2003 23:40:

well my friend was back from Ottawa today and we talked about it and he told me its 20$?!?!???!!?!?! i was like huh? dude you told me 25$ he said no, i told him you were fucking drunk hehehehe the bastard. sorry for the mess up!

Posted by Mike_B on Jan-28-2003 00:40:

wow sounds like you guys had a blast, im glad this night worked out and hope to see more ottawa trance nights in the futur. Too bad i missed it, then again i saw him in mtl with bonus Marco V that i realy realy couldn't miss. But if it was anything like the last time he was there i bet it was awsome.
