best encounter with a dj....
any interesting stories of meeting a dj? the only one i hold (and proud) to my name is with Armin. The second time i saw him back in september, he was signing vinyls and fliers for people at the end. i was a little faded
and i kept telling him how beautiful he was. he looked right at me and said "you're beautiful." i was like, in heaven at that moment...but it gets better. the next time i saw him, in november, he def recognized me when he came out. he smiled, and seemed to appreciate beema and my other friends shirts: "we love avb." so whatever, he began his set and then i asked him if me and my friend could go up there- and he said yes. we got up behind the dj booth for a little bit, but he was obviously too busy to talk or anything. so we go back down, and at the end, pete moutso pulls us up and asks "so you want to meet armin?" like, literally out of the crowd. so we end up dancing in the dj booth for awhile (where ian, redeye also was) and it was soooo tight. armin kept giving us hugs and dancing with us, and by the end of the night he felt like a friend. when i asked him to sign my flier, he signed it "to erin, thanks for sexy support...love armin"!!!! my friend liz was like "ooooh" and he was like "well, i am a man".
that he is....hehe...you're gonna hear me brag about this story till the end of time. not to be obnoxious, it was just truly a great moment.
My best encounter was when I met Armin at Glow last September.
I got him to sign one of my vinyls for my friends who was ill at the time and couldnt make it to the show. He thought it was really nice of me and chatted a bit with me
he's super down-to-earth, love that guy!
this is seconded only by one of the other times I met Armin, last november, and I asked him to take a pic with me after he was done spinning and he goes "Of course I'll take a picture with you, you're the main man!"
and thus, my sig was born, hehehe
haha..im a massive DJ whore
WHORE like you dont even know.
my 'best' experience has to be with armin as well. I hooked up with him the morning after a gig here, and he signed my tables. I almost got to drive him and erica to the airport cuz the promoter was late getting there. So instead I carried his record case to the car.
but ive met
Tiesto
Ferry
armin
Mauro(my best friend was Mauros Chauffeur)
steve lawler
gary D
BK
nick sentience
anne savage
tall paul(yet no signature from him)
hybrid
etc
out of my few mini encounters, 2 stand out...
the favourite one was w/ Orkidea:
so its just after he finishes his set here in TO @ Viva and gets off, i run up to him and ask him "remember the fool who was shaking ur hand during the set" to which he goes "ya ya..it was you??", i nod my head and we both laughed a bit..
two days later, thanks to swamper and Ithikia, he is scheduled to spin last minute @ a tiny restaurant/bar for a private party to which me and our usual TO TAs attended and we were all patiently waiting for him when i found it rather late to be out during a weekday and so i stand outside the bar waiting for the streetcar (tram). A chrysler 300M pulls up and out of the car comes a dude in a hoodie. I shout out "Orkidea". He goes "Ya?". so i say " u remember me???handshaker from viva with the three squares on my shirt??", he goes "ya ya..of course i remember u...whats ur name", i tell him my name, he calls me in, i end up staying another 45 minutes and then go home
MOST IRRITATING MOMENT WITH A DJ:
after Marco V spun @ viva (again) he came off to the side where we were all getting autographs and taking pics when i show him the TA logo on the sleeve of my shirt and try to explain that we want to take a TA grop pic.
HE ENDED UP SIGNING MY SLEEVE WITH UNWASHABLE MARKER.
now thanks to him, 6 months &78 washes later, its still there on my sleeve

first time meetigna a dj was tiesto. he spun a set at tower records downtown TO before wintergalactic 2001. i got him to sign an autograph for me after he spun, we chatted for a minute and took a pic as well, it was neat.
later that year i was at state01, orkidea was in the dj booth maybe 40 minutes or half an hour before his set. it was my birthday that night. so i went up and asked him to take a picture with me, he hopped out onto the floor with my friend and i. we talked for a bit and we both got our pictures taken with him. really nice guy.
First DJ I ever saw was Timo Maas (Back when he wasn't shit) in 2000 @ Tonic in Toronto
he signed my t-shirt, i forgot i had paper on me.
I was so nervous when i was in teh VIP area @ State '01 (Armin's first time to canada) that the only thing i could say to him was "Armin, you're cool man!"
Met Oakenfold @ Connected in 2000 and somehow weaseled my way backstage, smoked a joint with a promoter named Dave Seaman (from toronto) and got to talk to Oakey after his set, and all i could come up with was "what do you think of all your music being available on the internet?"
his reply "I think it's dirty
I've been lucky and have gotten every DJ's autograph on a sheet of paper that says TUNE, and on the back it's signed by picotto, tiesto, armin, timo, PVD, max graham, ferry and Oakenfold. not bad eh?
my best experiance was when i got to be back stage at a party and i got to have a beer with dj dan

