Smile Introduction Thread for all new TOTAs

Ok, another TA thought this would be a good idea so since she didn't want to make the thread I figure I would (as there is also a similar thread in the Montreal Forum). This is for all newly registered Toronto TAs to talk about whatever they want, ask questions, get things out into the open and get over the "shyness" that could be apparent in posting in such a hate filled and overall EVIL environment that TA is (lol) So post away...
Chris.

Well, I consider myself new...at least a lot newer than a lot of you. My name is Kevin. I'm 16 years old (going on 17 on June 30th), and I goto Senator O'Connor Catholic High School (gr11...honor roll student two years and probably this year if i don't f00k up math & physics). I'm part Italian and consider myself to be very relaxed (probably from all the trance ). While growing up, I followed my brother and sister in listening to rock music. Bands like U2, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins (earlier stuff) were all loved by moi and still are!

If I remember correctly I got INTO electronica (im saying that because didn't know exactly what was trance and what was not at the time) in late 2000. I always loved artists like Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk when I was growing up but never bothered looking beyond them till then. Digitally Imported was a BIG contributer to my love for trance, if it wasn't for them I'd still be listening to robert miles - children most likely. I later (about early 2002 learned about Tranceaddict.com but never really thought it was that great until September when i finally registered and started posting. Since then my like has changed significantly and I owe most of it to tranceaddict! I've learned to be more open minded and accepting of music, ideas and people.
Unfortunetly, I didn't start partying with all of you until late december. It was the classic case of "I have no one to go with and I'm under 19".

anyways...in the future I hope to purchase some REAL dj equipment so I can actually start practicing properly (I'm probably gonna go for some single cd players for now cuz I can't afford to constantly buy vinyls, i'll have to do that at a later time). School is obviously important to me, I *plan* on going to Ryerson for their Graphical Communications Management program, but I'm still open and looking at other programs available to me.

So there I am

I hate NEWBIES !!!
I'll be TAs NEWBIE KILLA

Posted by DigiNut on Feb-06-2003 04:58:

LOL, notice how this post has 8 replies and not a single one is -actually- from a real newbie?

Ah well... I suppose I'm newer than almost anyone else, but I'm also a loud-mouthed spamming bastard so you probably all know the nick by now. And I was into electronica during the FastTracker days (i.e. before TA was around).

But anyway, to try and make some actual coherent point out of this message (and really, this entire thread), don't be shy about posting if you're a "lurker," TOTA's are all very friendly people despite the fact that they argue about every single niggling little detail in life no matter how unimportant. Seriously, when I met up with people face to face for the first time there was no trouble getting along (um... except for two people I can think of who kept giving me dirty looks at Viva but never said a word to me, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. Were you shy, or just blinded by my off-white pants and bright red shirt?)

...so much for being coherent.

Posted by rahvin on Feb-06-2003 05:33:

Well, i'm not new but I never post much None of my friends have been around from university to come with me to all these sweetass trance events that have been going on lately, damn them to hell! Oh uh, i'm 21 and go to Seneca college. I Dj as well, and now starting to produce so hopefully i'll get my name out sooner or later in the Toronto scene

Posted by Time2Burn on Feb-06-2003 05:43:

^^ Dude I hope your (diginut) not talking about me! I actually looked forward to meeting ya. I ain't no snob so next time come and blind side me just like LKD loves to do.

So ok ok, I ain't new. Practically all of ya fools know me since I am the TA Beacon. Az is the name, short for Aslan. And contrary to (un)popular belief I am not the wanker UKTA!!

If ya really want to know more about me I suggest you read this threadfor some little known facts. So little known that I didn't even know about them.

Oh and by the way I am happy to announce that this is my 500th Post! It took me almost 2 years to reach this plateau as I've only recently become a post whore.

So congratulate me... I am now a TrancEchronic!

Posted by Matt on Feb-06-2003 05:47:

My name is Matt. 16 years old (grade 11 honour roll student @ CCI), turning 17 on March 29th

I was previously a major academics student (top honours in math, science, etc.), but over the last two years, my interests have shifted heavily towards the arts, and now I get my big marks in Drama and Music

I don't have a damn clue what I want to do for a living. I really want to DJ and make music, because its what I love, but I am not in a position to say I can make a career out of it yet.

