I had thought of joining the army quite a few times, but I'm shit at dealing with authority, but I know for certain I would make an excellent soldier in a battle situation, other reasons apart from dealing authority, I could never truthfally pledge that I would give my life for scum like the royal family, another thing was what would I do if I joined the army and had to do a tour of Northern Ireland? I could never do stuff like that.

If war did break out on a bigger scale i.e world war style, and everything went downhill, I probably would join the army, ah hell I might come back in body bag, but at least at the end of the day I would of done something different to the usual shit, and who knows it might let out a lot of my aggression, or on the otherhand fuck with my head.

but best of luck pal in whatever you choose.

Personally, sorry if this isnt what you want to hear but this is my view. the gunners section will contain alot of donkey work training, and the end result will be someone who sits in the same position for weeks on end on standy, not my idea of fun.

Your main responsibilities will be to watch for and track enemy aircraft. But you'll also operate the missile system, and defend it in case of attack.

The Rapier thing looks fun, and the sims are prolly a right laff, but all you're going to do for the first x years is bury urself into the 1001 pages of missle launching and learn absolutly everything from the company which makes the sticker to the agency guy who pressed print for the box it came in, when in reality you'll use about 1/10th of the information! Plus if u did the distance, you'll spend most your days in a communications center with alot of fat geeky guys not doing alot but getting paid alot. fun for 6 months but im sure it'd become tiring.

Thats just my 2 cents.

Never thought about joining the arm'd forces, it would mean no more drugs

the idea of joining the army has positive points in that you would get a free camoflage outfit to wear to crasher on March 1st. However on the negative side you might die.

LOL, well there is the best argument i have seen

Well like calla i couldnt deal with the authority, would be too much for me, i talk back way too much.

And i dont think im hard enough to put up with the training tbh, im to lazy and would not have the self motivation to do it....

Gunners a great trade, especially if you like being outdoors. But you do have to have a modicum of fitness as apart from pilot its the most physically intense job in the RAF. The money aint bad considering that 97% of the time the RAF sits on its arse twiddling its thumbs + you probably wont die if you go to war because RAF Regiment is concerned with defending airfields & aircraft rather than going out & looking for trouble like the Navy & Army.
However as long as youve got 3 GCSE's at C or above I'd recommend you went for a technician trade, the moneys really good, you get trained for about 2 years, plus you have something to do when you leave the RAF (what would you do when you left as a gunner.. Doorman? Security Guard?). If your seriously thinking about the RAF id advise you think about your commitments were you are now? e.g. Girlfriend, Family etc. & if you can bear to be without them for months at a time? I say that because I got through all the selection & then bottled it the day I was meant to start basic training! decided to go back to college & stay with my girlf ill get there one day though!
RAF's a great career choice mate, nothing offers the travel, sports, & money like it. If you want any advice on the trades, training, selection procedures etc. just pm me & ill help out as much as i can.

Worm Popper

was infantry 4 2 years. to b honest mate, all i can say about the army is that 90% of the time it's goddam fucking boring. still, i'd rather go back than be unemployed or anything, gives u something to do... just b prepared to swallow a lot of shit from a load of little napoleons.
if u are low on qualifications, make sure u choose something that will help towards your formation in case u decide to change career later on. a mate got a really good job at BT after havning been in signals.

hope u make the right decision!

ps: giving up drugs for the forces?? u must be having a laugh... it's where i started!!!!!!!! best moment: making bongs out of holes in the snow. the smoothest smoke ever.

Once your in the Raf you probably have to do a minimum of a 5 or 9 year contract, and they tend to be sluts to get out of if you decide its not for after a year. but if your a few weeks into your basic training then its not much of an issue to leave. During the selection process your not obliged to be in the raf for any amount of time until you turn up on day 1 for training, so you can quit the day your supposed to start as long as you let them know you wont be there.
