best mp3 player?

i have had extensive use of an ipod but honestly i dont really like the sound quality and i dont need all the extra stuff that it has [game, addressbook etc] im thinking about getting the creative jukebox zen. any opinons?

WINAMP! Hands down!

Posted by Prototrance on Feb-06-2003 00:59:

Winamp is good for simply playback. But if you want to record MP3's to CD really well play them through a wave editing program like soundforge or wavelab then into an outboard CD-r. You can tweak the parameters and do basic mastering with these progs' to really get the best out of MP3's.

LOL he's asking about mp3 players, not software like winamp.

I have a Creative Nomad Zen and I LOVE it. The sound quality is better than the iPOD cuz it goes up to 95 dB while I'm sure that the iPod is less than that. It's also small enough to fit any pocket. 20 GIGs and cheaper than the iPod, great deal.

I'm happy with my Samsung Yepp 30H...it's really small but has 128 MB...has a voice recorded to and a nice neon cell phone screen

Well... just to get the debate started i must say that my Philips eXpanium mp3/cd player ownz all! i mean... 700 mByte! and it can also play standard audio cd:s and vcd! how much more can you get for under 300$ ?

Posted by DjJade on Feb-06-2003 08:28:

so...its a cd player? i donno i need something more compact and soemthing that can hold more. mainly i want to listen to my vinyl that i am in the process of ripping and at 256kbs 700 is not enough...at all. hows the sound? why would anyone need vcd? and if its an mp3 player it kinda defeats the purpose of having a cd doesnt it? even though i see some use in that... i dont see much. basically i want an mp3 hardrive player with the best sound.

I had a RIO PMP300

Try a RIO !

dont buy one from a cheap compagny like The little Blue bye RCA ...

For what you're looking for, the Creative Zen is the best hands down. Smaller than a CD player with 20 GBs and the best sound quality. End of discussion.

The netMDs are great.. my Sony MZ-N1 is perfect... there is no other portable players near the netMDs quality, portability, durability and batterylife today... so they are still the no1 choice IMO

and when I say portable I dont mean a bigass cd sized player.. what use is a PORTABLE player if you cant carry it in your pocket without any trouble?????

Posted by Pio on Feb-06-2003 13:48:

^ Can it hold 20 gigabytes of mp3s? I don't think so. Next!

sigh..

it depends on how you phrase the question.

it you ask what audio player with built in HD you can ofcoz disregard the netMDs..

If you are asking what GENERAL/ALLROUND audio player has the best portability, performance, battery life, durability, sound quality and general quality, the top-of-the-line netMDs are KINGS.. just try them and compare to all the bigass, expensive, unstable, undurable, featureless HD players out there and see for yourself

Posted by Pio on Feb-06-2003 13:58:

I had a MD before getting my ZEN and I would never go back to that as well as CDs, even if net MDs are obviously easier to use because you don't have to actually record on real time. My MP3 player is just PERFECT, has all I need, excellent sound quality, battery lasts long enough, and is small enough to fit into my pocket. Oh, and I can store 20 gigs without having to change those annoying little discs

Posted by hobs0n on Feb-06-2003 14:03:

exactly what kind of batterylife, size, durability, sound quality and price does the zen have..? I am ready to change my opinion if there are new HD players that are actually small enough to fit in your pocket and have a DECENT battery life and not every other unit that ships are broken before arrival.. until then the netMDs are king IMO

Posted by Pio on Feb-06-2003 14:10:

I got my Zen for $250. The battery usually lasts up to 10 hours, which is more than enough for me. It's a bit bigger than the iPOD, but still small enough to fit my pocket. Sound quality owns the iPOD and goes up to -95dB. Look up info in www.nomadworld.com .

Posted by hobs0n on Feb-06-2003 14:14:

A bit larger than Ipod?? ugh.. then your pockets must be really big! that would NOT fit in my pockets

I guess it depends on what you prioritize.. Ofcoz I can see the benefits of a HD player but I reaaaally like the visa card sized MZ-N1 although the HD players are getting there..

Posted by Pio on Feb-06-2003 16:22:

LOL yeah b/c I never wear tight pants I can even work out with it quite comfortably

Posted by hobs0n on Feb-06-2003 16:49:

just well fitting..

My gym actually play good musik all the time so I dont have to have musik with me..

Posted by Pio on Feb-06-2003 17:20:

So does the Zen. And it's much cheaper with superior sound quality

Posted by hobs0n on Feb-06-2003 18:01:

AND the Zen is much prettier.. not as pretty as my N1 though

Posted by FastFashion on Feb-06-2003 18:16:

The iPOD is not ugly, it's so dope. The packaging was amazing!

But anyway, sooooo....does the ZEN have ZEN SKINS, like the iPOD has iSKINS!! HMM!!hee-hee

Posted by DjJade on Feb-06-2003 18:34:

well i know something like iskins is necessary becuase ipods are so easy to scratch. i hear zens are more durable. ipod looks nice but they really sacrificed durability for asthetics beucase the casing is extremely easy to scratch up.
