First international Montreal TA forum Debate
Ok let's have a debate: Does playing a song over and over in clubs make it cheese (such as Sandstorm) or does is have to be cheese from the get go.
I know this was touched on before but nothing was really ever decided
So you're saying that because MC mario plays something then it becomes chees. What exaclty in the song has changed that makes it cheese? Nothing right, you're just annoyed that its no longer a "underground" song. Sharings a bitch sometimes
You have to admit....
Some of the shit Tiesto and AVB is classified as cheese. The big build ups, organs and synths... almost euro... That is cheese to me.
ya and ALOT of stuff ferry corten, dumonde, blank and jones, rank 1 spins is cheezy. thank god tiesto and armin are evolving past that. I personally hate the dumonde style flutlicht (sp?) and SHOKK style hardtrance its cheezier than some songs tiesto spins.
I dont think having a song overplayed has anything to do with it being cheezy. They are completely different issues. Sandstorm is cheezy because its cheezy not because its overplayed.
To me cheeze is like melodrama. Ever watch a movie or a play and you watch the actors over act or go over board to the point you roll your eyes? Well its the same way with music. Music you know is trying to be emmotional and uplifting but it just comes across as fake and silly.
For example take gouryella, especially the latest one. There's really no melody.. its just high low high low. There's nothing innovative its just something that was thrown together in the hopes that someone found something moving from it.
as I told Alec before, a song is bad or good from the beginning, but the more it gets played on mass media (radio, tv) the cheesier it becomes. A perfect example was IIO-Rapture. First time it was played, everybody was freaking out, nice tune, nice vocals, etc. but then radio picked it up and then people started labelling it cheese...
hmmmmm what can i say , to me a cheesy track is like for exemple when you hear it for the first time and you can easily predict the build-up/riffle/synth etc ... everything non-innovative is cheese
i agree with disco joe. chesse from the start. iio is labeled as chesse right now. i guess because the vocals. but listen to the remixes, it only had quality ones. riva, creamer and k, deep dish, even the limited 500 (plus 500 more lol) armin remix. most people hear the original and the creamer and k one. check the others and tell me what you think.
I like Taha's approach. Perhaps what happens is that a song is near cheese but not quite (ex. Rapture) and then what happens is that the song is played so much you get sick of it and label it cheese cuz you're bored with it.
Great song, IIO - in the end - ultra sun remix
good point congo about rapture , it had quality remixes (deep dish space + deep dish miami dub / creamer and k / armin / riva) and i still think those remixes are top notch , but the vocals have been hammered by everybody that it makes it look like a pop song
cheese = $$$
Great response Zing, but I wouldn't say its always the case, but they usually go hand in hand.
happy hardcore is FUCKIN CHEESE
No happy hardcore is just ass
Taha and Zings approach are very correct.
Anything predictable or with overused vocals is cheese
Anything to commercial is cheese
i think alec started this thread becuz of me
