Is it just me or do local shops suck d***???

I'm sure in Europe they don't but in Texas they do, at least in Houston and Austin. I've never bought a record at local shop. I would love to support them but they don't have shite. Anybody have any badass local shops???

peace,

Steve

Nah, saying that is like saying Brits like to brush their teeth! Totally false.

It sucks here in Los Angeles! They either don't have it or have limited copies therefore out of stock. Local shops carry a lot of old shitty records not even worth buying. House is a different story though.

Here in Holland are some good shops as far as I know. There's also a lot of shit, but you just have to find the good ones In the region where I live, there are actually no shops at all, but fortunately in the city where my school is, there are 4 shops at walking distance of each other. 1 sucks, 1 is okay if you like harder stuff, 1 uhm, never been there actually but heard some okay stories and the last one is my favorite, specialized in progressive, they often have some classics I'm looking for, great service, and a good website, I have spent too much money there already

Right...I know what you are saying. Every shop I go to is full of old shitty ass used records, or just simply house music. House reminds me of 70's disco, and personally that shit needs to go. Thats all I hear about around here: "You're a DJ really, what do you spin?" " I spin house, yaayy!" Everyone in Austin is like that!

Steve

the problem with alot of local shops is that when the new stuff comes in they don't put it out until after all the "big" area dj's get a stab at it first, so there when they are done there is usually nothing left and it's gone in a matter of minutes. That is my experience with local shops and therefore I don't support them cause I can't if they don't have what I want.

Posted by attacc on Feb-13-2003 01:41:

The shops in Bergen, Norway is not so good either. They have a good selection of House, but the trance selection is just depressive

i have "Anonther Level" here in chicago. usually they have very nice stock, and they're never as crowded as some of the stores downtown. (another level is in the suburbs) unfortuantely, for my hard trance loving ass, not much good hard trance has been released lately imo, so i havent found much i liked...but thats not really the stores fault. (another level tries to keep up with new releases, its actully harder to find somethin older)

they also carry some jungle, a good amount of trance, techno, hardcore, house, and hard house.

actully, im suprised i havent spent more cash at that place

Which shop do u shop in L.A.

Posted by Bryant on Feb-13-2003 08:01:

I live in the Orange County area, so I use to go to Higher Source. Sometimes I would go to Beat Non Stop or DMC Records. I actually like some of the selection that Beat Non Stop has. DMC plain sucks and Higher Source has House music galore! But now I buy online. It's a little more expensive, but I usually get what I want. I find it that the U.S. online record store don't carry a big selection at times also. I always find myself buying from juno or chemcial records which gets expensive. Damm shipping!

What city are you referring to? Eindhoven? Rare Records in Eindhoven is great

Personally, where I live we only have one shop, and sometimes there are a few good (techno) records here, but not too much though.. So I mostly buy online too..

haha i feel you

im in Austin too... and i just order my stuff online.

I get most my UK records directly from there... and trance and progressive from a few other domestic online places.

works out good... i get a 'care package' every few weeks with a bunch of new tunes, and i dont even have to go to a record shop.

alien really isnt that bad.. but they never really have what I'm looking for. If I wanted to buy more house records, it'd work out better.

check the record shop thread!

you'll find that if you order 15 or more at once, the shipping is nothing to worry about - besides local always charges more... notice that local shops actually sell cheaper online that in the store. gotta pay rent. or UPS. you choose.

i have the best local shop in all of North America or at least they claim that all north american DJ's say so www.releaserecords.com

Posted by bigjimslade002 on Feb-15-2003 20:05:

after reading this thread i checked my email to see if my local record store had replied to my email i sent him over A WEEK AND A HALF AGO and lo and behold he finally responded(something about his computer being down blah blah blah, which i understand happens BUT WHEN YOUR AT THE RECORD STORE TWO WEEKS PRIOR AND YOU ASK HIM IF HE CAN CHECK ON A COUPLE OF VINYLS FOR YOU....AAANNNND YOUR WILLING TO PUT DOWN A DEPOSIT UPFRONT AND HE SAIS "SEND ME AN EMAIL REQUEST"
INSTEAD OF JUST TAKING MY MONEY AND LOOKING THEM UP,JUST WHAT EXACTLY IS THE PROBLEM? too lazy to look them up,or their just making sooo much money they can be lax on looking things up for people cuz "hey, we dont need that extra business,we got hundred dollars bills hanging out of our duke"

yadirtystinkinnogoodsunofarrraahhhhhh!!!!*drives car through record store window*

GIVE TRANCE A CHANCE....

Posted by eLe_vatE on Feb-16-2003 14:32:

I have a great local store, selectadisc. Youll be hard pressed to find any vinyl over 2 weeks old in the trance/prog section its all new and they get promos in real early, often before theyre on only-djs and other online stores. Theres another store called Funky Monkey which sometimes gets in trance promos, but its mainly full of US house.

hey hey ppl in Austin I'm down the road in san antonio... record stores here are shithouse also. Occasionally I check out one called Underground Sound, cos sometimes they have something I like... but usually even if I find something good, it's an import which costs like 12 bucks plus tax, and if I order from the UK through juno or chemical it'll cost me like 9 bucks. So fuck that!

Dya know a good place to go in austin to buy equipment? Getting some decks etc soon.