). He seems like a cool guy, especially at the end of his set, the encore just killed me. He finished his set and everyone was going crazy and wanted more,so he comes back up on the stage where the DJ booth was and sticks up his index finger, signalling "One more?". Everyone is cheering. Then he sticks up 2 fingers; "Two more??". Even louder cheers. Then to 3...then 4, then 5...and finally 10. The cheers weren't loud enough on 10, so he went back to 5...everyone booed, so he smiled, showed 10 fingers...and dropped his first of ten. I remember he dropped Moments Are Forever during that encore...destroyed me at that moment
I met BT after one of his gigs at this realy shitty place in west palm beach...was one of his earlier dj sets soooo he wasnt up to par...but had some fucking awesome tracks...and when he dropped dreaming it was just magic....anyway i stayed after got to shake his hand and trade a few words with him bout his music and his djing....I wont forget he was wearing some crazy UFO's with streamers.
Definately Armin ! I shook his hands four times the night he performed here in Syd !
hmm....i met tall paul...steve lee...spent a whole day with him....had lunch with andy manston..n met nick bridges

theres a few...shook hands with Max Graham, shit he deserved that, and i thank him for taking the time. most other meet ups have been thanks to my enibriated friend Dave. hes harassed Max so many times he pissed him off at Vinyl in Denver, hopefully it doesnt scare him away.
funniest was prolly when Dave was at The Church in Denver CO - right after they had lifted the booth off the dancefloor. he scaled this ghetto as shit ladder all wasted and started yellin: 'hey Sander!! HEY Sander!! only to be ignored for a bit. but sure enough sander kleinenberg was cool enough to shake his hand and ask for a song request. Daves cool, but all he could scream was: 'Play something YOU wrote! one of YOUR tracks!' all sander had to say was: 'Ill do it man!' and fucking sure as shit, about 7 tracks later he had worked in My Lexicon. it was poss one of the greatest clubbin moments ever for Dave and I...since that was the first truly genius trance track ive heard. ahhh...memories|
where da fuct ya been bizno ? long time no see dawg
I went backstage when Talla 2XLC was spinning at Viva (cause I won a contest on TA!) shook his hand, got a nice autograph on technoclub v.17, and had a pic taken.
that's me on the right side of the pic
i was hanging out at a legendary chicago record store (gramaphone), and I see derrick carter, so i grab a mini flyer of him, and have him sign it.
I met Sander Kleinenberg twice last year after his two amazing dancefloor destroying sets. Tho his march set was the best but I met him walking around the guvernment in august before a set and he was doing what he does best...chain smoke and walk around. So I brought my nubreed 4 and asked him to sign it....he said sure. He asked me what i thought of it...such a nice guy...he likes to hear honest opinions. I said the first cd...first part was shit and he laughed..he said he took some heat for it. I said after that.....it was amazing....especially art of noise...yebo....he starts humming yebo yebo yebo.....rofl. He said he would come out with a new gu....which was true...Danny Howells and Him coming out with nubreed 24.7 in june.

i've seen it...tho he sweats like sander kleinenberg...a sponge.
I forgot BT
I recently saw him (oct) and after the show, he tossed godspeed into the crowd..I didnt get it, but talked to him afterwards, about how sorry I was to hear about the studio break in earlier in the year bla bla bla..now im sure he was fucked on a pill, cuz he had quite a gurn going on, but he stopped signing autographs, gave me a hug and said
thanks man, everybodys forgotten about that.
then he signed my copy of dreaming.
When Dumonde came down to the front at Global Gathering last year to talk to the UKTA's....
Matt Hardwick signing my Sheffield Wednesday shirt
chatting to Pascal from signum for about 20 mins, and signing my Second Wave vinyl
Scot Project signing Overdrive, and giving me stickers
Pascal also played my copy of second wave, and my copy of tiesto - suburban train (I'd taken it for my friend who was also DJing)
