-- Cueing Properly? skating?

Posted by patticus on May-18-2001 08:30:

im having some trouble cueing sometimes, when i want to cue it to the "big" beat, i have to "front cue" or kind of guesstimate, because if i play over the beat and then backcue, it skips.

or am i just going about this all wrong?
some help please

(my cueing ends up alright, but not perfect the way i would like)

pat
aka dj splice (im putting this name on hold, haha)

i use cdrwin...

just checking...2 second gap is the min...mite be why its skippin, the best way to get a cue perfect is to open it up in soundforge so u can break it right down depends on how fussy u are i guess

sorry mucka, i wasnt clear at all.
im talking about cueing VINYL.
can anybody help me?

Hehehe ... that was funny mucka =)

Well if your needle is skipping when you backcue try decreasing your antiskating (or even setting it to zero). If that doesn't help try increasing the stylus pressure.
If that doesn't help either, try different backcueing technique (ie. lighter touch).

hope it helps.

yeah thanks i'll try that.. ive tried the "touch" heh, it works.... occasionally

i must be retarded, ive been increasing the antiskating in hopes that it'll increase weight = no skipping?

how does it work then (and how do i increase stylus pressurE)

Wink

To increase the pressure you just need to spin the big dougnut like counter-weight on the end of your tone arm twords the front a bit.

As for anti-skate, if it skips when you are backcuing you need to turn it down. If it skips when you're cuing forwards, then you need to turn it up.

You shold be able bring the record back and forth over one beat without it skipping at all.

righto on the stylus pressure (duh!)
i just didnt want to wear out my records.

so now i understand the anti-skating

thanks a lot fyx and skywarp

Patticus, read the thread called "a few DJ questions" . The thread was started by Sektile. That might help a little bit.
