iPod vs. Zen

I know these 2 have been reviewed in threads before....but I am still unable to make my deicision. I was able to play witht he iPod today...and what can I sya?!?! Its beautiful! I don't have firewire installed in my comptuer...but I could get a drive installed for rarely cheap ($40). What are the differences between these two?

I never used a zen before, i have an ipod, its great and its smaller than CD players, cant complain, except the battery had problems, it seems like it doesnt last the full 10 hours like it says, i dont know why

here is your deciding factor:

if you tend to transfer files a lot and are on the move just as much, get an ipod since it doubles as a firewire disk as you know.

if you want something strictly for music, get the zen simply cause it's cheaper.

i have an i pod and i can honestly say it is worth every penny. use it all the time. The only shit is that you have to categorize your music that can take a while if you are into a whole lot of different genres like me. hope that helps with the decision.

i did alot of research and i ended up getting the zen. i am so happy i got it too, it sounds so much better than the ipod and there are so many more features having to do with music...[unlike game, contacts, calendar? on ipod] its so much more musically powerful. people say that its hard to use but i think its hard to make soemthing that can do so much really easy. personally i dont have a problem with the way it works. its not that much bigger than the ipod and its relatively light, plus for those who have the balls, it can be upgraded to a 60 gig hardrive since it uses a standard notebook hd. basically i wanted the best sound and for the size and the money, i dont see it any other way. i used the ipod and i like it alot becuase its easy to use but then you cant create playlists on the fly and there arent as many optoins at hand when you are playing a song. i think if you are really serious about good sound quality and features you should go for the zen. so...yeah. im happy. i also got the etymotic er-4p headphones for them and am planning on making a mod cable to make it into 4s. we shall see how that goes later on..

The Zen's sound quality is so much better. So it's a bit bigger than the IPOD, so what? It's over $100 cheaper! It still 20 gigs of music that fits my pockets

I thought we had this argument before already???????

But anyway, sooooo....does the ZEN have ZEN SKINS, like the iPOD has iSKINS!! HMM!!hee-hee

I still think the iPOD is sick though!5-20 GB of music?NIIIICE!AND it's so slick thin. Also, you CAN get it for cheaper than retail!

Posted by DjJade on Feb-13-2003 14:23:

but not as cheap as a 20 gig zen no matter what...i would vetnture to say, not even if its used.

What this thing?

Zen is only offered to PC, when iPOD grants the option to both PC & iMAC. If you are thinking about purchasing an MP3 player, trust the reviews, the iPod will not disappoint you!!
And lastly, these mp3 players are always being updated. They always go down in price.

Had iPod for a while now.. Here are my gripes:

1. battery life sucks... especially if you leave it in your car overnight when it's cold. Though I think it's got to do more with cold+battery than player itself.

2. Headphones (factory ones) totally blow - hurt my ears and terrible sound.

3. Don't use the Musicmatch software (if you get iPod) -use http://www.ephpod.com/ software - way better and doesn't maim your MP3s permanently.

4. Battery life is expected to last 500 charges and you cannot replace it. This places iPod somewhere just in time for warranty to run out and then it breaks.

5. Belt clip broke off on 3rd day

6. Earphones + remote = very long wire, enough to get tangled in

I'm returning mine... we'll see what competition has to offer.
