What do you all do/What do you want to do?
Ok I know this is not really a political question but since everyone in the political forum is particularly intelligent, I'm halfway curious to see what you all do and what aspirations you have. Also I apologize if this was posted before ... the search function isn't working for me right now.
I'll start things off ... right now I'm a software analyst at a small company in Philadelphia. In the next year or two I hope to move back to DC and become a consultant for a big 10 consulting company. However, what I really want to do in 30 or 40 years is to enter the field of astrophysics. I've had a passion for history and astronomy since high school but I opted for business durign college to support an obsession with trance and beer.
I'm a computer programmer, i mostly make webpages that interact with databases using ASP and SQL Server. Right now, i'm building an application that moves massive amounts of data between databases. I live about 5 hours away from the ocean on the west coast of Canada.
as for what i want to do, i'm still not sure yet i guess, and that's half the fun! I'm going to marry my soulmate in 225 days and then, the world is our oyster! for now, i just got off my tables, i love spinning trance and do it as much as i can. it would be my dream to play a party, not a big one, just a GOOD one, with all my friends.
I also enjoy snowboarding, i'm hopefully heading over to whistler next week for some powder!
in the future, i hope to have a job on the cutting edge of computing, making a ridiculous amount of money, but not having to work TOO hard or have too much stress. unfortunately, right now, i'm making a ridiculously SMALL amount of money, and way too much stress, but hopefully that will be remedied soon!
I feel like we're back in elementry... Cyrus, this must be very familiar to you!!
Interesting thread occrider...
Where to begin... Well right now Im taking a year off university, going back in Sept for second year law and society.
Last year I did a year abroad studying at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Planning on getting into real estate and tax law after second year.
At the moment Im in real estate school on the verge of completing licensing courses and getting my licence to sell properties. I also DJ for a TV show (on the channels Showcase in Canada and Showtime in the US) called 'Queer as Folk'.
I want to be a superstar DJ (but who doesn't), and wish I could one day fill the spot of Israeli ambassador to the US or UN (if theyre still around).
Also love snowboarding... I usually go every Sunday, but this week Im spoiling myself and going for a few days.
I aspire to have an empire under my feet with all my friends and family at the executive level. My own club in South Beach that will set the standard for all trance clubs throughout the world bringing in TOP notch DJ's on a weekly basis!
I want to have my own business (in the works now), and own a convertible 330ci within a year (obsessed with that car)!
I'm young... have a life filled with dreams to be unveiled.
As Martin Lawrence so nicely put it; "ride it till the wheels fall off!!!"
I.Y.
currently just working basic labourering jobs and shit until the army takes in its next lot of recruits for rifleman...
i've been waiting 2 years, 1 year was caused by circumstances out of my hands, this 2nd (since july last year) is the army's fault (they haven't taken any new recruits in for rifleman).
i try not to plan my life too far ahead, because so far nothing has gone the way i wanted it to go.
John Lennon: "Life is what happens to you when you're making other plans."
I'm currently studying Computer Science.
My long-term aspiration is to work on the development of algorithms that can perfectly simulate the behavior of living organisms - in essence, to demonstrate that living organisms are nothing more than sophisticated computers made of biological components.
Immediately after I graduate, I'll probably work for a game developer, such as Blizzard Entertainment, because I have a fair number of contacts in the industry from my days as a professional player.
I would also like to write philosophy on the side, if I have sufficient time.
I'm not sure if I cant count myself in the pool of the "particularly intelligent" but I'm a regular poster here, so that's enuff of legitimation
Unfortunately Austria's university system differs a lot from the American one, which ersonally interests me more. The main reason is the limitation of subjects, the other is the huge size of public universities and the consequences like anarchy, total anonimity and indifference.
i simply don't wanna go to some Uni here, chose Law, biology or History and that's it, it probably determines the rest of your life, too.(in austria its not like in the states where u can study medicine and then become a wall stareet tycoon or movie producer). I want more than one thing, at least right now. Therefore I'll try to get to Vienna where I can at least chill and watch lectures of philo. and history, in addition to my "major" Law (which in reality is THE subject I study).
