easy fellaz..
i was hopin to buy a pair of Sony mdr- v700DJ's
but only seen em for �99.
Anyone know anywhere that sells em cheaper?
BUT..
after reading various threads a lot of people say to stay clear
of these cans?
i didn't wanna be going over �100.
Any reccomendations?

I had the Sony but they broke so switched to the Pioneer 1000,,, and I like them a lot better.

I love my 700's and they're sharp as fuck but they get really uncomfortable and hot after long periods of time. Mine haven't broken yet, but I guess it's only a matter of time.

people think its industry standard becuase you see alot of djs wearnig them...but alot get paid to wear them. they arent very strong but were strong enough for me. i take care of my things so mine didnt break. i switched to hd280 beucase of sound quality
most people say that the hinges break on them after a couple of months!
they aren't industry standard
they only seem to be because sony pays a quite a few of the top djs to use them
i suggest looking through the headphone thread and making a desicion based on that
the hinges of my V700's broke off 2 months after i got them.
but i got them replaced, and have been a lot more careful, and they're doing well now. but they'll break again eventually.
it's just the design, i guess.

p.s. if they weren't SO expensive, the v700's wouldn't be that bad. they're good looking

As said before, the V700DJ sucks for the money! The entire line is overpriced, because Sony can get away with it. I wouldn't pay more than $50 USD for these headphones; the swivel edges always break, they aren't comfy, they are too heavy, they are inaccurate as fuck, etc. etc. etc. .... but if they cost less, it'd be okay.
Please read at least SOME of the thread up top, eh? How about it?
And anyone in Europe should be able to get Sennheiser headphones for much cheaper than us in the States... and seeing as how Sennheiser makes a LOT of kickass headphones for DJ's, this is a good thing!
Let's review some good Sennheiser headphones:
HD212 Pro -- Good for a beginner DJ looking for an "at-home" DJ phone. Good isolation and good bass and easy to drive. AND ITS CHEAP!! ($50 USD!)
HD280 Pro -- Great DJ phone for someone looking to do both studio monitoring and DJing with one headphone. INCREDIBLE isolation, really flat and accurate, with extended bass. Doesn't quite have all the oomph needed for monitoring in noisy clubs tho, unless you (wisely...) beatmatch with the hihats. ($90 USD!)
HD25 -- Great DJ Clubphone; might not look like much, but it's metal, not plastic, inside. Easy to power, lots of bass, durable, comfortable, can go L O U D! If you want a clubphone, this is it.

i got my v-700 a year and a half ago...still doing fine
Just wait until those thin, brittle, flimsy plastic swivel parts break on you! And it probably won't be much longer to do so.
The ones that I've tried are already showing signs of premature failure, even though they were brand new: Some of the springs within their swivel joints are making creaking or popping noises. Not a good sign of quality control, to say the least!

unfortunately some people in here will be dissapointed *cough Gluegun cough* but everyone has the freedom to declare whatever he wants to.
The bad thing with the preoccupied stupid arsehead people that say "hey don't buy these cans, they break!" is that their IQ is below zero.
Maybe IF, i say, IF you paid more attention to the usage of these cutties you would still have them on your head. Instead of that, you throw away @ about � 156 or less (or much more) and you maltreat them. And as for the "poor" sound quality, i say that "poor" is your ear... Maybe you don't like SONY because of the "overpriced" products it has.
Anyway, some guy in here switched to the Pioneer 1000... dear friend, did you even notice what is the shape of the 1000's? A SIMPLE COPY OF THE MDRV700'S. SO, WAKE UP AND READ THIS:
EVERYTHING AFTER THE MDRV700'S IS JUST A COPY OF THEM THAT GOT DEVELOPED (MAYBE).-
well gluegun is not alone and he does know more than a lot of people here...im not saying that he knows everything but i have followed his opinion on more than 1 occasion and he knows what he is talking about.
the reason alot of people dont like the sony headphones is that they just do not sound that great. Especially beucase of its bloated bass and lack of detail... on a dj's perspective, i put mixes down that sounded great on the headphones but on a pair of good speakers, they sounded like a trainwreck becuase the headphones werent detailed or dynamic enough. on the monitary side, they are just really expencive for what you get, and you pay that much becuase its SONY and becuase its silver and it looks cool... not necessarily the sound, or the haritage that sony has in sound. i mean lets face it: how many audiophiles talk about sony? [none] so you just pay for the name really.
i do agree about people taking care of their things. i had mine for a long time and they didnt break but i take great care of my things. i switched from sonys to sennheisers and i dont understand how i mixed without them.
the sony 700's have design flaws. the wire at the plug will break and they are too loud. I think sony are in the process of bringing out an upgraded model.
also...judging from the huge differences in sound from all different headphones, and seeing all the different specs and kinds of drivers used especially with the way the sound has to work regarding the different ways that different headphones fit around your ear... headphones are amazingly more diverse than you will ever know..just spend some time with different kinds and you will hear what im talking about.
Oh, I think I know why Sony can get away with making severely overpriced, wretchedly underperforming products, especially headphones:

Avoid the 700's with a passion. I took the finest care of mine, but the cans still snapped off the headband, and the left channel died. Not to mention, theyre quite uncomfortable after 10-15 minutes.
I now have Sony MDR v7506. They have great sound, arent flimsy like the 700's, and very comfortable on the ears. They run around $80-100. You can also get MDR v6's, which are about 60. They have the exact same cadns, just a different ear cuff and headband I think.
