THis is fucked up

Person on the EMC is selling cds he makes from mp3/divx what ever i personaly think that is realy fucked up. I mean to listen and play is hard enough on the industry now this? Here is my following coversation except i need promotion
i had about 15 orders already
got like _400 off it
hook me up with some customers
well if u open an anonymous web site i'm sure you could get away with it
thats fucked dude
and they buy like 10 CDs each month at least
selling music that you yourself have no rights too?
i can hook people up with a web address
or e-mail.. if you have one
haha
oh please frost
well djs need music
oh please thats fucked
they can't get it, i hook them up
you're just helping them...
i have a hotline server
you guys know hotline?
why cant they connect to the net and dl them selves?
you need to write on CDRs that they are 'promotional only' and all the charges are just to cover cost
people do it here all the time
its fucked up. making money off someone elses losss?
like i told you.. they have no idea about web address. ..they can't read english
*** Search spam detected from Light-Force
they could learn 5 words
they don't know track names and anything.. they're playing gouryella and you go and speak to them they'd have no idea what you're talking about.. "gor yell what?!?!"
cause
soul seek
they don't have time
or don't know how
then they dont want the music that badly
hmm i just need people to know my lists
and my email
that's all
not really.. if you think about it.. they are playing tunes.. to promote these artists in a way..
the artists may lose sales for a dj but he's gaining recognition to hundreds of people
how
none of the money goes to the artist?
im just against selling cds made from mp3s
thats fucked up
ok i can sell audio cds
they'll just have to pay more

haha
of course
don't do that in opoen
i'm just talking online, not in a store
ok.. how much you're gonna sell these cds for?
i already do
_5/cd
i just got _42 for 7 CDs to ship to Australia

I personaly believe he should be removed from the hub.

Posted by capricorn15 on Feb-04-2003 08:22:

and downloading mp3s doesnt hurt the industry?

Posted by rock_roll18 on Feb-04-2003 08:26:

Hmm

Yeah,
I had the pleasure of talking to him in the hub today.
He was rather arrogant about sharing for some odd reason
I second his removal from the Hub

im sure it does thats one thing. To dl them then sell them thats a whole new league of criminal activity. Look it at like this possesion of drugs vs dealing drugs.

i guess you can look at it that way, but possession of drugs: are the big drug dealers losing money: no

but i dont know, i dont agree with selling them (cds), but people do it, and like drug dealers, cannot be 100% stopped. People in tranceaddict do this as well i am sure. but as long as i support the artists myself, i dont really care what other people do

Posted by Freefall on Feb-04-2003 08:59:

Similar thing going on with KFC Networks that sells a 128kbps CD of a load of radio sets broadcast during the year with some twat talking over the top.

Biggest waste of money I've ever spent. and surely pushing the boundaries of legality.

yeah but i hate to see fellow TA's do this ... look how much respect we get from all the artist.

Posted by Archon810 on Feb-04-2003 09:28:

frost and rock_roll, you need to chill. Some people have different opinions and everyone is entitled to his/her own. People who can't get stuff online won't ever get it (because of 56k or whatnot) and i'm not going to send them CDs in the mail just cause I like them, and neither will you.

As to being reluctant to sharing, as rock_roll mentioned, then if i'm not sharing, i don't know who is. With 300 GB shared, I'm at the top of EMC list. Why don't you get some files first and some hd space and then talk about sharing. That's where my money goes anyway, hd and connection.

Comments? please post here.

That is correct. If it weren't for downloading mp3s, I would still be one of those people who thinks trance is "techno", and I would have never bought a single thing from any trance artist. I guarentee you there are another few thousand members of this forum that could tell you the same thing.

mp3s = exposure = interest = purchases = profits

One might go so far as to say that downloading mp3s helps the industry. Unless of course you're referring to pop, which already has all the exposure it needs.

Posted by Djeebie on Feb-04-2003 09:49:

Downloading mp3 doesn't necessarily have to harm the music industry, as long as you buy the music you like. I mean because of mp3 I saved myself from spending money on useless cd's, but I also saved myself from not buying the quality cd's.

There is nothing wrong with downloading in itself, but it's a whole different thing when it comes to burning mp3's on cd and selling them. That's absolutely illegal and wrong to do. Luckily there are a lot of people who do the same thing as me; downloading and then buy the music when you like it.

the problem with downloading mp3s, most people dont buy the music they like, they just burn it on cd and dont even think twice. There is a problem with downloading. Mp3 files i think were meant for preview only and i think by law must be deleted within 24 hours. It is illegal to keep it on your hard drive for more than 24 hours (and that doesnt mean burn it off your hard drive and keep it). Sure i am guilty of downloading and not buying from all the artists, but i do support some of the artists. But like i said, most people who like it dont end up buying it.

i know if it werent for mp3s, i wouldnt know trance either, except for probably dj sammy and alice deejay and atb. But there is a small percent of people who follow the whole analogy that you put. YEs, of course everyone who downloads will have certain artists they are interested in, but they wont purchase it. Its like, why buy it when i can get it for free.

I'm afraid you're right to a certain extent. But there are lots of people who buy the music after they downloaded a track/album. And that's a good thing. I think age also has a role in this whole issue. The younger you are, the less money you make, the more you'll download and burn (and even might sell). If you're becoming older you won't have a money problem anymore and therefore it's easier to buy the music. At least it works for me this way... I'd rather have the original cd than a copied one.

You got something against doboy? Then we should remove Tiesto's ISOS sets from stores as well. It's not his work, just other people's songs put together in a mix...

Who is DJ Doboy?

