-- Keanu saves the Matrix

Love Poundin' Sensation Keanu saves the Matrix

quote:

Generous actor Keanu Reeves has sacrificed a massive $38 million to prevent the two new Matrix films being scrapped.

The Speed hunk gave up his claim to a cut of the films' ticket sales when producers began fearing the box office would not cover the costs of making the special effects-laden flicks.

The gesture is one of the most generous ever in Hollywood and has stunned studio bosses.

A Warner Brothers insider says, "The special effects in the new movie are beyond belief - but hugely expensive."

"There was a real danger the projects would be scrapped until Keanu offered to sign away his cut. He has kissed goodbye to a huge sum of money."

Keanu was paid $10 million for the first Matrix movie in 1999 and picked up a further $35 million as his cut of worldwide box office sales.

Everybody say with me : Thank you Keanu!!!

i seriously doubt this is true..... The Matrix sequels are so highly anticipated i would think that when reloaded comes out it should top spiderman's box office take.

these two sequels are probably goign to be some of hte highest grossing films in 2003.

I don't believe this.

i can guarantee u guys that matrix 2 will have the highest box office income in movie history

Sounds a bit fishy to me.

Posted by zarathustra on Jan-30-2003 21:52:

Sounds like BS to me. I don't think Warner Bros. would consider money for those films especially considering how much they sunk in a piece of shit like "Pluto Nash."

True or false, I can't wait to see these films.

Posted by Spad on Jan-30-2003 22:18:

I don't think it's the takings that are the issue, it's the fact the special effects are so expensive the takings wouldn't cover the cost of the film.

If it's true, nice one Keanu!

yea that story is horse shit..35 million is nothing compared to the amount of money those 2 movies will bring in.

i also cant wait to see freddy vs. jason..werent they supposed to make an Alien vs. Predetor movie too??

Posted by infinity HiGH on Jan-31-2003 08:06:

whatever the special effects cost them, the first sequel will make mroe than double that, so I don't understand why Keanu would give away his 35 mill.

Did anyone see Keanu get something from a bin a few months back in the papers ?

The Matrix movies will maybe even beat the lord of The Ring ones as theres been such a long wait between the 1st and the 2nd !

I cant wait for them !

That probably won't happen because these movies will probably be rated R, so those 12 year old kids can buy tickets for some other crappy movie and watch.

As for Keanu, doesn't he still get a portion of the Box Office earnings? which should still be a whole lot

Posted by jinxed84 on Feb-01-2003 01:51:

hmm interesting...i know the movies are expensive to make though, i read $300million somewhere. i think spiderman only grossed around $400m. i could be wrong. i dont think the matrix will have a problem turning a LARGE profit. that movie is gonna be insanely popular

You got to be kidding !
Why an earth would you want to see this one considering that James Cameron, Edward Furlong and Linda Hamilton are all out of action ?

Posted by DJ_Skaya on Feb-02-2003 17:10:

That's very cool of him. If this story is real, I hope it reaches the public so they can all applaud him.

Ehh, I could do without Furlong (or Hamilton, for that matter).
