Mauro picotto(Good bad or just plain ugly)

Whats everone elses view of mixmaster genius Mauro Picotto. Personally I love the guy, but it seems here in Britain he is getting a lot of stick off of people who used to follow him trance wise and those fans of techno who don't want him playing "their" music.

It seems to be a brittish thing to try and always pull people down that have made it to the top and personally it sickens me. All these so called music fans waiting to pounce the moment he plays a bad set.

I read a post in the promise forum (a nitclub in newcastle) and some guy says that everytime he has been to see him this year (6 or so) he has been shite. So why go and keep on seeing him. If fannys like this stayed away from picotto events it would suit me fine, cos i'm sure there are many others who would make a much better nite of it, instead of pointing out all the little errors the great man makes ("GOD DID U SEE THE WAY HE'S LIFTING HIS RECORD BOX, IT'S ALL WRONG").

By the way I say a british thing, it doesn't happen so much with picotto followers in scotland (just visit i/o when he's on). It seems that a lot of english people have turned against him tho'.

For me Mauro is the best DJ on earth.

His style is my style

Also,I heard lots of livesets from the lizardman dating from '00 till now.And..never heard any big mistake.
His mixingskills are exellent,I know this cuz I DJ myself and play lots of tracks Mauro play's and some of them are a pain in the ass to beatmatch

Also, the UK is getting one of the worst dance-scenes there is cuz trance DJs MUST play trance, and techno DJs CAN ONLY play techno,if a DJ sometimes plays an other style most ppl there think the DJ sucks..

BTW...Picotto = god

Posted by Ferrari_7 on Feb-19-2003 16:18:

Loved some of his productions (eg Lizard, Pegasus) but i really hate his sets -pure noise 4 me. Respect to the guy anyway!

Posted by RTP on Feb-19-2003 16:27:

Hm ... in the very past (before I registered here) I was one of those idiots that knew only the commercial tracks from him and thought he'd spin trance...

As I saw him on the decks it was a pure techno set, but that didn't piss me off ... that was rather the beginning of my interest in him because I wanted to know the way he really is and not the way his commercial tracks are.
Well ... Picotto used to be one of my favourite DJs and he still is, but I think his earlier stuff was a bit better than it is now. Comparing his "newer" livesets (f.e. Mysteryland) to the "older" ones (Dance Department(2000)), I think the older ones are a bit more "spicy" (I mean there's not so much noise in it, there's more beat). Till now I haven't heard a real bad liveset from him (okay, i don't know so many, but it's true) ... even his Gatecrasher set, of which many ppl said that it's bad, is pretty okay.

So ... for me Mauro Picotto is still a great DJ although he was a bit better in the past, but we'll see how he will develop

I think Picotto is awesome! He is great both as a producer and a dj
and he`s whitout a doubt one of the best in the techno scene. I hope to see him preform live in the future.

Yip your right. it's definately a british thing this. not only happening to mauro, but judge jules has had a lot of critics of late cos he's playing some techno stuff.

It doesn't look good for the future of british clubbing.

All I know is that this man ripped off armin van buuren and umek so for that he has lost all my respect, not that he cares anyway

Posted by TurnMillz on Feb-19-2003 17:21:

He is a great producer, imo. Some of his sets are great to, but it is the music he makes that i really enjoy. All respect to this man

I agree with P'zazz

hes a rip off merrchant, hes a shite dj, plays fake techno, very poorly.

His productions are wank and cheap, he rips off people and is generally a 'cock end'

intelligent reply

before anyone mentions this, I am not against techno, as Umek & Adam Beyer are amongst my fav DJs.

What I am against is DJs playing techno is a 'trance' way and mixing it very badly, eg, Picotto

For a start like this like that was miles better than avb's poor attempt at a tune no matter if it's a rip off or not.

And have you ever met the guy to say he's a cock end. don't think you have mate. Typical brittish attitude. What p'zazz says hold truth and I value his opinion but you calling the guy a cock end is out of order. I know a lot of people who have met him and have nothing but good things to say about him.

If he plays fake techno why are his sets so similar to sven vath, a world renound techno dj. hmmmmmm. you know what your talking about.
It looks to me like your just bitter about one mistake he made (avb rip-off).