[EDIT]Found his website... Yeah, let's remove Tisto's ISOS series Tisto licensed the tracks in case you didn't know. That's what happens with all mix compilations, they license the tracks. They pay money for the tracks so they can put them on the compilation. Did DJ Doboy do that? I quote from his website: "these mixes are done as a hobby so anything i make from the donations or sales of my cds goes into either more records, savings for more dj equipment, or those shots of volka i had this past weekend
#3. support the original artist by buying their singles either on cd singles or 12" vinyls.
Go DJ Doboy [/EDIT]

well if the dude is making (or $$$) just from burning the cd's this is totaly wrong, if hes just charging to cover the costs of the cd's and postage then its not as bad, but if hes making even 1 cent in profit then its wrong

And why do most people end up not buying the tracks they've downloaded? Because:
1) Most trance is only released as vinyls.
2) Most trance is incredeibly hard to find and even if you happen to find your favourite track on CD the shipping is going to cost you more than the CD itself.

Oh, and that 24 hour rule is a lie. There is no such thing... well, not in Finland anyway. 'Round here it is only illegal to share your mp3s, not having them or downloading them.

u r indeed the dumbass

he licenses the tracks.. this means he buys the right to put them on a cd, and also anyone who buys this cd will be putting money in the artist's pocket, as well as tiesto.

back on topic, yes this is fucked up.. if these ppl he is selling them to are dj's, then whats wrong with record shops..? even if u live in a country where there isnt a record shop for miles theres still plenty of very good online record stores.. + all the labels usually have an online store.

unfortunately, i dont live in finland, i live in the usa, i am pretty sure that is a rule, but not certain. about the shipping, i dont think that is a good excuse for not supporting artists, there are many local record shops that i can get trance records at, which i do now, since shipping is a lot. you dont have ot order from the internet, althoguh sometiems it is necessary

Posted by CynepMeH on Feb-04-2003 14:09:

Hm....

I guess I am just as guilty as everyone else of downloading MP3's but I don't sell them, that's for sure. So, what's worse - selling them or downloading them? This is all qualifies as theft.

Although, I must admit - I do feel ripped off buying Global Underground Oakenfold in Oslo CD -it reaked and it was 100% legit. If I could return the shite that sits on my shelves for at least 1/3 of what I paid, I could easily have a nice downpayment for a Porsche 911 turbo.... Hell, when someone asked me before "Do you invest" I would say, "Certainly - in CDs" and they'd be like "OH... wow". Little did they know that it was not Certificate of Deposits but Compact Discs...hehehe

So, in a way - MP3s have paved the way for better music buying experience. I am totally happy with having a choice in what songs I have in my collection, that's why if the industry smartened up and made it possible to buy "Guns and Roses - Welcome to the Jungle" as a single track instead of buying a CD with 14 other songs you don't care for - it would have made a big difference. They are just getting to that point now. Anyway, do I think selling MP3 cds is right??? NO, but am I guilty of downloading MP3's??? Yes...

Fellas, every minute the sucker is born - if you don't take advantage of him, someone else will. This is a pure and simple concept on which the capitalism runs. Someone is just cheekier than you to pull it off. So, he's a wanker - we know that... but without wankers no one would appreciate decency, right???

By the way - you think this is bad??? Go to NYC brighton beach and visit any of the russian music/video stores. About 20 of them in a stretch of less than 1/2 of mile - each peddling 90% of bootleg/illegal music and videos. And this is a business that pays taxes, has a physical address, and several employees. Shelves and shelves of CDs, tapes, Videos, DVDs of copyrighted stuff selling for about 1/2 to 1/4 of original price...

So....

Posted by CynepMeH on Feb-04-2003 14:32:

One more log to throw into the fire...

Before we start - I am a 100% trance addict. I love trance/electronic music and I'm not bashing anyone. But here's my question...

Doesn't it seem like lately, trance tunes have a half-life of sushi in a hot, humid sun??? I hate to use this analogy but to me, lately trance has become like porn - you seen it once, twice, three times and then it's like "Bleh, move on". What I am saying is that after you get over the initial "excitement" (ahem ) you start looking for "quality" - not just any track will do...

So, basically finding a perfect tune worth keeping/paying for becomes harder and harder. Seriously, just like porn - think of your initial reaction to just seing a boobie and then think about it now.. It's like, eh - seen it before nothing interesting. So, trance is the same way.

I am guilty of downloading live sets and now I have a big dillema - if I go to the store to buy a legitimate CD, I look at it and say - damn, I heard all these tracks, they are soooooo old.. without realizing that most of the people who are not following the scene don't even have a slightest clue! I see commercials on tv that make me cringe, MTV's fucking adverts for "Now, this is what I call music" series... Christ, I am waiting for some SNL skit that would make joke of that advert and say MTV's latest compilation "This is what I call shit".

I guess we are spoiled by the ease and availability of music to us and it becomes harder to appreciate it.

I hate to rant on, but stick around for a sec:

I remember when it took me weeks to find the CD I wanted and then it only had 1 ! song on it that I liked and I still enjoyed it and wore it out for months. Now, I download the set - burn it, listen to it for a week, two, three tops and then give it away to someone because I grow sick of it. You can listen to Punk so many times before it starts to get old. What it done for me was save me $300 dollars a month CD spending binge. And the money I have saved goes towards buying QUALITY music that I find worthy of my money. Sure it sucks but that's my reality.

Thanks for sticking around

I agree with you 100%. Just about all of the CDs I have were purchased because I heard the MP3 first and wanted the original. BUT, I never pay the high retail price for a quality CD; I get all of mine from half.com. If the retail stores would sell CDs for $6-8 I wouldn't have a problem buying it there.

Then there is the problem of hearing an mp3 you really like but have no idea of where to buy it. There really needs to be a reasonable system in place where you can download single mp3's at an affordable price.
