Trance vs. Porn
I actualy threw this one out in another thread, but figured I'd get an input (ahem...) from other TAs on their views about Trance...
Before we start - I am a 100% trance addict. I love trance/electronic music and I'm not bashing anyone. But here's my question...
Doesn't it seem like lately, trance tunes have a half-life of sushi in a hot, humid sun??? I hate to use this analogy but to me, lately trance has become like porn - you've seen it once, twice, three times and then it's like "Bleh, move on". What I am saying is that after you get over the initial "excitement" (cough...cough) you start looking for "quality" - not just any track will do...
So, basically finding a perfect tune worth keeping/paying for becomes harder and harder [no pun intended
]. Seriously, just like porn - think of your initial reaction to just seing a boobie and then think about it now.. It's like, eh - seen it before nothing interesting. So, lately, for me - the tune has to be something special, something unusual...
What excited me about trance before was the unpredictability of the track... You don't know when it will hit you. But some tunes, after they hit you - the next time you listen is no longer the same. Like riding a rollercoaster - the second time around is not as exciting...
(Keeping my analogies drug free
)
Some of the examples of those "Single-serving tunes" (c)CynepMeH, a Fight Club Member since 2001
1. Yet Another Day
2. I Believe (Nu NRG remix)
3. Castles in the sky <----(((blush)))
actually, many more....... Not that these tracks are not quality but what I am saying is that after the initial listen - they are no longer as exciting as before...
So, are we upon the era of "Disposable Trance"???
I still watch the same porn and still listen to the same song..........I don't get bored with it
The are still "hot" every time watch/listen to it

| Originally posted by D.Edge yes and no... its no secret that some trance is regressive, with the same old breakdowns and riffs and melodies from '99, and there is a market for formulaic pop-trance that is lapped up by radio/tv/Ministry of Sound etc... but at the same time, there is the underground scene. DJs and producers who are taking the music forwards... so if you think you're getting tired of trance, then look in a different direction...you might find something to you taste |

I hear you, CynepMeH. Trance will die off unless it moves on. Right now predictability is killing the genre slowly.. I hate it as much as you guys but if trance doesn't move forward and producers dont pull up their socks, trance is headed the same way as pop.

kinda backwards for me
so much trance out there that out ther that sometimes u miss some really good shit. sometimes it takes me 2 or 3 times to listen to a track to truly appreciate its uniquness and quality. I still listen to old stuff (aahhh classics) can't go wrong with them.
Is innovative music an oxymoron then?
Not every track/genre is equally predictable in my opinion.
predictable example: Dumonde - Can you dig it
surprising track: Moshic and Zidan - 10@Ze
predictable example: System F - Out of the Blue
surprising: James Holden - Horizon or in trance...free radical - surreal..or in psy almost every Infected Mushroom track.
Note: Predictability(?) does not necessarily make those tracks bad, in fact my favourite trance from the golden 99 era is pretty predictable..but it's indeed time to at least change the forumla here and there.
I like teh pr0n/tr4nc3 analogy.
Like Pr0n, trance will never die!
wait wait
yes, I agree, some trance these days is not that great, it may be cool at first but some just are not long lasting because its just something that sounds like all of the other cool stuff that's been released in the past. but what about sasha's airdrawndagger? it's a great album ... and it's not like anything else he's ever done, and probably unlike anything anyone else has done (that i have heard) it's all breakbeat stuff mostly. and then there's dave seaman and james lavelle. most of you are all probably not into those last 2 dj's very much because they don't spin too much "trance" but their recent releases from global underground have been really good, and they're spinning tracks that are really unique (or more unique than popular trance or techno these days). it's what keeps me in the electronic scene, as long as i can count on the fact that there's dj's out there breaking new grounds.
Hmm... I like Psytrance for it's unpredictability but it is somewhat hard to dance to some of those trax, coz' they are going at 150 or higher bpm... Hardtrance, prog, hardhouse - I have yet to mature to that level... Not there yet. So, hence was my topic - that trancerecords I bought a year ago now are pretty much are taking up space on my shelves... Hence "Disposable Trance"...
As the quality of trance sinks lower as lower, Prog gets better and better (or at least stays at the awesome level it's been at), so I don't listen to a lot of trance these days.

porn and trance go hand in hand

I can't handle porn , its the biggest tease ! why can't I talk to a girl for about 2 seconds and then give it to her doggy !lol
I choose Trance over porn any day.
trance + porn = goes well
I think it is pretty normal to get bored at something. It does not only happens to Trance but to all other music genres. I'm into other stuff too, like Pearl Jam. Sometimes I get tired of some of their songs, but then after some time I play them and I fall in love with the tune again. The same thing happens to Trance. I find a new tune I get really into it, listen to it over and over again then it gets boring... But after some days it sounds just as cool as before to me... Perhaps isnt it whats happening with u?
trance vs. porn...tough call...
this probably sounds weird but it might be cool to blast your fave trance tunes while watching porn (or better yet, while fucking)...
hmmm i'll have to try it sometime
shadowmaster you need to start learning how to read.
well i think both trance and porn are never too dull..there are just way too many productions out there that although some follow a general criteria they each have a different "mojo"
