Exclamation Inkjet trouble

I just got a brand new Tri-Color inkjet for my HP Deskjet 840C.But the printer refuses to read it!The light for no ink left just keeps flashing.I tried taking it out and putting it in,didn't help.I just took the jet ouf ot he package,removed the green tape,and inserted it the normal way.But it still won't read it!Anyone know what's up?

Sounds like a ghetto inkcartridge, if it is an official one take it back and change it, if its a unbranded one, well they carry risks
