Armin : better in the past?

for me: YES for sure!

He made MASTERPIECES. SHANE 'c'est musique' (Armin Van Buuren remix) and ARIA 'dido' (Armin Van Buuren remix) are absolutely AMAZING tracks. For me it is PURE trance music. His recent prod/remixes sounds pretty poor next to those old mixes.

what's your opinion of the 'old' armin and the 'new' armin?

Posted by Prototrance on Feb-09-2003 01:12:

For me Armin has always been a very consistent DJ and producer. His best work is definately:-

Armin - Blue Fear
Shane - C'est Musique (Armin van Buurens rising star mix)
Shane - too late to turn (Armin instrumental mix)
Solar Stone - Seven cities (Armin van Buuren remix)
Iio - Rapture (Armin van Buuren remix)

Shane - C'est Musique (Armin van Buuren Remix)
Denzil & Dwayne - Force of Habit (Armin van Buuren rising star mix)

my favorites

Production wise, he did seem to put more time into his earlier productions...but as a DJ, he keeps getting better and better! His tunes are still good today but don't meet up to his mixes of tunes like "Dido".

i can't beleive no one mentiond Armin - Communication

anyways i beleive that improving day by day and TeKnoHe@d2025 might be right he doesn't really put a lot of time recently but his track with ferry is gonnna be huge i think.

Personally,,, I don't see any problems with Armin newer productions. All of his producitons in 2002 were consistant. And for those of you that think quality has gone down,,, this might be because the guy is so busy as a DJ. It must be hard to keep up with his schedule and also have time left for produciton.

wtf

Pal one recommendation
IF you can..listen to ASOT 83
ARMIN=GOD
Production wise....I guess his previous years productions are dope ..but the one's from last year werent a disappointment by any measure =))

Armin kicks ass. He gets better with age.

My faves:

# 1 (OF ALL TIME TOO)
DJ Manta - Holding On (Armin Van Buuren's Rising Star Mix)
# 2 Gouryella - Walhalla (Armin Van Buuren's Rising Star Mix)

some other faves (can't remember em all now)

Perpetuous Dreamer - Dust Wave
Drax and Scott Max - Sublime (Darkstar Remix)

Well Armin, like every artist, becomes a little worse and worse as life goes on...

Posted by undertensecond on Feb-09-2003 06:17:

nope he is the best dj around now.

Posted by Sid on Feb-09-2003 09:39:

Armin just goes from strength to strength, his track selection and mixing is second to none and continues to produce quality tracks

Communication
Dido
Dust Wave
Walhalla
---
Absolutely class

Sky Falls Down
The Sound of Goodbye
---
Absolutely shit

armin was awesome when i first started seeing him mid 2001. but he dipped quite badly in the second half of last year, he sets were extremely predictable and to be honest, really boring. Seen him twice over the last 2 months, and he now sounds amazing. His sets are much more varied and interesting, still keeping it trancey but not boring overly cheesey like ferry.

his productions have slipped imo, but his djing has improved considerably

Posted by arjoderoon on Feb-09-2003 12:10:

sound of goodbeye is surely one of his best ever,
together with clear blue moon

never been a big fan of armin. esp as a DJ ....

but i think hes gone from bad to worse... he was ok in 2001 esp w/ Clear Blue Moon but i think that was his turning point.. hes gone shit since then.. communication/dido(avb Universal religion mix)/C'est la musique/viola/clear blue moon are like the only songs that i really like of his... but then again hes produced shit tunes from eons ago as well... blue fear/4 elements.. two of the most repetitive non vocal tunes lol... meh

just my $0.02

Armin : better in the past? ..... i certainly hope so

i really cant make myself enjoy hearing him anymore... i seen him play about 4 or 5 times. played great once.... but the other times, i hated every minute of it... its not just cos i dont like normal trance, cos i do like it, but only when its good. but i feel trance in the last year has been rather dire... there havnt been hardly any major tunes. like push - legacy, and stuff like that.. stuff that quite literally does put you on another level in a club

i expect armin to tiesto-ize next year

Possible... Though I doubt he will go the same musical direction, it's very possible that he will lose a lot of popularity.

As for the topic, Armin's productions/ remixes' qualities are going in different directions:

Sound quality, atmosphere etc. -> -> Getting better and better... he's second to very few nowdays...

Originallity and diversity -> -> He's becoming pants at this... You can see that many of his tracks aren't very thought over) or at least not thought deep enuff ) and his formularity is peaking... Time is the Healer was a brilliant go IMO... His Rising Star era was great with stuff like Walhalla and Holding On and OMFGIDIE L'esperanza...

Posted by [mart] on Feb-09-2003 16:48:

I reckon Armin has always been quite consistent with the quality of his productions and remixes. That said, I think his earlier tracks were more memorable and had more staying power - Blue Fear is 6 years old but still sounds AMAZING!

If Armin does go the route of Ferry or Tiesto I probably will cry.

Armin is probably one of the most OVERRATED dance-artists in history. His productions were quality in the past, as a DJ he is poor. His best mix-album is the Black Hole CD for Artist Profile Series, that one is still enjoyable, the rest of his mix-compilations are utter wank.

FINALLY!!! someone that sees eyes w/ me on this issue :-p hehe ive been saying that for who knows how long now and i always get flamed.. i wouldnt go as far to say that his cds are wank but its really not all that special

that being said, yahel - devotion (armin remix) & his rmx of L'esperanza are still class.. but they are couple of yrs old

I enjoyed Armin's earlier work, such as Communication, Major League - Wonder, and some others, but the latest releases are shit. I guess he's trying to be "cool."