I also tried and applied for amer. colleges but since my parents argued that an "average american uni is by far worse than your average European one" (well, not too wrong) they just "let" me apply for super ivy league ones.
So unless there's some big miracle in early April I'm off to Vienna
Was still a fun experience, since hardly any, well maybe 3 each year( them also being diplomat sons or something), Austrians go through this procedure of amer. college application.
I'm going to University of Zagreb, or to be more precise, Faculty of Electrical Engeneering and Computing. I'm second year now, and specializing in automation. Other than that, I'm interested in all areas of science and technology, mainly astronomy&space, biology, and nuclear physics. I hope I'll end up in the robotic industry, get my mr.sc. and dr.sc. (ph.d) status, and I wish I'll one day work for any of the space agencies regarding the design of planetary and lunar vehicles.
well in may of next year i will have hoped to graduate with a bacholer's degree in Computer Engineering (electrical engineering track) and a minor in Mathematics (im finishing up the last course i need for that this semester). what i do next is a huge question. i may go into the industry, where i would love to work on digital cirtuit design and the logics behind it. maybe IBM or something like that. however, right now me and my brother have finished writing a business proposal and are out scouring about to find a $150K or more loan in order to open up a bar/lounge/cafe in college station, texas. after that we have some ideas to really make us rich (ill keep them to myself for now). i'd love to retire early (30'ish) have a wife, two or three kids and two or three cats, and then sit in my castle or villa and ponder over the big philosophical questions of life and DJ at any party around, hopefully attended by my best friends
Currently studying in London for a combined degree in History/History of Art/Archaeology. After that I would like to join the Peace Corps/VSO and do that for a couple of years, then maybe go to graduate school for a bit, and when thatz all said and done, probably settle down somewhere and teach.
I am in my fourth year studying filmmaking and theory. I am currently unemployed becuase i want to concentrate on getting better grades this year. As for hobbies... i am soon to edit my documentary on Ibiza and will screen it for the public in the spring.
After graduation i plan on getting my production company started with the money i will make working for my dad as a real estate agent.
HEy melek-mike.. we have something in common... im getting my liscence too! Maybe were related!

Beleive it or not melech-mike... my test for phase 1 is tomorrow
I dont know how i will do.
After school..... i will finish Phase 2 and 3
Then it time to make some hard cash!
Phase 1 exam is the easiest of the three.
Just make sure you know all the activities... the exam is 50 multiple choice questions. Also know your math; it shouldn't be too hard because you also get to bring in your books. I hope for your own sake that you took notes inside the encyclopaedia... they help!
Dont worry about those stupid graphs in the assignment... just know the multiple choice questions well and youll get over 75%.
Guess Im just really psyched for a fuckin sick weekend, but good luck on the exam tomorrow.
If youre taking it at Don Mills and York mills, please tell Sima (the exam bitch) to lick my nuts!
I heard there wasnt much math in it.... alot of regulations shit...
As for the books.. can you bring all three?
there are 5 different possible phase one exams... mine had a lot of math.
cant bring in all your books just the povincial reference, and the encyclopaedia.
This feels too weird... being all nice and shit.
i'm getting this tingling running throughout my buddy... wanna go on a blind date sometime... you bring the condems, i'll bring the weapons!!
haha, sorry, just had to add some shit in here... there is this whole drama of us that all the TA's cant get enough of... we gotta keep the ratings up!!!
thanks for the advice DICK HEAD!!!!!!!
jk
I'm a double major in psychology and economics at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2nd year). The short term plan is to go to grad school for economics, as I'm no longer feeling my previous choice of law school and probably get my PhD in that (or at least get masters degrees in Psych and Econ).
As for career choices I will probably end up one of those ivory tower eggheads and perhaps a university professor.
The DREAM however is to do what I normally do on this forum for a living, talk politics. That's right I want to be a pundit and get paid for having opinions. And not just any pundit, but an uberpundit (see Chris Matthews, et al.) I'd also love to dabble in some sports writing, generall punditry as well.
Personally I don't see myself getting married too soon but when the time comes the goal is to get a intelligent, tough-minded (but not thickheaded) and affectionate mate to be the mother of however many kids I have.
I am a research assistant for the Queensland Government.
