Anyone here know about wireless headphones?
Okay, now this might sound like a crazy idea, but hell, I'd like to find out.
I had this idea of throwing "silent parties", basically a party where everyone is wearing their own wireless headphones, all listening to the DJ. What would I have to do/purchase to accomplish this? Would I need a wireless receiver for each headphone, or is there a receiver that can handle x amount of headphones?
Anyone?

i have no information but that idea is messed up.
Haven't heard about it no...but it might be able to be done?...probably involving all of the headsets to be tuned in on the same frequency.
Silent parties though?... a large sound system isn't just good for the ears..but its mad feeling the deep bass inside you as well.. wouldn't be the same
you got that idea from ishkur.com
i read something a little while back about what the guy's ideas were for parties, and that was one of em. or it is one damn huge coinsidence(sp?)
neway, to do that, you'd have to have a radio transmitter of some sort, and a bunch of those cheap, five dollar, pocket radios. you'd have to hand out the radios, or sell em...instead of an admission fee at the door, you'd pay for the radio. (they're cheap little things if ya ever seen one. they literally dont cost more than 5 bucks)
then, you would have to tell everyone what frequency to turn to...and you'd be set.
unfortunately, as ingenious of an idea as this sounds...in the big picture, it is incredibly stupid

DUDE!! i had this idea too! and i didn't see it anywhere else either.
it would be cool, if all the people in the party wore headphones, because they would all hear exactly what the DJ is hearing! there would be no delay or echo, and the stereo FX would sound wicked.
in fact, in my idea, i thought it would be cool if you could have a switch on your cans that alllowed you to hear, either the live sound, OR the cued stuff, so you could listen to the DJ cue up records and mix em in if you wanted to.
i think this would rock, but i think you'd need to have some sound in the room, at least the bass anyway, it's partly the feeling of the subs that makes it so good. also, it would be weird to take off your headphones and hear nothing, with everyone going off.
i even further extrapolate the idea that on top of each headphone could be an infrared transmitter and reciever that would somehow read your mind and transfer the thoughts to whoever you wanted. obviously impossible, but maybe text messages could be sent?
anyway, just a daydream i had, but i think it would be wicked.

that is some crazy idea mate!
Dunno if it works, and I dunno anything about wireless headphones, but for a rave I do recommend you still have some sort of a subwoofer or something that can provide a "rumble", otherwise I think it will lack something. Looks cool though!
Cheers!

Thanks all for the lovely (and unlovely) comments. No, I did not take the idea from someone else, it was actually an idea that popped into my mind Saturday night. A group of us were all hanging out at a friend's apartment and I thought the idea would be rather interesting. I thought it might be a nice idea since it would cut out on the cops coming over all the time from people complaining about loud noise. The idea was intended for parties under 20 people, maybe 30 max.
That is a good point about the bass. But what if you had some wireless headphones that gave out very good bass response? I mean there are some out there.
Thanks for the comments everyone. Maybe someone has something else to add?

DJ Cronos, nice name heheh.
Wireless headphones are generally pretty expensive. And when I say that, I mean around $150.00 CND and up.
I dont know how you could possibly connect all 20-30 headphones to recieve the same source either.. maybe it's possible, I don't know cause I've never tried it

lol, yeah, i thought he was you! (dj crono)
anyway, i think you could do it with wireless headphones right outta the box. they are probably all set to use the same frequency, either that or adjustable.
but, as has been said, you'd definitely need a sub to feel the thump, and that's the part that annoys the neighbours anyway.
and, IT IS NOT A CHEESY SONG!!
actully...now that i think about it more, it does sound like a pretty cool idea. (mostly cuz of the ablility to hear what the dj is cueing up. cant do that on a big system untill the dj starts playin the track live anyway)
if its with wireless headphones, the biggest problem is money to buy all of em. but once you did, it would be easy to do the rest. hook one transmitter to the live sound, hook one up to the dj's headphones (which would be wireless)hook a sub up to the soundsystem, and disconnect the rest of the speakers. tell everyone which frequencys to turn to for either the dj or live sound, and your done!
as for the price of this, the average cost of wireless headphones is like $100 USD at retail. so it would be around $3000(if ya only wanted a party with 30 people), but you could probably buy wholesale (i think im usin the word correctly) and save some $$$
I just know one thing and that's NOT to use them...
The headphone amp in most mixers will BLOW away the Radio Control garbage. Batteries don't give me the confidence of a plug in the wall.
Would like to see someone with those,
