Why are some people anti cdj
i dont know if there are other threads about this, but i didnt feel like searching
but why are some people anti cdjs, lets have it!
They are? I never knew that...
I think its generally because you simply don't have the level of control with cds as you do with vinyl - and as such the mixing is not as good. However, if someone can mix very well with just CD's then i dont suppose anyone will hate them for mixing CDs, its just usually they arent nearly as good as vinyl djs.
Perhaps people see cd-djs as people who want to use cdrs - and get 10 tracks on a cd for 0.30, rather than get 1 track for 5 - perhaps they arent as dedicated to their music if would rather mix on the cheap than well.
I think all the top name djs use mostly vinyl, and just cd for stuff that hasnt come out on vinyl yet. I hear mauro picotto uses a lot of cds but i dont know really.
Bah, when you said 'CDJs' I thought you meant people who mix using a computer
I was about to go off on one about why it really isn't a big deal. Oh well, maybe some other time...
i think people like to see the djs playing with the vinyls..scratching waving the vinyl around and stuff..with CDs they cant see what u r doin..i think its about image most probably..
well i wouldnt prefer a "vinyl" dj from a "cd" dj only because the one uses vinyls wich are nice-looking,expensive and kinda rare...thats shit....if the one can mix better he is better but not from what he's using...i know many top-djs that they want to throw a good track on their sets and not playing the same and same and so they use a cd-r because most times the vinyl havent been released yet....on the other hand, why wait a vinyl to get realesed??? u can buy it if u want after but u dont have to wait till the track gets overplayed....
teo
coz peopel burn mp3 to cd and skank artists money that way, which pisses ppl off in this scene coz money from vinyl sales is what makes the world go around and not CDS to some degree

i prefer vinyl, but i do play cd's in my sets... but sometimes you have to if you dont have the latest and greatest tunes, or tunes that are not out yet, or tunes you produce that havent been sent off to be pressed up yet.
for .mp3's, i try to run then threw a few plugings in sound forge before i even thing of spinning them.
Because it lets them pretend they're l33t
Stop generalizing people. I'm sure that many people who use cds instead of vinyl buy hte official cds that are put out by the record company. Also, sometimes it is easier (and cheaper) to find that one hard to find song you've been looking for forever on cd. Of course there are bound to be the people who just use illegally downloaded mp3s but I highly doubt they are spinning in any decent arena.
Vinyl just seems to be the standard of a DJ. Lots of people say with CDs that you could just as much DJ on your computer as with CDs.

can you hear a big difference in sound on a cd compared to vinyl? aren't vinyls supposed to be warm sounding compared cd? I wonder if you can notice a difference on a big sound system?

Hm...I'm confused here. Are you talking about being against DJs who only use CDJs or DJs that use CDJs in addition to vinyl turntables? I think everyone would agree that if you have turntables, its ok to have a CDJ in addition to them in order to play older, rare, tunes but the majority of their songs are played on vinyl. Although it's ok to DJ with only CDJs, these people get less respect because a lot of these kinds of DJs use mainly CD-Rs, and are therefore not supporting the industry. When I think of someone who only uses CDJs, I think of someone who DJs at a bowling alley or something...you might as well just use your computer.
Could you tell me what the hell is so wrong about mixing on PC?
Traktor DJ Studio, a MIDI controller, a sound card with two stereo outputs, and an external mixer is what I have. I really can't understand how the media of which the sound sources from, can have the greatest impact on your mixing abilites. Infact, on computers and CD's, you are abel to align the tracks with ms. precision. You also have ton's of extra functions.
I do own an turntable I just use for fun. Dropping a track at a cue at for example the second baseline, is quite more difficult to do than on a PC/CD-player. Playing two vinyls, beatmatching them, and just snap the crossfader over to the center, is something everyone can do. Just as one the computer, you could set it to beatmatch, and then slip the crossfader to center. This doesn't mean that that way of mixing sucks.
I really do laugh at all of you Sir-KnowItAlls that condemn this kind of mixing. You really don't grasp the sillyness of thinking two stupid tables with rotating plastic can outcompete everything in this world.
What is so wrong about buying Armin's two latest singles, and mixing them on my computer?
It's kind of ironic when you think over it, alle these tracks are made on computers, and with help from computer technology. But when it comes to mixing them on their original platform...

Humm I dunno I think it's "image" really.
I think that if the mixing sounds good it shouldn't depend on the media. I'm a cdj and I buy everything online overseas and that means spending 8 or something on each CDS, the same for Vinyl I guess.
I also think that some people say that just to look cool (my opinion only don't flame me for this) and it's just because it's the traditional way, maybe vinyl people feel cheated on stuff like Pioneer CDJ1000 or CDJ800, but I think that music and technology must go forward and people should realize that.
Cheers!
VINYL: here to stay?
why do people hate on CDJ's?
its just like why do people dislike artificial flavoring and artificial fibres and answered simply. It;s not real!!! i.e. cd-djing is emulating a 'real' dj
even if they can do it better, or more conveniently or what not.. say what you say, but seeing somebody with a little 5"x5inch box plugged into a rack of digital fx processors and whatnot is not *nearly* as awe inspiring or.. interesting as watching somebody manipulate big floppy pieces of vinyl) dj'ing is half about the music and half about the show they put on (IMO)..
you could have used common sense to figure that out!
I think its just kind of a culture thing mostly, before all the new cd mixing and cue point stuff came out (and 'vinyl' emulators which allow scratching and what not (CDJ1000?) it used to be just.. better to use vinyl, now its even i guess...
ask yourself.. if cd DJing technology is so much better, why is it trying to act like 'vinyl' DJing.. (followers cant be leaders)
i agree with benoitfan.
it completely destroys the concept of a dj.
soon enough (though this is an xtreme view) youd have geekish computer freaks spinning with crazed homemade programs off their computers back home. <-- ok that was lame.
honestly it doesnt make sense since everything else about the music is lots of times synthesized. id rather see a dj spin vinyls though
i go for the music.
i don't care what kind of media the deejay plays as long as i like the music.
Heheheh another one of these topics =P
Personally,,, I don't like cds nor do I respect a DJ who plays an entire set of cds at a club or party. I can't stand when I see empty turntables with cd booklets on top of them
Although I don't think there is a problem play a few tracks here and there,,, just not and entire set. Also I find that the sound quality is usually pretty shitty compared to vinyl and the mixes not usually as good,,, but it's just my opinion so who cares.
vinyl is probably more reliable when spinning. People wouldnt want to hear skipping during a set.
well, here's my 2 cents.
I only spin on vinyl. And I have a couple of reasons for doing so. First of all, I've fallen in love in the hunt for vinyls. Yes, they are a hell of a lot more expensive then downloading them from some dodgy p2p client but when you manage to track down that particular vinyl and you are holding it in your hands you get a lot higher satisifaction. Plus, you got the sense of actually owning something. CDs would come with a feel of ownership as well, but somehow they still feel cheap too me
. MP3s are just something you download in a few seconds and then delete whenever you feel like it. Like it never was there. This search for vinyl also works as a quality control. Since they are expensive and sometime hard to come by you get careful of what you're buying.
Then when it comes to the actual spinning, I personally don't like spinning CDs. Why? To me it just feels a bit to much of pressing buttons. I wanna feel I'm actually doing something of a handcraft when spinning. Not that I'm programming something.
Now, I do realise sometimes it can be good to have a CD player as a nice addition to your two turntables. Especially for those rare promo situations mentioned earlier. And I can see myself buying one as well. But since my mixer just went ape-shit on me I'll have to invest in a new mixer before anything else
