Acid Techno, how big is it?

I was at www.bangingtunes.com and I noticed that there are VERY FEW Acid Techno tracks. And on other sites, there are very few tracks that are Acid Techno. Is Acid Techno a big genre? What are some good artists? I'm tired of Trance, and would like to reach out to a new genre. Already got lots of DNB, but, Acid Techno is so great I need more information on it. Thanks!

Acid Techno isn't big at all, especially in the United States. But you should listen to some techno artist like DJ Rush, Guy McGaffer, or D.A.V.E. the drummer.

acid junkies right.... the good/bad thing about acid techno.. is that it stayed underground.... which is a GREAT thing, but bad because it makes it harder to track down. there are next to none commercial acid techno clubs in the uk..... 2 that i know of are in sheffield.. theyre called 'headcharge' and 'planet zogg' both nights are great, and theyres a distinct underground feel, which is a little odd at first if your used to mainstream clubbing, like i was with gatecrasher. i strongly reccommend you try one sumtime

Re: Acid Techno, how big is it?

Acid techno is strictly underground but, they're well spread over the world. At least, here in Brazil, specially in the South, people like Dave the Drummer and Chris Liberator come every now and then.

It's a shame I've never seen them though - let alone I live far from there, it's quite hard to know when they're coming >_<

yeah acid techno is great but hard to find here my favourites tunes :
Solar quest - acid air red (of course!)
Rob acid - acid world (the harder acid techno i have ever heard)
Chris liberator - soul mantra
Shaft punk - squat rock
DAVE the drummer - barbed wire 303
Brain 13 - acid machines (cut-offremix, could be my alltime favourite)
DDR & the geezer - mad cows on acid

As [N]k|[Z] it's quite underground. There is only ONE club night in Melbourne if not all of Australia that is dedicated to Acid Techno (Virus, on monthly and they seem to get All the SUF boys every now and then) If you want Acid Techno tracks/id's then Acid Junkie is your man. He's id'd tracks for me and sent me the link to TK's Acid Database.

Cheers Acid Junkie

yeah i know, it's run by mick beatle (aka charlie don't surf from havok records). he has some l33t connections with other acid tec producers, which often allows him to sell some kick-ass promo releases that are almost impossible to find in any other place

i also use

http://majesticstore.com (US)
http://fabdistribution.com (temporally closed ) (US)
and http://tuneinn.com (UK)

Guess what: jungle-trance/trance'n'bass/trancestep has been around for a veeery long time. And if you think that acid techno is a new useless label - you need to study a wee bit more about electronic music

Look for some of those music guides around the internet: it'll take some time for you to read those things, but the knowledge you get pays off

Posted by TK`Devourer on Feb-19-2003 02:12:

blah

personally, they don't make acid techno like they used to.. the days when skank was making the most mad tunes you couldn't imagine, and when the new "funky" acid techno was never dreamed about..
so much more could've been done with the screaming 303 sound which wasn't, the lib's & co made such amazing tracks as Stop/Go, with as much originality as a blue square for a company logo

If you want tracks (mp3s at least), then i've got more than you could wish for, i can ID old tracks better than old ones. when soulseek is back up goto the acidphonk chat room and see for yourself..

The development of trance followed very closely with acid techno. One of the biggest trance labels of the early 90's featured one of the biggest acid producers of the era, Hardfloor (it still amazes me to talk to kids who look at me with blank stares when I bring up the Hardfloor/Harthouse names...)

Acid got overdone by about 1997/1998, and it makes me a bit sad to see that alotta the labels like Platipus that used to be big into that stuff aren't really putting out much trance wih tons of nice squelchy acid lines anymore...

Given the cycle of things, I'm sure it'll be with a vengeance pretty soon!

Huh??? What have you been smoking? Chicago is all about HOUSE, not techno. Detroit is about, well... Detroit techno, a sound all its own. Wisco is all about the hardcore stuff!

Posted by torontotrance on Feb-20-2003 02:23:

Detroit will be always be the CAPITAL OF USA TECHNO...nothing will ever change that. Many techno artists live in chicago now (dunno why tho)