I've been DJing over at AfterhoursDJs.org radio for the last year and a half. Up until a week ago I've been using PCDJ + a Stanton RM-3... but now I've got my turntables, and I am trying my best to learn beatmatching techniques so I can get back to the kind of mixing I could do with mp3s

Just recently, I've begun to venture into the world of music production. I currently produce under the alias of 'LeMay'. Expect many releases during the coming months.

I currently live in Collingwood (2 hours north-west of Toronto, on Georgian Bay) where there is no trance scene whatsoever... but I work continuously to spark interest in the genre through my friends and such. I lived in Toronto (Davisville & Bayview area) for 13 years, and I wish I was still living there because its such a fantastic city!!!

I'm a pretty new as a TOTA. I've been to 3 Viva parties (Talla, Hardwick, and the 1 year party). I haven't met TOO many of you yet, but I hope to change that as I make it down to the city for more parties. I'm a shy bastard... so you help me out a lot of you just come and say hi... because I often hesitate to do the same to others... the one thing I don't like about myself.

I've always been interested in electronic music, alongside all the usual stuff any MuchMusic tool would listen to (Bush, Our Lady Peace, Garbage, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Eminem, etc.) I always enjoyed stuff like Chemical Brothers - Block Rockin' Beats, but my knowledge was limited to whatever was on Much. Then, one Xmas, I got the Mortal Kombat: Annihilation soundtrack. There wasn't any trance on it, but it definitely got me into electronic music in general. And then came the bomb. The Hackers soundtrack This CD introduced me to artists like Underworld, Leftfield, Orbital, REALY Prodigy (I had only ever heard Breathe), and so many others. From there, I discovered DI.fm, and then TranceAddict.

I've been MuchMusic-free for quite some time now Trance and Ambient is all I'll ever need.

I enjoy energetic, uplifting trance the most, but I always welcome some house, psy, hard trance, progressive, hard house, ambient, and smooth jazz.

Some of my favourite artists right now are:

Sonorous
Mirco de Govia
Midway aka Ralphie B
Dumonde
Flutlicht
Underworld
4 Strings
Armin van Buuren
Katana
Guardians of the Earth
Michael Woods
Coast 2 Coast
Chicane
Airwave

And my all-time favourite tracks include:

Cass & Slide - Perception (Vocal mix)
Coast 2 Coast - Home
Underworld - Cowgirl
System F - Exhale (Armin van Buuren remix)
Chicane & Salt Tank - Leaving Town (5am remix)
Orbital - Halcyon & On & On
Freestate - Release
Mirco de Govia - Things that Matter
Moogwai - Viola (Armin van Buuren remix)

Music is without a doubt, the best thing in my life at the moment. And its a great feeling to be with your friends to celebrate the music you love.

I've had two prior accounts on TA. I just forgot the passwords on both of them and just re-signed. Not a big deal since I probably only had about 20-25 posts since 2001 anyway. But both of those accounts are gone for good now. meh.

Nah, no worries... I don't think I saw you, but then I don't know what you look like anyway. I'll scout you out next time.

I don't really think it was snobby anyway, maybe just shy. These things don't actually bother me anymore, I just thought I'd point it out anonymously so those who do know what I'm talking about might at least crack a smile next time.

If anyone cares about who I actually am (even though I've mentioned this in previous threads), I'm 19 and I'm in Elec Eng at Queen's. And I call myself a geek but I'm actually not, not since about a year ago anyway (not looking for any comments from the peanut gallery here). I'm a 'thoroughbred' musician having been trained classically on the piano and oboe, but went through all the stupid phases (pop, r&b, rap, etc.) and then a while after being introduced to MODs, started with electronica a few years ago and stuck with it.

And, as you all have already heard me say, I think more people need to respect the 0ld sk00l!

Posted by Durafei on Feb-07-2003 14:38:

Any newbie TA who wants to become a real TA must go through "initiation" procedure, which includes recognizing at least 5 tracks from an hour long PVD or Tiesto set, dancing sober for 5 hours straight, going on a road-trip to see a good DJ and of course buying drinks to all real TAs