Posted by George Kendall on Feb-19-2003 18:17:

lol considering 'Blue Fear' is still one of the biggest and world renouned dance tracks ever then u standing up for picotto is pointless.

For me when seeing a techno DJ it has to be interesting, not playing a repetitive track for 7 minutes ffs.

People like Umek and Ben Sims for example are great, their style is amazing and not boring in the slightest.

Being a nice guy doesn't make you a good dj/producer.

His sets are really pretty poor, I expect more from a 'big dj'.

His mixing is a joke to be honest and his tune selection is a laugh.

For your information Vath is shite nowadays too.

people like you annoy me. You don't like the style he's spinning just now fair enuff. I do. But there is fuck all wrong with his mixing etc. hence the reason he's getting paid 5 grand for 3 hours work and your not. Sven vath is not rubbish. he is still a great dj and producer so don't be silly.

Don't try to tell other people what they like. Sven vath is shite, your view not mine.

Don't tell me, do you go out clubbing wearing a green anorak, with a notepad and pencil, stand in a corner inspecting every move the dj makes.

Picotto is not a bad producer, he can mix, he's anything but boring, and like this like that is still better than blue fear.

Posted by P`zazz on Feb-19-2003 18:36:

I respect what you guys are saing but:

he ripped off blue fear to make like this like that

he ripped off gatex to make dark room

also the vocals from komodo are taken from a deep forest track

how low can someone go, I know an fraction of his tracks and 2 are major ripoffs, who knows about his other tracks? he lost in court once, isn't he affraid this might happen again with umek now? anyhow may trance show him the light lol

Fair enuff point about blue fear, but fuck off on the umek/dark room thing. You must be tone deaf or something cos' it is by no means a rip off of gatex. They sound the slightest bit similar, but how you can say it's a rip off of it boggles my mind.

Tracks like pulsar, baguette, transponder, back to cali(picotto mix), iguana, lizard........ I could go on. These are all brilliant productions so don't talk shite about him being a rip off merchant. He is one of the most respected dj's/producers in the world, you don't get that status by ripping off your piers now do you?

Posted by P`zazz on Feb-19-2003 18:57:

ok he has some very good productions I agree

but dark room and gatex sound practicaly the same track to me

Just out a matter of interest, have you heard The original of LTLT?? Or any of the other eight mixes that dont have that daft rift in it?? That was one mix that label bosses picked out the front the tune. Who gives a fuck about the chart mix. Listen to any of the other mixes and they are gritty hard as fuk techy and every one of them rock!

As for this Darkroom tune, it doesnt exist. Plain and simple. People keep going on about a tune called Dark room. Well I hate to piss on your fire but it doesnt exist.

Picotto has been an influencial producer since Dance music started and has been described as the most important producer in trance at one point. You can all sit and slag him for what ever you want but at the end of the day hes the one whos riding hi at the top, the techno industry loves him and so do most of the artists for the amount of business hes put their way. Picotto is and will always be one of the top in his generation of DJ/Producers.

BTW, you can catch picotto plying with some of his friends playing KEVIN SAUNDERSON, MARCO CAROLLA, AGORIA, PHIL KIERAN at the magenite events coming to a city near you soon!(MY GOD IS THAT "REAL" TECHNO DJs HES LAYING WITH?? HOW DARE HE!

so you mean to say that dark room is a hoax? cause I downloaded a full version off the hub so I thought it was real

also about the LTLT issue, I heared the tracks a long time ago and I don't even remember them anymore, all I remember is that he was taken to court and he lost

anyhow I never said he wasn't a good dj or person etc, I just said I didn't respect him cause of the above issues

taken to court?? hmmm

There is no such tune as dark room..

Posted by Taub on Feb-19-2003 21:33:

Picotto is not liked by many in the techno scene including by other djs. Havent herd of one techno dj palying his productions. None of them give him respect, because he just switched form cheese trance into techno and try to be like the leader of techno.

But i give him much respect for the way he markets himself and got popular. He showed me the world of techno and for that i have respect for him.

Dj wise he isnt the best, production wise he isnt the best
