neglect

have you ever taken a step back from all this tranceaddictiveness and realized how much youve been neglecting anything outside of the electronica genre. has trance taken over your life that it's reached an uncontrollable level?
is this healthy?

i need to start tolerating other types of music.

Not really, I feel satisfied with my genres of music ...

Trance
Hard Trance
Breaks
Old Skool (pre 1995 stuff)
Ambient/Chilled
Tech-Trance

I don't have time for any other styles to be honest.... sure i like some songs like Muse, cos they innovate & it sounds ok, but I don't think trance rules me too much.. honest

Well sometimes I just kick the trance cd out of my cd-player.... it sometimes get me bored. And then I put some hardcore/gabber into my player!! (just for getting any attantion in my brain ) But thats mainly it. Well sometimes I listen to some new-age like ERA of Enigma...

Monkey Dancer 2

It's totally healthy. I just need to find more friends who are into Trance, makes driving a lot nicer when you can all enjoy what your listening to.

I've always had broad horizons when it comes to music. Actually, for me, trance is secondary...what I listen to primarily is jazz and blues. It is important to fill your plate with as much music as possible. Without wandering into other areas, you will never get to experience or be influenced by different music, you just hear the same thing. Overall this is what i listen to:

Jazz
Trance/various electronic music
Blues
Soul
Classic Rock

i dont restrict myself to listen to only electronica related music.. from time to time i wont listen to any trance and just listen to pop, oldies, alternative, hip hop etc etc... but electronic def holds priority w/ me and i mostly listen to like trance/progressive/breaks...

i mainly listen to trance, especially when at the computer. but i also listen to all sorts of other stuff, like some indie, drum n bass (not much just a few cd's), some stuff i cant really pin a genre on like groove armada, the chemical brothers etc.

I totally agree with you. I used to listen to rap and started to look towards other types of music around 1998, and I found trance. Over the years I started getting further and further away from rap and now I have given up on rap totally...look at where it is today, all these bullshit artists like Nelly (Hot in Herre) LoL, what a joke.

i step back and still realise i dont like anything else,. then step back in again

before trance i liked no music, apart from prodigy, but that was early fdance music anyway

Posted by Nadi on Feb-09-2003 22:44:

I dont feel that way at all. Mostly because trance isn't as important to me as it is to just about everyone else here, who are actually obsessed so much its kinda scary.

Posted by tranceaholic on Feb-09-2003 22:49:

i listen to all kinds of music..from pavarotti and bocelli to jay-z...dont mind it,,,but my passion is trance...trance is the only genre that i check for the newest tunes and DJ news..It is my weaponn of choice you can say..

LOL! I hella agree. Nelly IS bullshit. That song is garbage.

I felt like it, some time ago, but when I started that guide to electronic genre, I realised that, even though I used to listen to lots of other genres (d'n'b, hardcore, breakbeat, techno, non-funky house, ...), I was too focused on trance - then I decided to get back to my roots and listen to other electronic stuff

Posted by DJDigDug on Feb-10-2003 02:16:

Once n a while i venture into the honkey music of classic rock and numetal, a few of my friends dont go ne where with out the rap, I dont really like rap personally xcept for lyrical hip hop which is the more underground where the guys have melodic beats and rap slower and try to deliver a message rather than saying "HO get on my dilz fo i can exploit MTV to pay ma billz" I like pretty much any genre of electronic music gabber/hardcore DnB/Jungle house Techno
ambient and breakbeats, but even when i tangent into all those(maybe one of em gets picked a month in reality :) i always return to trance. All my friends are tired of trance now lolz hehe my silly addiction.

Edit: Im not sure about you all but ive noticed myself to be a lot kinder and more optimistic of a person since trance came along, when i was into rap i was rude and negative. Now im 100% different as a person and i like myself a lot more.

Posted by benfica88 on Feb-10-2003 03:11:

Sorry, just electronica music for me

Posted by mr. poopyhead on Feb-10-2003 03:22:

i think that being able to appreciate other genres of music will add to the the enjoyment and appreciation of trance. i'm a big fan of punk rock and even though the 2 genres seem as different as night and day, there are subtle similarities in the genres. being aware of the differences and similarities can really boost your enjoyment of the music and give you a whole new perspective on the music.

Posted by elena on Feb-10-2003 03:25:

ive been listening to coldplay and radiohead all day
but of course in between i had to put on some prog or trance.
this addiction is straining.
i myself sulking at a local club when it's not after hours trance sessions or what not. pure r&b and salsa and sickening music if you can even call it that

Posted by RWC0412 on Feb-10-2003 04:11:

Dunno

Who fricken cares if we like electronica and only that? People like country and only that? rap and only that? Of course other genres may sound good, but trance, techno, house, prog etc. etc. etc. has sure got me listeninig for good !!!!
