Exclamation Some PS2 Questions

alright...i've searched and searched and searched...i need answer to these questions...some may sound stupid...but jus hear me out...

1.)Is there a problem with the blue discs?...i mean everytime i play one, they hum...u hear a hummin goin on...i've tested em on my friends and my gfs...the blue discs hum...is that a prob?

2.)Does playin DVDs screw up the laser?...i heard a rumor that it did...my cousin tried playin Virtua Fighter 4 (Blue Disc) and it wouldnt load...read "disc error"...i popped it into mine when i got home and it worked fine...he plays alot of DVDs...its basically a DVD player considerin he doesnt play it much beside watchin movies...

3.)STUPID QUESTION...whats the diff between the blue discs and the non-blue discs?...jus wonderin...

4.)Under the PlayStation option...it says somethin bout Texture Mapping: Standard or Smooth...wtf is it?...LMAo...

obviously i'm not a very technically smart person...but i'm jus wonderin...any help would be great...thankx in advance!!!

1)Never had a problem with blue discs but I've never really listened closely to the noise it makes.

2)Well, since most PS2 games are dvds, I can't see how DvDs could damage the laser... it's meant to read dvds...

3)The blue discs are cds while the non-blue ones are dvds.

4)Go with smooth. It'll make those primitive textures in PSone games look somewhat better/smoother... useless unless you're using PSone games. Standard just leaves it PSone style...

Do you have a PS2 that came out during the first shipment on the day it released? If so, those PS2s had problems with their lenses deteriating.

1)There is no problem with the disc or your ps2. You only need to be concerned if the hum turns into a chainsaw like sound.
2)I heard DVD movies can screw it up, but I dunno how true it is.
3)Blue are cd's, silver are dvd's
4)It's for when you play psx games, putting it on smooth is supposed to make 3d graphics look better, but I dont really notice anything.

1. I doubt theres a problem since a lot of PS2 games are blue discs. It's probably just a sound u have to get used to.

2. Maybe he doesn't have a modchip, maybe his gameshark (either chip or cd) is damaged, maybe his ps2 is one of the screwed up ones from the factory, maybe it was overheated.

By gameshark I don't mean cheating. Most modchips require a gameshark to bootup backup copies of games. The new ones which are around $200 near me (last time I checked) will boot up PS2 games without a gameshark which saves a lot of hastle but are expensive (at 2/3's the price of a PS2) but my bro has one and it's definately worth it. Anyways back to what I was saying, I guess if he has a modchip then he has a newer one or doesn't have one at all since you say he has no gameshark. All that leaves is that his PS2 is fucked up straight out of the factory, from overheating, from something else he's done to it or maybe his PS2 is PAL or something I can't think of much else. Don't mind my useless response I'm drunk lol

LOL I cant see that happening as all PS2 Games are DVD's

dont worry about it too much.

even one of my friends with the first run of the system thot hit shit got fucked. all you need to do is get a DVD cleaner. the ps2 for some reason likes to give error messages after about 10 hours of use. youre supposed to clean dvd players every 10 hours, and with a game system a running time like that pops up in no time. cleaning takes 1 min pretty much and youll be good for awhile until it starts fucking up again. note: you dont need to do this every 10 hours tho. i run mine for prolly 3 times that long before the discs start bitching at me. good luck-
